The greatest things about Doug are stuff like his real enthusiasm for cars, his honesty, his lack of ego, his never ending sense of wonder and sticking to his formula for reviewing cars. The guy has reviewed cars of all types and prices, has car industry recognized reputation, and yet unlike a lot of KZbinrs, he still feels like a guy next door, he doesn't threat us the viewers like we are small. Keep it up Doug. In a way, it's probably why everyone is willing to borrow him their priceless toys to take a look at.

About the interior cloth, I remember watching an interview with Frank Stephenson, the designer of this car. It had to do with lightness and uniqueness. Leather would have been heavier, and bare plastic was just unacceptable for such a car, of course. If I remember correctly, he said that he happend to stumble upon this particular fabric while visiting various suppliers in search of something suitable, he liked it and they bought the entire stock. It wasn't specced as "fake carbon", or made especially for Maserati.

I've been waiting for this Christmas Gift Video from Doug! I was lucky enough to drive one of these on the German Autobahn with the Owner (an older Collector from Munich) on the Passenger Seat, this thing sound like a WW2 Airplane dive bombing at around 300km/h (186mph). Here in the Alps we have yearly Events where all Super and Hypercar Owners of the "Supercar Owners Circle" come to an old Swiss Airfield and race their Cars and also tour them on nice Roads through the German, Swiss, French, Italian and Austrian Alps, this always includes TWO Maserati MC12 as well as several Pagani Zonda, Pretty much every Koenigsegg & Bugatti, Lamborghinis from all Generations, Mercedes.Benz McLaren Stirling Moss etc. For those curious to see them among many other Cars that only collect Dust in Garages of other Collectors, there must be plenty of Videos on KZbin if you search for "Supercar Owners Circle Event". Thanks for this detailed Tour Doug, and if you ever get to Germany, you'll definitely get a lot of Cars to review! Prost & Cheers from the Bavarian Alps

Fun fact about the MC12 driver's seat and pedals - they were all custom made for each owner at the purchase order. The future owners were pushed into substance (similar to those used in the process of making braces) and the seat as well as pedals were then formed to fit only the one owner. Making it basically hard to buy one second hand. (Colleague of mine is dating a son of an owner of the MC12 haha)

In my youth, I was on holiday in the south of France near Cannes and one of these appears on the road, I just went crazy ! To see this thing moving and it was new at the time, it was so glorious and epic ! I had the time to take one picture on my terrible photo camera, I still have this picture today, but man the only one I saw in my life was this one and will be the last, because of the rarity I guess ... I remember watching this on Top Gear many years ago, it set a lap time of 1:18.9 and beat the Ferrari Enzo, I remember specifically the sound it made as it went through the follow through, funny how I remember that specific moment so well, maybe because I was 8-9 years old and thought it was the coolest thing ever
@12gark

On a track, it will beat anything of that era. It has ridiculous downforce and very little drag for how big it is. People forget that this thing went racing basically stock: slick tires, an engine tune and a worse aerodynamic kit to respect the rules of the GT championship, and won five championships in a row (both driver and team). It's ridiculously fast.

I'm curious to know what you call mentality of early 2000? Doug, thank for your outstanding review of the Magnificent Maserati MC12. I fell in love with this car the instant I saw the three-quarter view of it looking into the camera. What a stunning body design. Long and sensuous, built for speed and low and angry at the same time. The exquisite white and blue paint design belied a racing royalty lineage that extends to today. What a magnificent car. What a magnificent engine. I wish you were allowed to drive it on a track so you could go through, at least, three gears, at almost full throttle. What beautiful music she makes. Bizarrely, one of the true quirks of this car on the racetrack was that, at over 200 mph going on a long downhill straight portion of track, these cars liked to allow air under the front of the car and they would explode off the track and fly a hundred feet in the air doing somersaults as they went. I don't think any driver ever died but it was impressive to say the least. The MC12 was modified to stop that for obvious reasons. The MC12 is a track car. Although you were allowed to drive this massively rare, beautiful car, the long overhang front end and the long overhang rear end do not survive in a real world street setting well even with the life feature on the car. Even this rare Maserati shows damage to the bottom of the carbon fiber fins on the diffuser at the rear of the car. This is likely trailering damage. This car is so damn long, trying to get it on a trailer that has any kind of ramp is nearly impossible without rubbing the bottom of those rear fins. So, she is a very particular car. Built to excel on the track and defeat all competition. And she is one of the most beautiful, most impractical cars ever made. Thank you, Maserati, for crafting the Masterpiece called the MC12.

Weirdly, I've seen quite a few of these. There used to be a big Italian concorso event in the Poconos in Pennsylvania, and every year a few MC12s would show up. Then, I went to a place in Orlando that had two of them. Initially, Maserati planned to only make 25 MC12s, but demand was high and so they decided to make one more production run the following year. It's still much rarer and cooler than the Enzo Ferrari and acts as a kind of sequel to the F50 (targa top especially).
