I can only imagine just how badly that handles with the engine slung so far out front that there isn't even space for a bumper bar, let alone any radiators! (Note: i worked for Prodrive and we spent a lot of time and effort trying, and mostly failing, to make Scoob's with normal 4 cyl engines handle properly on the WRC stages. We could make them grip, or make them handle, but not both at the same time unfortunately because the front tyres were just overloaded compared to the rears. The WRC cars then came along, after the GrpA ones, and these were mostly based on transverse engined base models, so these could use clever transmissions to put the engine right back against the firewall. On the scoob trans the front drive shafts have to get to the middle of the front wheels so realistically there are finite limits on how far you can attempt to move the engine backwards. We even looked at a "split" front differential, ie a shaft and bevel drive on each side of the crankshaft to try to get the engine behind the front axle line, but the regs were too restricitve as to allowable firewall and tunnel mods necessary to accomodate this......)
@KSkucas10 ай бұрын
Fascinating experience! Thanks for sharing this
@griffinfaulkner351410 ай бұрын
From what he's said in other videos, the weight distribution didn't change enough to significantly impact the handling, mostly thanks to the complete lack of all the extra turbo hardware and shoving the radiator into the trunk. So it's still understeery and a bit of a tank on turn-in, but no worse than a normal Subie.
