The MC 12’s white and blue colors are a tribute to Camoradi, a traditional racing team who raced with Maserati cars back in the 50’ and 60’s and used this colors. BTW the MC12's design was heavily contested when it first came out and is clearly getting better over time, unlike the Enzo which nowadays looks out of proportion, especially the rear sideline. One last curiosity about the two cars is that the only body part they share is the windshield.

it's common the first gear to be very long on race-cars, probably the case for these cars as well, and clutches are not suitable for precise control you would need while drag racing, that would explain the results. The problems only happen until you select the 1st gear then you can fly

Would love to see these drag raced from a standstill. I’m guessing the owners were afraid of driving the cars like they were meant to be driven so they did a rolling drag instead

Actually, although I’m sure the cars could take a few hard launches from a standstill, they weren’t ever designed to. Also, if something breaks on them, where are you going to source the parts from? I knew this was going to be a boring race when I read the title. These are classic “few of a kind” cars at this point.

I'm pretty certain that I could beat most of those times with my hybrid F-150. It is pretty quick with the electric assist and 570 ft/lbs of torque, but those drivers were just slow

When I was 14 I was interested in drag racing. Even now, I occasionally check in on major national drag races to marvel at the engineering that goes into a single purpose I.e. straight line acceleration. I am surprised Peterson runs pieces like this, because it tells you so little about a car. The Tesla Plaid smokes just about every other production vehicle off the line, but is that the most important thing about a Tesla? A “funny car” might beat most street legal vehicles in the quarter mile, but that’s about exactly how far it can be driven. Perspective.

If I had a rare car collection the Maserati MC12 would be the first one I sold. It’s worth 3 Million because of low production count. In my opinion it’s an Ugly, over engineered, underpowered Kit Car that used an Enzo to power it. A 15 second quarter mile is slower than my neighbors Volvo.
