Back when people could express themselves without fear of having their entire lives & careers ruined.

Was there a herd of cows from Switzerland in the studio at the time?

God it really was worth watching back then, not just somebody from the canteen or a minor celeb trying to flog a book who tells the host what they can and can't ask

The cowards homogenised the show when they stopped allowing audience participation. Pat Kenny started it, because he couldn't handle conflict, and Tubridy was terrible as well. Gaybo was the master

Ireland has just lost one of it's greatest , an absolute legend, REST IN PEACE GAY

I miss Ireland of the 90s . It was a far better country for all the right reasons .

The legend that is Gay Byrne. No one like him, no one can come close to him today he truly was a gifted interviewer and host. He was a national treasure.
@chrisward5280
Gay Byrne was NEVER a good interviewer at all, as he was never deep enough intellectually to probe his guests with sufficiently interesting questions. His go to ‘question’ was usually, “tell me about it!” If he was lucky enough to have clever guests then they carried the show for him. It truly beggars belief as to why he was paid well over half a million pounds/punts pa.

Wow, what a show it used to be. No room for frank and honest debate any more.
@ballymahonst
No one will ever cover Gaybo’s work and entertaining shows . He was a legacy , good or bad and with both views he introduced us all living at home in Ireland the most memorable debates .

I was not a huge fan of Gay in general, but he certainly was great on the LLS. Such a petty that honest debate and the ability to take a bit of direct confrontation is long gone. Some great debated there too. The lady a the end was superb

I'd like to have seen a year indicated at all times. And each clip was too short for most of us to have an idea of what was going on.

This was a great show back then over the years, its utter shite now and has been ever since Gaybo hung up his boots.
