Hey fern, about the anthuriums that aren't doing well, the nodes near the top of the stem need to be buried in the substrate so that the new roots forming at the top have something to grow into. That means you will have to use taller pots rather than short and wide ones. Another way to fix this is to pile a mound of sphagnum moss at the top of the pot to cover the nodes and aerial roots. But it is difficult to keep the moss moist. Another solution would be to chop the stem to shorten the plant so it can sit deeper in the pot. Bonus propagations as you do that. As the stem grows longer wirh each leaf, you should be adding substrate to cover the nodes. They should not be allowed to stick out of the soil too far before being repotted. Hope this helps. Love from Singapore!

Anthurium want to stay moist all the time my guess is the yellowing is simply the transition period from where it came from to now at your place.

Hi Fern, I’m fairly sure that fertiliser burn can damage roots, which might explain the loss of roots on the forgetii x fort Sherman. As long as the stem is healthy then she should bounce back! ☺️

They do great with dramatic upsize in pots. The 💯 result is they get huge. I've started trimming roots and putting in smaller pots now 😂 Good to see you Fern!

I love anthuriums, especially the ones that grow big leaves. I have only two, Anthurium - Wave of Love (hookerii) and Clarinervium. Sadly, my Wave of Love developed scales, so she has gone outside for rehabilitation. I've seen some that grow leaves over a metre (3 feet) long. I can only wish. I love how leaving the soil to dry out completely between waterings makes care so much easier. You have so many beautiful anthuriums. 💚

fertilzer can definitely burn the roots it happened to me a couple times i repotted some plants and added some slow release fertilizer and they seemingly rotted immediately which is not something i experience often but i thought it was some bacteria in the soil so later on i used the same fertilizer in all of my plants and slowly but surely all the plants i watered through went down hill some were able to recover on their own but a lot had their roots completely melted off so i had to chop and prop that’s when i finally realized it was the fertilizer itself causing the issue
@cynd-al4 сағат бұрын
been scared to fertilize since but i’ve seen a lot of experts don’t recommend fertilizing hardly ever as it’s easier for it to go bad than it is for it to actually have that good of results i’ve always hardly fertilized and nothing has ever suffered bc of it

Hoya villosa is my favourite hoya. I bought it with two longer branches and since I let it go on the trellis, it's been growing like crazy! I was a bit worried whether by putting the branches to the trellis I would harm her but she lets go leaf after leaf. I love it! I use anything that fits under the pot as a saucer, and I have most of my plants in small/medium pots and I HATE it when the saucer is three sizes larger. You can't find small ones anywhere.

If I remember it correctly all anthurium with the weird coloring where potted in sphagnum? Maybe they didn't like the low PH Value of the moss and struggled to get all nutrients in the right quantity because of it.

It's so confusing seeing you pot the plants in such big pots. It makes totally sense that as someone who tends to underwater and owns many plants to do this. I just know that I would've killed them already because having plants rootbound and potting them pretty tight is my way to go XD Btw I love it that you post so much and regularly. I'm writing my thesis by now and it's always a treat if I can watch your videos afterwards :D

Put the anthurium with a stuck leaf into a trash bag with some water in the bottom, I just throw a cup or so of liquid straight in the bag, then tie it up overnight. Wake up and check it out!

I can never make my anthuriums happy. I use a fairly chunky mix like I use for philos but it always develops yellow edges. I’m either overwatering or under watering and idk which I’m doing. Makes me so sad cuz I love how they look.
@wildfern6 сағат бұрын
some of them are just fussy honestly, and they hate being underwatered so maybe experiment with upping the watering? especially if they're in a chunky mix. good luck & thanks for watching <3
