Sam, you expect the expensive paint to match, when proffesionals are not painting the car, you're just a bunch of amateurs if the people who paint them at the factory took that paint and repainted the car it would match, same as if you took it to a proffesional shop worth their sauce, I mean what did you expect painting it outdoors, you know nothing about the properties of paint.

@@ultimaterebuilds7127 Or color match to the faded paint.
@TheOcculus5 жыл бұрын
British Racing Green is a darker color. Darker colors seem to have more noticeable tint variance from UV in sunlight but all paints fade as they age. It all depends on exposure. The other thing that isn't common knowledge is there will be noticeable tint element and base color variances from batch to batch even tho they come from the same manufacturer. Even Gallons, pints, or quarts mixed by your paint guy from the same batches of tint and base will vary slightly from container to container. Even a very good paint guy will have slight variability. When you paint an entire vehicle you want to mix the pints, quarts, or gallons for that job together so they are one homogeneous color. A good paint house will do that for you. The above is why color matching in collision repair is an art. I would probably sand and repaint the hood along with the car. I would get UV blockers added to the clearcoat if possible. They do help slow UV color layer fade quite a bit. The original British Racing Green will be gorgeous. Lots of work to get there but the end product will be worth it.

It doesn't matter the paint brand you buy, it's all mixed at the store. When you're buying such small quantities, it's often harder to get the exact amount of paint accurate for the formula, because the tolerances are lower. Always test spray on some cardboard and compare. Get the shop to do a remix if it doesn't match. And blending would definitely help, but isn't always necessary if you can nail the colour match.

FYI: To get a paint to match - one needs to ask the seller of the paint at what quantity of paint (to match original formula) needs to be ordered to get the exact paint formula as the original factory paint formula. Sometimes it can be 8 ounces - but only the color formula computer can determine that quantity. In small quantities some components of the paint are so small it is literally ZERO. But to match the original those elements cannot be excluded! I've had to order much more paint than required to get the exact color formulation/match to existing paint. Another excellent solution is to have the paint on the repaired auto scanned by a local HI TECH paint seller with their high end color matching camera. This will also accommodate the change of the original color of the paint as the sun (UV rays) makes the original color change / fade. Also they can advise you again at what quantity needs to be mixed to match factory original formula.
