The Jensen FF was a different bodyshell to the Intercepter; it has a longer front end. It also has ABS.

The engine originally fitted to all Jensen FFs was the Chrysler 383 ci unit. Later Interceptors had the 440.

I don’t own a Jensen FF , mine is a standard MK3 which is an absolutely fabulous car. I can only imagine what the FfF must be like - incredible with 4wd ! How lucky you were to get the opportunity to drive one. I’d far rather drive that than any modern Ferrari. What a design icon the Interceptor is. Excellent film, thankyou.

Agree with Willie - though it would be nice to drive a Ferrari FF daily in cold weather climes, I am afraid the profile will not age well. My Jensen FF continues to look better and better 43 years on........

I'd take the Jensen any day of the week. parts are way more common for both the 727B Torque Flight transmission and that big 440. The engine only puts out around 390 hp but it has so much torque because the 440 was a motor for the gas powered version of the Dodge D-1000 tractor. It was also Chryslers motor of choice for their big RV Chassis . The difference to me, lewis72 between the Jensen FF and the Land Rover I believe the old Land Rover wasn't something you wanted or could do 140 mph in

Can't see it anywhere in the comments already so I'll restate it here. Harry Ferguson was one of the greatest vehicle engineers of the 20th century, arguably up there with Whittle, Honda, etc.... Nearly all tractors running today still use many facilities that he patented and are substantially just bigger versions of his original concepts. The one thing I've never understood was why he never considered 4 wheel drive on any tractor. To speculate, I know he had a near-obsession with weight reduction, perhaps that, plus the relatively low power outputs of his era might have contributed. Still a puzzle though.

Absolutely gorgeous! Very different cars but the Jensen FF was such a cool car and 40 years on, still looks fantastic. OK, the Ferrari is "better" but I'd take the Jensen ;-)

It's 2021, and the Interceptor is going to stand out even more now. Give it an update to modern tyres, a well thought out alignment and modern dampers, and it'll be much more fun for 'drivers' rather then the gamer car that does all the work for you.

They intended to do so, though it was built as a racer, but never compted. They showed it then in London and Paris (1903 and 1904), but still nobody bought the car. The original car still exists and stands in the national automobile museum in the Netherlands (Louwman collection).

I think that 4WD WOULD have happened if there had been no Jensen FF, it's just they were first to do it. There were also prototypes of the Stag & (errr) Monza with Fergusen's 4WD system. Audi would have done the Quattro either way as 4WD was used elsewhere before on cars.

Loved this video right up to the time when the pig ugly monster of a contraption overtook the Jensen . My own Interceptor takes myself my ladyfriend and our two freinds out to special occasions when only the Jensen will do . The four of us even go on holiday with all the luggage safely packed in the massive boot . We travel down the Motorway with the stereo playing softly as the distant rumble of the Chrysler V8 never outstays its welcome , Visibility for all four of us is panoramic as we admire the sweeping hills and the coastline . We did pass a Ferrari on the hard shoulder of the motorway last weekend as he had broken down, Overheated in the traffic congestion and his lady was sitting on the safety barrier so we gave her a lift and she told us the Ferrari, when it was running was so loud , terrible visibility and wernt that comfortable compared to the Interceptors interior that she thought the Jensen was 1000 times the car that her boyfreinds overhyped tinny noisy Ferrari was .

So reading all of the comments , it is overwhelming in favour of the Jensen that most people would want . I am proud of the Jensen as I used to live very close to the factory and every day see the new Interceptors out on test . Ferrari ? nah .

I don't think that that's true. The FF was the first prod. car to have 4WD & ABS but someone else would have done it sooner or later, without Jensen. Ferguson also made a few 1-offs of 4WD Triumph Stag, 2500, Opel Monza and probably some others too. Land Rover was about before FF & that spawned Range Rover.

the problem is is that the jensen was a competitor to the aston who never really could compete with the ferraris they were just way outclassed and still are. They were more competition with maserati and still are so its unfair for the jensen. They should be doing this test with an aston or a maser but none of these brands do 4w

Jensen should have made flaired fendered version so that wider tires could have been used. Look Porsche did with turning the 924 into the 944, just so much better. I mean Jensen Intercepters are not totally " refined" automobiles anyway with BB Mopar V8s over the front wheels so why didn't they go more brutish with flares?

I am the proud owner of a genuine Jensen FF, yellow, with close to ZERO mileage in it. Has actually never been outside only pushed less than 50 meters in total, by hand. It's a Dinky Toys model. If I only had the original cardboard box, but I don't. Got it for Christmas when I was a little boy. We didn't know at that time that the value would be 3 times higher decades and decades later with the box, so it was thrown in the garbage bin immediatelysome 45 years ago. Anyways, it's not for sale, it resides happily on top of my hi-fi tuner, together with an Aston Martin DB5 Convertible. The Ferrari has no style anymore. They always had an odour of after shave to them, that was OK, Porsche smelled of cigar - but todys Ferraris even lost the after shave odour. Now they're just over-over-overly designed.

What we have here is with the Jensen, the safest most luxurious most sensational way to travel which is why God drives a Jensen in heaven , 4 full seats (not a 2 plus 2 ) but the rear passengers have a 2 seats not seen in anything this side of a VIP lounge an exhaust noise like the voice of God old testament yet beautifuly quiet cruising . Style that makes an Aston Martin DBS look longingly at whereas the Ferrari (or is it a Nissan) is loud for louds sake , only 2 people inside the thing , cramped noisy tinny overpriced and totally impracticle Where is the boot ? The Jensen will forever be the motoring icon that Ferrari can only aspire to .

The interceptor is the definitive supercar. There is none better . it is the ultimate in transport . It cannot be beaten. Nothing else catches the eye the look, the sound or the name , It is motoring perfection for the well financed and those that can but dream. it is also the vehicle of choice of the Lord God Almighty to drive round the leafy lanes of Heaven. Everybody else drives Nissan lookalikes .

Lets face it, there never has and never will be a car to touch the glamour or the glory of the Interceptor . Aston Martin DBS were ok...ish until you looked at the parts bin thrown together interior. The Jensens magnificent interior could and does shame any car today and that includes my BMW 7 series . Interceptors were for the truly glamourous and stylish Sinatras of this world, the other cars are for the "new money Beckhams" of this world. like his football carreer (could have done better) but not good enough to bring the silverware home. Just about sums up the so called Ferrari in this clip.

I don't think they'll do a special programme about that Ferrari in 45 years time. It's just another rather anonymous Ferrari clone. Ferraris are pretty enough, but they're not outstanding and they're much of a muchness. People buy into the Ferrari myth and stop thinking clearly. It's rather like supporting Manchester United. That is, it's less a matter of how good a football team Man' Utd happen to be, (or how good a a car a Ferrari is) and more a case of people's need to associate with a popular mythology, and by association, gain some imagined status. What's particularly sad about Ferrari obsessives is that 99.9% of them will never even own one! Whether it's Ferrari, Harley Davidson, Rolex watches or Rayban sunglasses - it's all the same consumer kiddology - don't buy into it - it won't make you happy.
