Hey, found your channel through the Hamilton Collection and I can already tell your videos are very high quality! I have been doing detailing as a small side business for a few summers now, and I enjoy watching pro detailers like you working on some amazing cars. I'm still contemplating making a career out of detailing, i'm mostly doing recommendation/friend/family details right now and only washing/interior cleaning. As of right now i'm charging 60 for cars, 70 for SUV, and 100 for trucks/3 row SUV, and I regularly get 20% tips on top of this, not sure if it means I should up my prices or not lol.

Also feel free to dm me on Instagram if you have detail questions! If Your getting a tip like that on almost every job then your price is probably to low. If it's a side hustle that's awesome. But if it was your main hustle what would you need to charge to really pay the bills. Or how many cars at that rate would you need to do? That's likely the question to ask so you find out what the cars/time is worth to you. My least expensive detail is $250 for reference. Based on the jobs I do I can't really run my business doing $60 washes routinely. Nothing wrong with a wash business tho! Just understand if that's your chosen business model you need volume! Likely some future employees. A wash business can be as lucrative as anything else if setup correctly. Checkout my "the s!#t that matters" video. I talk about basically finding your passion in your job and that it's really important in my opinion. Hope to see you around the channel!

You do it slowly then set up a physical therapy session and then a psychiatric exam to see why you do this. Just kidding. Kinda lol.. A lot of that is hand polishing slowly. You just can't fit tools in. But I can get polishers into a lot of it.

Noticed the rotors were rusty after the wash. Does the car go out like that or do you remove it some how? I use Hyde’s to prevent it and the rust colored dust that ALWAYS 🤬 sticks to the wheels when the pads rub it off.

Typically I removed it. But after the mold issues and this being a pretty horrendous car to drive mechanically it was picked up as is at the end of video.

@@STATUSDETAIL that car definitely had bigger issues to worry about. I believe I heard the car was returned to the seller…..after a first class correction and detail. How do YOU prevent rusty rotors or remove it if you weren’t able to prevent it? The only way I have really found is to spray rotors with Hyde’s just after rinsing them. There’s also definitely less of it during colder months when things dry slower.

Thanks Ryan! Oh man I have no idea where to start besides simply START! I would highly recommend learning the ins and outs of paint correction and ceramic. You can also learn how to apply ppf and that can be really lucrative. I started out doing not exciting cars so it definitely takes time to build up to doing crazy cars like I do now. Just do really good work consistently and you will build the reputation that attracts exotic cars... If that's what your interested in. Maybe you want to build a volume wash business. No wrong way. Just make sure your happy with the business you create and that it doesn't become a job. In my opinion when you build any business it shouldnt really feel like work if your following the right path. Super iconic car! To proptfic it you need to basically gut the interior. Clean the inner body then either clean what can be cleaned and disinfect it or full replace the components. Mold like this is a pretty big deal to fix! It's very possible to effect your health if you spent a lot of time in it.

Thank you so much for stopping when you saw the extent of the mold. So many KZbin detailers ‘tackle’ mold and give the impression that it’s not a big deal which is bad for the weekend warriors. You need to protect yourself and protect your environment when dealing with mold. You can kick mold spores into the air and if you’re detailing in your home garage, get it into your house’s HVAC. Us weekend warriors need to see that mold is not to be taken lightly (of course a moldy bagel under the front seat is different than what you ran into). Keep up the great work, and I love the Testarossa. Sorry to see the interior in such rough shape.

Thanks! The outside really came out great! Interesting point about HVAC. I was running the shop mini split during the detail. I should probably go check that out. Maybe spray some disinfectant into it while it's running.

I agree with you. I always refuse when people ask me to remove mold in a car. I am not equiped for it, and even if I was, as a mobile detailer, wearing the hazmat suit and mask in 90 degree heat and full sun would probably kill me. You are wise not to take these jobs, your health is much more important than a little more money. Bad enough we can get nerve damage from polishing for hours on end, mold is not something we should expose ourselves to.

