Usually i'm not a fan of this cost cutting (especially since the benefit doesn't get passed on to us in Europe) but the new tooling is a lot more realistic, the front is lower, rear lights are better and there is a air vent behind the rear wheel like the real car.

My Blvd. F40 has the same giant gap, and my Ultra red one with F40 on the side does have a smaller gap just Like yours. Even with the gap, those Blvd. F40's still command a pretty Penney online. Thanks for the info. I had to dig out my Ferrari sets for this.

It is a bit disappointing that Mattel changed the Ferrari F40 casting, but I think it was best that Mattel changed it due to creating a gap between the 2 separate pieces.

I'm going to miss the metal chassis more than the opening hood feature, actually. I can see your point about liking the cleaner lines. Maybe Mattel's now using 5-packs as sendoffs to cars with opening hoods and metal chassis, selling 5-packs with the old variation first, and then the new variation later. It's not like the F40 had been a regular mainline in over a decade anyhow, the blue one from 2001 was the last version sold on a regular mainline card, so far as I can tell. The one with the Shell logo is easily my favourite F40, though it was a Ferrari Racer from 2007, not a Speed Machines car.

I think HW has made a new mold for the Ferrari F40 without the opening hood. If that's the case, the old mold with the opening hood has been permanently removed from the production line. BTW, does Mattel still have the rights to the Ferrari marque? Will there be any new Ferrari models for next year?

Quite unfortunate that a lot of the cars are losing their moving parts, sucks the value of the dollar has gone down to where Mattel can't really keep the moving part on and still make the profit they need

Diecast Chris I don't know Mattel's desired profit margin but I think that labor costs are a concern. They can only find low-cost labor for so long. Hot Wheels been about a buck for over 40 years! Nothing stays that cheap for so long.

Not only did the 67 camaro lost its opening hood, the DMC Delorean lost its opening rear hatch as well. I believe the 67 camaro with the opening hood is being made in the adult line as of December 2023. The Delorean however idk. Sucks that the 67 Camaro, 65 Mustang Convertible, Ferrari F40, DMC Delorean, and others that had opening features are no more in the mainline series.

Could it be that the Ferrari F40 molds are beginning to wear out? If this model's been produced for well over 25 years, the casting is probably warped and too old to be able to produce a near-flawless line around the hood, it came out in 1989 after all.

***** Both didn't get a hood for their plastic-bodied Color Shifters release and you're right, it won't be long for the '67 Camaro and Shelby Cobra 427 S/C to lose their metal opening hoods in the basics.

I think you're thinking only of cars that originally were in the mainline series with metal chassis. There are at least a couple of cars that always had plastic chassis as mainlines and still have opening features. To name two off the top of my head, the '56 Mercury and the Ferrari 512M (the racing car, not to be confused with the 512 Modificata, the Testarossa variant that Hot Wheels confusingly lists as "F512M").

Come to think of it, there was at least one metal/metal mainline car with opening features in 2014: Mustang Funny Car. And it was one of the best mainlines this year too. I even liked the tampos better than those on the Treasure Hunt version of it from 2011. Another metal/metal 2014 mainline with an opening feature (kind of) was, of course, the Morris Mini, though, by "opening", it's more like you can just take the whole body off the car so I'm only semi-counting that as there is no hinge.

Mattel had a Ferrari Racers line that used the Comold wheels which were introduced with the AcceleRacers. The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti was part of that line.

just goes to show how bad the shipping costs are or employment are at the making place, the machine that make the lil fold so that the boot can open gone, the guy who puts it into place correctly gone, also no more really heavy castings we had 1 that's it 1 the 56' truck (purple with green flames 2013 model) other then that its all light weight plastic and light weight metal i'm serpised they haven't just said *bleep* it just make the cars like you see in those cheap shops, low cast metal hard to read tampo's we'll make a killing. its no wonder MB is becomming more popuar,
