F1 cars are only 20cm wider now. In fact, the current f1 cars are some of the thinnest cars ever. F1 cars were 2.15m wide in the early 90s. Currently they are 2m.

This is the R25 with a 3.0L V10 from 2005, not to be confused with the R26 with a 2.4L V8 from 2006.

Heard my first F1 sounds on vinal, way back in 70 s.Saw in SA Kyalami, '76 Lauda vs Hunt. Saw Senna, Mansell, Piquet,Prost in their prime.Your ears could barely stand the sound. ThenVilleneve andHiil as well as Piquet testing.

2019 F1 cars dwarf this era of cars as well which contributes not only to weight, but how fast it looks going around corners, etc. I'm not sure that a smaller car with a V10 is less efficient than a car nearly twice the size, significantly smaller engine, and a battery pack.

Yeah... I noted. In one of the camera takes of a curve apex it was possible to see the car "exploding" ahead such brutal is the torque!!!

@@marcioferraz5282 not to be the boring one but these engines had very little torque, way less than you would think. I think they only had somewhere around 350nm and simply relied on horsepower and the revs to be as fast as they were. Today’s F1 have MUCH more torque, leagues more. but can’t rev as high.

Both that and the 2006 has a superior rear end suspension made in collab with michelin at that time. alonso adapted a rather bizarre steering at that time which you can see him aggressively steering the wheel. Man even with pirellis his aggressive steering habits never died

The car had a hugh understeering as fas as I remember. It was the only way to drive the car fast, great driving from Alonso. But it is hard work for the tires, today's tires wouldn't be able to handle that for long.

@@koyomiee1446 they have faster laptimes, but look slower because they are too big and heavy. look how nimble this renault here is to drive. it's because it weighs only 600kg and not 746kg like the current cars. anyone who has driven different sorts of karts knows that lighter vehicles are more challenging and more fun. many f1 drivers already complained that the current cars feel too lazy and are too easy to drive.

Currently, Max, Lewis and George are the fastest qualifiers on the grid. I respect what you're saying, but your argument can only be proven next year.

Love the guys plugging their ears on the main straight. Haven’t seen that necessity in awhile. I was in Phoenix for 1989 and 1990 (or 90 and 91 lol). The sound of those cars was brutal. Absolutely needed earplugs. You could hear the cars practicing from streets that were 6 miles from downtown. You could hear a very particular sound when they would shift gears, almost like a “punch” in the air. Tall buildings definitely had a repeater effect..but still, so loud. I can’t even imagine those V10’s.

They are a lot lighter and a lot more agile. Cars nowadays are fast but that is the only thing going for them. They are big, heavy and terrible for racing. I hope something changes.

@@rumbling3991 not the best idea but if you want that to happen theres a thing called “BOSS GP” where they take classic F1 cars most notable is the Toro Rosso STR1 and race them on the tracks, but since these are championship winning cars and if they crash it’s not worth it for sure

@@edgargoncas7 1,5 seconds off the pace from slowest williams/haas is not really impressive though. But the sound is. Too bad n/a f1 are massively inefficient and gas guzzling (in terms of fuel used) compared to today engines.

As much as I respect and admire the current Hybrid V6 engines from a technological perspective... Give me the naturally aspirated V10 engines and lighter/smaller cars any day of the week, man! The high pitched wailing of those V10s is THE sound of F1 and always will be to me. Going to Silverstone as a kid during that era, it just sticks in your mind I'm telling you! 😂
