Barely watched F1 since the V6 then halo I completely stopped. I've watched this video prolly 30 times tho. Gotta save the planet from climate change by making 20 race cars less pollutant and fuel saving, I guess to trickle down into road cars (lol never) when Tesla already makes a 300mile electric car for the masses. Wonder why the climate changed on the cavemen like 3 times they must have not regulated their camp fires enough. And the halo uhh theres still motoGP/motorcycle racing and those guys make a fraction of the money and fame being fully exposed to crashes.

Doesn't matter if it's slower. That sound is the essence of F1. They destroyed it. But on top of romanticism: keep in mind that car was made for wider, grooved tires and it has no DRS. Also it's demo laps, they didn't work on setups, you can see the car was so nervous on kerbs and Alonso had to do a lot of corrections, he had plenty of oversteer - whereas on the previous day run he had understeer with another front wing setup. Don't judge the engine - this car would possibly be much closer to today's cars with those improvements.

@@billyashworth3944 It did a 1:42 while practicing. Probably minimal setup at all other than balancing the car. The cars did 1:35 today on qualifying, the slower cars where 2 secs a lap slower. So no, I believe should this car be given the attention it deserves, it wouldn't be "nowhere"

@@fokjohnpainkiller Ignoring that it would have to refuel (making for a stupidly long pitstop in today's terms), I believe it would still struggle. Look at Williams, Russell did a 1:38:045 so in the race they'll probably be doing lap times of around 1:46. They will most likely be lapped by the front of the grid. Fernando's car as you say did around a 1:42 with minimal setup (though Pirelli full slicks not grooved tires). In race trim with fuel that car could possibly do 1:46 like some of the backmarker cars. While it might be able to hang onto the back of the grid I'm very certain it would be nowhere near competitive

I read that renault suggested his lap was in the 1.39s. In the v10 era, the difference between a quali lap and the cars race laps was a fair bit smaller that todays hybrid cars. So I do believe that if hypothetically alonso races the 2005 renault against todays cars he would not be disgraced. Yes he will have to pit for fuel but being a smaller lighter car, his tyre wear will be less and his laptimes more consistent that what the current cars can do.

I am here to re comment, If you check closely he is doing the exact opposite. The car due to slicks has switched to oversteer and he battles before the apex to control the oversteer and then turns drastically. Now I can clearly see that he is doing the exact opposite of the 2005 driving style. Can you see that?

@Federal Bureau of Investigation It sounds WAY better actually being at the track. Of course it doesn't compare to the V10 but I can't wait til COTA again next year so I can go back. The TV doesn't do the V6s justice and the broadcast mixes the sound down so the loud goofy announcers are most of what u hear

F1 was about the sound as well as the speed, it gave us all goosebumps when we heard them, it's an emotion. The FIA are useless, they don't understand what F1 fans want, they only know how to bore the fans and turn them away

I thought Formula One was about watching the best drivers in the world compete in the pinnacle of motorsport engineering. Like it or not but the V6s are more powerful and fuel efficient, F1 is the leading sector of R&D for hybrid engines which will hopefully become the new standard for road cars. The sound improves the experience but you sometimes have to sacrifice sound for progress. Also it’s ironic you say that the FIA doesn’t know what fans want when they’re literally making massive aero rule changes to improve the quality of racing for the fans and are at this moment considering engine changes in 2026. F1 is about innovation and the thrill of the sport, F1 could race with engines that sound like dirt bikes and I’d still enjoy the sport...because my love for F1 isn’t based entirely around the sound.