@@Calendyr agreed. Many KZbin detailers seek this stuff out because it makes great satisfying content. But I'm just not interested. I truly do my best work when it doesn't feel like work. Because I love what I do. But mold removal is definitely work. It's also hazardous as you mentioned. Getting the outside sorted was a ton of fun tho🙂🙂🙂

I have never used reflect. Usually when I jewel my goto last step is CarPro Essence or Essence+. This came out amazing, which makes sense after 4 steps of polishing. How long did you spend on the exterior detail from start to finish? Looks like a 18 hours job to me. I am mobile so I try to avoid those kind of details, if it can't be done in a day I prefer not to do it. These are the kind of details I wish I had a shop so I could do. So you went with CSU and EXO or CSL and EXO for the coating?

Was here 3 days. Half of third day was for interior with 4 day for extra time if needed. But the mold put a end to it basically once the ceramic was on. I always do interior while ceramic cures. So it's my last step basically. CSL EXO 👍 CarPro essence and plus are good. Reflect is more versatile. It's a great jeweling polish on hard paint. If you work it long enough with some force it can correct light swirls in medium hard paint. It can correct medium grade swirls in soft paint pretty well. If you work it the right way on soft paint it can jewel well too. It also has virtually no dust. It's kind of a home run product in my eyes. Rupes one I think it's called is also a killer dedicated jeweling polish.

There is something really special about this car in black... as long as the paint looks better than new like it does here. I appreciate this video! My '93 Nissan 240SX has been sitting under my carport for 4 years since the ignition was damaged by an attempted car thief and its got green gunk from my Evergreen tree (rain runoff from tree, not pitch) caked on the top and side surfaces of the rear fenders and back end... so you scared me when you said that stuff can rot INTO the paint... I hope that didn't happen! Can you recommend a foam to spray on and let sit to get it off? I just saw a video where they pressure washed a car, but that feels like way too much pressure to me (they were using something little that appeared to be made for detailing and likely has the perfect amount of pressure). In 2016 my car had a complete complimentary wax and polish when it went to the body shop, so I don't want to mess that up with the method I use to remove the tree gunk (assuming it's not already messed up by the green tree gunk). I would pressure wash as much of it off as possible. Then foam with a very strong solution of gyeon form or carpro lift or gtechniq citrus foam. Pressure wash from a good distance away and slowly get closer. Hopefully you find a effective distance. You don't want to get to close but you might have to depending on how thick and crazy the build up is. Probably clay that area once it's clean but still wet during the wash. Then so e compound and polish after should restore it assuming it's not damaged already. Good luck!

Does it need to be clayed to get gunk off, or do I clay it even if everything appears to have come off with soap? I'm in Seattle where our local car wash place is Brown Bear. Do you think the foam that comes out the self-serve wash on the "foaming brush" setting would be good enough? Obviously I won't use their brush!!! Thank you SO much for your advice!!

@@StratMatt777 my pleasure 🙂 I like to talk about clay like going to the emergency room. You don't just wake up and to a ER. You go when you break your arm or something makes you go. We don't clay unless something something makes us need to pull the clay out. Theoretically it's possible that you wash the car and it would be incredibly clean after. Play some what you're describing and because the car is sitting so long this is extremely unlikely. After you wash everything off would I expect is that your paint will be very rough feeling almost like sandpaper. The clay will remove that effect and also pull a bunch of junk off the clearcoat. You really can't affectively polish or compound a car if it's loaded up with a bunch of gunk. So it's pretty important that we get that out with the clay the best of our ability and then we can really go in and polish and or compound. The wash and clay is kind of like "scrubbing in" before surgery. The surgery being the paint correction step. It sounds like you're talking about a coin operated pressure washer pay where you control the pressure washer gun. You can definitely use something like this to clean the car up. I have a hard time believing the soap coming out of that is very good but it's better than nothing especially if it's something that's easy and convenient to get to. Make sure you bring a bunch of quarters this isn't a process you'll want to speed through.

@@StratMatt777 once the rinse is done I'd let the foam sit for a few minutes. Maybe like 5 max. Do your best to do this in the shade and not indirect sun. You don't really want anything to dry out. You can definitely film it more than once.

Thanks for watching! When I started out detailing cars I kind of hated black cars. They are tricky to do and hard to really make them look great especially in the sun. For some reason all my paint correction jobs kept coming In as black cars lol. So I ended up getting crazy good at it and now it's my favorite thing to do!

Nice! 👍 I see a lot of European detailers being much quicker to whip out a Rupes Scorpio and a Ta-50 and start damp sanding basically the whole car right out of the gate on something battered like this. As Americans, I think we get real icked out in a hurry at the concept of sanding at all. If you wanted a real quick leveling cut without building up the heat, would that not be one way you could go about it?

