Driving those is completely different from driving a rental kart. The chassis is different, controlling the throttle is different steering inputs are different, braking is different.

superkarts are no joke, they accelerate like a 911 turbo s, and carry as much down force as a radical. for 1/10 the price. sadly you can't really drive them many places nor vary often. if these were street legal, i'd be all over one.

I did a half hour taster session round the Mercedes track in Surrey in their 610bhp (c63s amg) £150K saloon back in January. It’s very noisy and powerful and all that but I would have easily seen it off in the 125 air cooled 7 speed I raced in the 90s. There is no comparison between a pure racing machine and a fast road car. The high centre of gravity, comfortable ride and dead weight of the plush interior will always drag it back no matter how powerful the engine is. Added to that the Merc is just no fun round a small track. The lack of grip and traction control mean you just end up booting it through every corner and get no sensible feedback as to what on Earth the car is doing. Give me a kart any day of the week.

OMG. New appreciation here. I have a shifter kart now and thank god I got rid of my "sports car" that only got me tickets on the highway. Forget that. Real drivers drive on a track... and they drive shifter karts. People who want to show off and attempt to impress drive Ferferries and Lamebos etc. Not to mention the high probability of killing someone in a "super car" driving recklessly on a public road will (should) land you in jail.

performance drawing is learned by lapping on a racetrack .. no substitute for it ... learning to find the line and how to carry momentum through the turns just can't be learned on public roads. I too have a 125cc shifter, and several dual engine 135cc vintage karts, fantastic bang for the buck ... and teaches me to not drive like a complete idiot on the road in my modified 911 Turbo.

Did the same. Honda CR125 in an Intrepid chassis. Stock, no mods besides open air filter (does it even exist with the air-box ?) and its a blast. It is geared to go quickly on a short track, not for top speed but what a rush coming out of the corners. Amazing brakes too. After I drove the shifter kart a few times, the M3 did not give me any thrills on a track. It was just too sane.

ArmageddonRacing Comes down to suspension that the Karts don’t have. With all the elevation change/small hills up and down that suspension is key for. Karts race at all the F1 tracks and it’s exciting to watch.

@@tedjames9176 Nah, elevation is totally safe in karting, aslong as it's not sharp and sudden. What would stop karting from racing at the IoM would be the road surfaces, they aren't maintained enough to be driveable at 160 mph without suspension, and 2 inches off the ground.

Back in the 80's before everyone had to live in a bubble wrap society they ran 440cc rotax shifter karts. Back then on a 4.5 mile road course they where only 7 seconds slower than indy cars. Topped out around 167-169 mph. Haulin da mail

The editing on this video makes everything really confusing. At approx. 1 min 8 sec it appears that a challenge lap has begun between a SuperKart and a Ferrari. Then, at approx 1 min 21 sec the video shows a different kart (likely a 125cc shifter kart) in front of a Ferrari. At 1 min 33 sec it shows the SuperKart on the track all by itself. At approx 1 min 45 sec it shows the SuperKart crossing the start/finish line approx 30 seconds ahead of a Ferrari. When did the 125cc shifter kart start the challenge lap? Was the 125cc shifter kart competitive with the Ferrari?

I think I remember that the other kart started up somewhat later due to problems with starting it up. Conclusion was that the karts were much faster overall than the Ferraris.

sounds right .. on a smaller course a 125cc shifter should outrun a lot of Supercars .. on a larger course probably not, but the 250cc SuperKart at the end of this video, would be untouchable, consider that these run near Formula Atlantic lap times at some road courses, crazy fast through turns being so small, lightweight and pushing 100+hp.

+Mads Max You do not need a cushion, what you need is to find a seat that does not feel uncomfortable. Kart seats are rigid in shape so if the shape does not suit your body type and size it will hurt you. If on the other hand it is the right shape it will feel more comfortable than any chair the way it hugs your body.

Those custom molded seats are perfect and of course expensive. However, after some time karting, you ribs will become stronger and bigger. Since your rib cage will change shape it will no longer fit inside that custom made mold and you will have to change seats or suffer. You'd rather keep it simple and just try a few seats till you find one that feels comfortable.

Doggieworld3 a 125 kart might have ~50hp or so, and a 250 kart might have 90 to above 100hp depending on the individual one. (and significantly less torque than that) The main factor in the kart being so fast is it weighs so little (~250lbs) compared to a Ferrari F430 which weighs more than 10 times as much. (So the kart also brakes and corners faster.)
