Thank you (especially the owner) for taking the time to go into details about this car, because as you said, there isn't much historical video record of it or about it. Those that know, know, but still appreciate it, and those that don't, are in for a treat.

The "carbon fiber cloth" came from the shoe industry. It's a nice durable fabric that was used on a TON of sneakers throughout the late 80's and most notably the 90's. Used on many Jordan models.
@2006Vantage2 жыл бұрын
Wasn’t aware of that. Thanks for sharing. It looks very similar to the center sections on the carbon fiber seats in my Scud.

That fabric totally reminds me of a Chevy Cruze. Horrible comparison, but it also has a veery similar fabric on the dash lmao

Cool that the Race version of the MC12 DID have the covers over the lights. Makes sense for a bit more aero efficiency.

What I love about Doug is that he is so immersed in the coolness of the rare cars themselves, he is basically unaware that he is the one driving those cool cars. It's like, "Look at how cool this car I'm driving is!" instead of "Look at the cool car I'm driving!" 😎

Doug, thank for your outstanding review of the Magnificent Maserati MC12. I fell in love with this car the instant I saw the three-quarter view of it looking into the camera. What a stunning body design. Long and sensuous, built for speed and low and angry at the same time. The exquisite white and blue paint design belied a racing royalty lineage that extends to today. What a magnificent car. What a magnificent engine. I wish you were allowed to drive it on a track so you could go through, at least, three gears, at almost full throttle. What beautiful music she makes. Bizarrely, one of the true quirks of this car on the racetrack was that, at over 200 mph going on a long downhill straight portion of track, these cars liked to allow air under the front of the car and they would explode off the track and fly a hundred feet in the air doing somersaults as they went. I don't think any driver ever died but it was impressive to say the least. The MC12 was modified to stop that for obvious reasons. The MC12 is a track car. Although you were allowed to drive this massively rare, beautiful car, the long overhang front end and the long overhang rear end do not survive in a real world street setting well even with the life feature on the car. Even this rare Maserati shows damage to the bottom of the carbon fiber fins on the diffuser at the rear of the car. This is likely trailering damage. This car is so damn long, trying to get it on a trailer that has any kind of ramp is nearly impossible without rubbing the bottom of those rear fins. So, she is a very particular car. Built to excel on the track and defeat all competition. And she is one of the most beautiful, most impractical cars ever made. Thank you, Maserati, for crafting the Masterpiece called the MC12.

One of my favorite cars ever to this day. I still remember in the early days of KZbin there was a guy that took delivery of one, immediately drove it in the snow and slid and smacked the back into something, did some damage and continued to drive it, that was a truly wealthy man. There's a guy out by me with an MC20 in the same spec and it is gorgeous.
@SouthCoastLocos2 жыл бұрын
I was going to mention that guy. He also bought a F1 car too. But driving the MC12 in the snow was pretty cool.

I’ve always loved this car - from an era when Maserati (along with Lancia my two favourite marques) fell short of expectations it was the super-stylish outlier, far more attractive than the Enzo. Wonderful stuff Doug, thanks for sharing with petrolheads the world over.
@nicholascohen76592 жыл бұрын
Weirdly, I've seen quite a few of these. There used to be a big Italian concorso event in the Poconos in Pennsylvania, and every year a few MC12s would show up. Then, I went to a place in Orlando that had two of them. Initially, Maserati planned to only make 25 MC12s, but demand was high and so they decided to make one more production run the following year. It's still much rarer and cooler than the Enzo Ferrari and acts as a kind of sequel to the F50 (targa top especially).

My wife used to work a few doors down from ferrari of silcon valley. The owner had one in the showroom for years. I’d pass by it almost everyday picking up my wife. Even went inside and saw it a couple of time. Never really appreciated how rare it was. I always knew it was the cousin of the enzo (which was also at the dealership) but not street legal in the US.

What a beautiful car! I consider myself fortunate to have seen an MC12 Corsa driven in anger around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course a few years ago at the SVRA event at IMS (and up close in Gasoline Alley). Hearing it scream down the front straight at full voice and echo through the hallowed grandstands is truly a cherished memory.

If I'd have to guess, the headlights don't have covers so it's easier for race teams to install the yellow headlight covers required for gt teams at le mans to differentiate between gt cars and the prototypes. Those run white headlights. Absolutely vital for endurance racing at night by headlight.
