I got mine as a tiny 2 leaf seedling over the mail at the end of November (8.5 months ago). This tiny plant has given me so much joy. Innitialy he grew a new leaf every month. It stayed as a 3/4 leaf little plant during winter. Each new leaf was approx. 30% larger than its predecessor. @Planterina mentioned in one of her videos that some plants i.e: Monstera and Snake plants grow a lot when she put them outdoors during the summer. I decided to let him out on my east-facing miniscule garden patch, as he really seems to enjoy the light. The leaves did become a bit yellowish around the edges from the shock, but in just 2 months of living outdoors, it has become a 7 leaf plant, it gives me a new leaf every 2 weeks, the last leaf is the size of my hand and the plant has given me 2 pups. The pups do need dappled sunlight, so I have moved them inside by the eastern window sill, while all new growth on papa is verdant green. I live in Zone 7 climate. It can be quite humid here. This guy seems to enjoy a lot of light and humidity. I use a moisture meter and highly recommend you use one. I water it approx. twice a week and keep him in a well drained plastic pot with aeroid mix. In terms of temperature: I like the cold. I only turn the heater enough to keep my plants from dying. During winter my house is at 15C/ 60F. That temperature seems to keep them fine. All my indoor plants are tropical. They all seem to care much more about light and humidity than about temperature. I use a humidifier during winter. I suspect they will experience shock when they come back inside toward the end of autumn. But I'm so thrilled with the result from their summer vacation, I intend to do it again next year.

I just came across this stingray beauty yesterday at my local HD. It was being unloaded when I was there! I’ve never seen one before in the 12 years I’ve collected plants. Didn’t even know the name and had to look it up. And I looked up how to care for SA and came across your page. I’m in a suburb outside of Austin, TX. Thank you for the information. I’m more confident that I can care for this one after learning from you!

omg thank you for your video, it was an eye opener, I recently saw some of my plants getting very yellow, a sort of very fine spotty yellow and I thought it was lack of nutrients, the builders have been doing renovations and I slacked on feeding this year, until one day one of my calatheas was crawling with some minute needle like black insects, I instantly started spraying all my plants with an overdose of insecticide - all 400 of them. Today I was looking at how to overwinter alocasias as they are looking a tad yellow, and I found your video, I googled trips, and suddenly everything was explained... I didn't know what they were, I never had them, and with the builders having my doors open all day I'm thinking they came in windblown, not that difficult as I live on the ground floor and my living room has large sliding doors.... so, now I am going to try some of your advice with the lighting and hopefully I can bring this gorgeous baby back to its former glory. although, do you think I could let it go dry and let it go dormant for the winter? anyone with an answer to that would be very appreciated. specific for stingray alocasia if possible. thx all

Okay I stopped it at 1:04 because I recently bought an alocasia at "Canadian Tire" and it was so filled with them after 3 unsuccessful attempts I threw it away because I was afraid for other plants. Although you might pay a bit more you don't usually find this problem in a small local plant store simply because they care about their plants

I potted it in a home made pon substrate and it grew again better than when I purchased it as it just lost leaf after leaf and croaked. I just got one pot with two plants on it at Walmart here in Calgary, Alberta for like C$27 two weeks ago. Each plant is about 3 feet tall. Never heard of it before I bought it and was shocked to read they grow 15ft tall x 8ft wide! Still in love with it though. No thrip damage that I can see but the drooping has begun and the outer leaves have turned yellow. I just staked each to stop it leaning sideways towards the window. So thank you for the tip on providing light from above. I will closely monitor the watering too. Maybe place it on a self-watering pot? Apparently there's a variegated version. I'm keeping my eyes open for that!

Then I went to Rona looking for Christmas stuff and nearly keeled over when I saw the shelf full of them this week. Needless to say, I got one because I wasn’t sure when I’d ever see one again. We do not get exciting plants here often in our box stores/ grocery stores, a lot of the basic staple house plants. Most will go to Edmonton or even Calgary to get variety in their collection.

You might have to get off of Amazon but Captain Jack's Dead Bug Brew works so well on thrips! Spidermites too, wipes them both out pretty much in the first treatment. @@SkyofDread I have found humidity not to be a problem for my Dragon Scale. It sits in a room somewhere between 50/60 humidity. Even lower over the winter months, I have central heating! The yellow leaves is either over or under watering, I hate that term BTW so annoying! Mine also had this on the older leaves and everything coming new is ok. I really think it can depend on the actual plant itself. One might do well while the other suffers under the same conditions. Good luck they are most amazing when they get BIG.

I just got one at a plant nursery last week. It was planted in a very dense and wet soil, even though I know and seller confirmed to me it needs a chunky well draining soil. I was told not to repot for 2 weeks to let it acclimate. In 2 days it started yellowing. After a couple more days and more yellowing leaves I went to trim some away, considering reporting anyway, and most of the leaves just fell away and were rotted inside the stems at the root/tuber. Why do nurseries grow them in a soil they don't belong in? I ha e one green leaf left that seems stable and I'm hopeful it will find its way back. Any idea why nurseries do this? If this is how a plant comes, shouldn't it be repotted right away to give it a better chance in the right growing medium? Thx!
