A McLaren GT spec in Volcano Yellow is some of the coolest paint I have ever seen!! But when I saw it under my detail lights it was a disaster... Don't worry I fixed everything and filmed it all for your viewing pleasure! The car received a full decontamination wash, paint correction, in depth wet sanding, STEK PPF and Gtechniq Ceramic.

I was scared as shit of wet sanding before... Bought an A5 from Germany, and it came all banged up, so the choice was between sanding everything to make it look good, or paint booth. So I let go of my fear, and sanded the whole thing... Turned out great! Clips like these really help DIY people, not to mention that most detailers don't have the guts to sand panels. Thank you!

@STATUSDETAIL

All year round but especially in winter the best thing you can do for your car is put gyeon wet coat or carpro hydr light on it It's a spray and rinse ceramic sealant that works on glass paint wheels etc. You can even spray it into your fenders onto your suspension. I use it every single wash in the winter. And thanks for watching! That video is definitely filmed but has not been released as you know. It's kind of in a backlog of videos now. A nice space helps but the final product you turn out matters more than the shop you do it in. Think rocky. He trained in bad gyms and won. Then trained in glamorous gyms and lost. The work you put in matters more than the environment you do it in. Ideally you have excellent work going in and a great environment. If your starting environment is clean and has good lights your set to start 👍

Love these videos. I'm not even a detailer. I lease upper end normal cars ever 3 years like Infiniti, Audi, etc. Just got a new A5 and with 100 miles on the car, got 3 chips on the hood. I have OCD and want everything to be perfect. Car is totaled now. 😅. Tried my best to light sand it and touch it up, then sand and polish. It was tough due to the location and couldn't use any type of block but it came out better than it was. Its nice to see someone that has this level and attention to detail on other people's cars. If it one thing I can't stand is the old "it's good enough" from companies/people doing work on cars.
@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL 9 ай бұрын
"it's totalled" lolol. If your leasing it won't make as much sense. But if it really bothers you a lot then PPF right away will give your eyes and brain some relaxation for 3 years. Th first few chips scratches etc on a new car are always the hardest!
@jackal2001a
@jackal2001a 9 ай бұрын
@@STATUSDETAIL all my previous leases, chips were very few and far between but never had one so early on in my lease. If I ever decide to actually purchase a car as a weekend driver I'll probably PPF the entire car and make sure the company doesn't use stencil/plotters so the edges are wrapped. Keep up the good work.

What grade sand paper did you used? On this one i always wash my car's after polishing it people always say you don't have to but i do it anyways my piece of mind
@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL 9 ай бұрын
I think I did like 2500 then maybe a little 3000. Sometimes I go lower. This was filmed awhile ago so I don't fully remember the grade paper it was. In general sanding is similar to paint correction least aggressive method first. So if I can do a high number sandpaper first and get the results that's great. Some people are going to want to go right to like 1,000 and then try and sand the 1000 out with 3000. But sometimes 3 is all you need then just compound.

When you do the 2nd post polishing wash, do you only foam it and rinse? Or do you also contact wash again? And also how do you dry it? Also do you have a video uploaded precisely on how to wet sand?
@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL 9 ай бұрын
No video on wet sanding. KXK dynamics has great sanding information. Typically it's rinse. Foam. Rinse. Blow dry. Then gently wipe down with panel prep. PPF or ceramic follows. Contact can be done but depends how dirty the car is. Compound dust that is days old sometimes sticks more. Light polishing dust should just rinse away.

@@STATUSDETAIL Ok thanks for the information! While I have you here lol, if using a PH neutral shampoo, can you let it dry in the sun before rinsing off? I’m currently trying to do mobile detailing, but I live in SC and it’s really hot here this time of year, I’m also working by myself, so I struggle to wash the entire car before the soap begins to dry in the sun. Should I just let it dry and then rinse when I’m done, or should I wash and rinse section by section to ensure it doesn’t dry out? I just worry about water spotting instead then..

Hi Evan! I'm an owner of a 2017 BMW M4 Competition. I am a long time subscriber and I just wanted to ask you if I should do a PPF install on my car. I use my car regurarly, it's a daily driver, it's my only car. I drive it on the highway, I go 4-5 times a year on a longer trip (1400 miles back and forth) and I am not planning selling the car. It's my dream car and I want to keep as long as I can. Btw I am based in Austria.
@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL 9 ай бұрын
Hello to you in Austria! If you're going to keep a car forever then PPF tends to be a pretty good idea. Based on the details you've already given me I would guess the hood fenders rocker panels and front bumper likely have a good amount of road rash and chips already. At some point in time if you respray anything that has major defects in it make sure you let it cure for 30 days and then have PPF put on the entire front. Typically speaking cars Don't get too many rock ships on the doors rear fenders trunk lid and rear bumper. So you could do full body at that point if you were interested. In my opinion it's not a great idea to put PPF over a panel with multiple chips and bangs It just won't look very good unless we're only talking about a few here and there. If the stage you're at right now I would highly recommend a great paint correction and a ceramic coating on the outside. But if it's coming up on that time and you're ready to go through the whole process respray what needs to be sprayed and then do your PPF 👍 I hope that helps. Greetings from the USA🤝
@Stilo95
@Stilo95 9 ай бұрын
@@STATUSDETAIL On the hood I have one small rock chip, on the front bumper two smaller on both sides. Where the side skirts start just behind the wheel that area is rough...I still have the factory PPF on the rear fenders in front of the rear wheels. That started to get yellowish which I suppose it's normal. Would you recommend using a paint pen to correct the rock chips? I'm not keen on respraying the whole front bumper and the hood 😁
@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL 9 ай бұрын
@@Stilo95 you can definitely do touch up paint. A local PPF shop might even put a random scrap over some of the more damaged spots just to show you how it looks so you would understand the final product better. At the milage your talking about I'm sure you have lots of little hits and ppf will magnify that.

"not going to drive it" "not going to track it" "not going to rallies" "only going to hold it for about a year" Like why even buy the car at that point, you're just paying for storage that could be used to park something you enjoy
@STATUSDETAIL

There are several reasons to own a car like this even when you're not going to drive it very much. For example I would personally buy a car like this in a similar situation basically to have it as part of my status detail fleet. This then gives me a tax deduction. I'd rather the money sit in the form of a McLaren in my garage vs in the form of a check to the IRS