Great question. There are a lot of ways to paint correct a car. Many of the ways are wrong. Many of the ways are "right" In some situations wetsanding or dry sanding is the necessary and correct step. I have seen videos showing sanding vs compounding and in some situations the sanding removed less paint while keeping lower temps as you mentioned! While removing orange peel. Hard to believe! To sand a car I think you have to understand what your goal is. Is it defect removal? Was the car painted poorly and not refined at the body shop? Are you trying to remove orange peel? I certainly could have wetsanded all vertical surfaces. They had the worst defects and etchings. But I knew that paint was better than most and had little orange peel to start. Defects could definitely be polished away and the heat I initially added made the paint swell. This acts a little like a exfoliating step for etchings. Heat is not always bad when paint correcting. It's often helpful. But must be managed at safe levels. you can also avoid heat with some different techniques and products when needed. So in my personal opinion sanding would have added nothing to this car. I did have a few deep scratches. Sanding would have removed those. However on a 33 year old car that started with notorious thin paint and soft paint.... Not worth it. I can paint depth gauge it but that tells me primer. Base coat. Color coat. Cear coat. It does not tell me just clear coat. So to a large degree I really don't know how much clear I have to sand away and leave enough so I can still compound the sanding marks back out and then polish again. This may be one of my longest responses ever lol. I hope that all made sense. I'm definitely not against sanding paint to be clear. It just has a right and wrong time for every car and it's unique situation

It’s just a matter of academics why I asked, and that’s a pretty good answer I’d say. I’m looking at getting a little better knowledge in regards to sanding and getting myself the Rupes tools I mentioned. I have a personal vehicle that I would like to practice this type of correction on when I get the tools in hand. It’s just an interesting concept to me to try to approach my corrections with the oem mindset the Europeans do.

@@TheRogueElement You can definitely work on your personal car and learn and that's totally fine but for sanding practice I would go to a junkyard or a body shop and basically take what will be essentially a free hood or maybe a $50 hood and learn on that Also if you want to get into sanding check out KXK Dynamics they're basically the Masters of sanding cars

Shame what someone did to such a classic car. Nice job reviving her. When you are paint correcting do you measure paint depth? I didn’t hear any mention of it and it’s really important on an older like this when you have no idea how many times it’s already been detailed. Especially when you are doing a major correction like this. With detailing on KZbin making it look so easy many people are now machine polishing that never would have touched one otherwise. I have a feeling the vast majority of them are actually over correcting and removing too much paint. They’ll never know it though, but the second or third owner will.

I specialize in correction so I remove exactly what I need with the process I use. I could write a paper in this so I'll just stop with that lol A paint depth gauge reads everything. Clear. Color coat. Base coat. Primers. They virtually never read carbon fiber and many of the cars we do are made of it. Point is they read everything. So if I take a reading on this car it tells me I have 5 mils. I don't know how thick the paint was oem in cars that long ago when new. We have no history in previous owner and how often he polished it had it cleaned. I could have 1 mil of clear or 3. Either way the owner wants correction because you saw how bad it was. So a deity gauge isn't going to help me or guide me on a job like this unless it said it had 2.7 mils and if that was the case it would have warning signs all over it to not touch it. Paint correction done correctly is like a set form. Guys taking a rotary with wool and aggressive compound hacking away is.... Something else. That's how you burn past clear.

I love the content but I think a nice balance between talking and maybe some light music while you detail would be nice. Talking the whole time almost takes away from the actually visuals imo. There's a lot of channels out there but I've noticed the ones with ALOT of subs have a nice balance between talking and just letting the content do its job lol.

Surely this process of heating the pad and panel and seeing defects ' vanish ' is simply paint swell, and a temporary effect??

Partly temporary. But I believe it's helping in this situation to kind of exfoliate some continuation and etchings out. Like leveling it. Certain scratches for example can swell then cool down and show.heat is not always bad if managed carefully. You obviously can't over heat panels. That can cause unrepairable damage that requires body shops

You not wash it corectly ! First should clean the wheels and after the roof of the car and at the end the rest of the body ! This prosses should be maid from up to down because all the dirt from upper side is go down on the down area where was cleaned !
