My oldest, a rescue, had a dental right after we got him a year ago. He was found wandering in someone’s yard, left unclaimed, so I took him in. He had gingivitis, so we took him in for a dental, but not terribly long after that dental one of his canines ended up dark brown from tip to gum line. The vet was a nightmare with a nightmare reputation (didn’t know until later), so I’m thinking whoever did the dental damaged that canine. His canine tips were gone as well. FF… he’s guessed to be around 5-6, based on the natural yellowing of his teeth. FF again… he had a poop situation a week ago and was brought in… tested extensively…. and the vet couldn’t find anything medically wrong. He stopped eating during this, but he takes Oxbow Critical Care, Carnivore, and he won’t go back to his mixture of kibble and air-dried raw… which he was just starting to accept. He still won’t eat the solid stuff, no matter what. I’m wondering if the eating solid foods difficulty could be from dental. I have to check his teeth today and take a good look. What I’m getting at is… do you think I should try whole prey pieces to help his teeth, or do you think that would just do more harm? I know you’re not a vet, but I’m just wanting your opinion is all.

I’m so glad to see this continuation. I’ve been on and off my plan to get ferrets the past couple of years; and ( if finances even out and things calm down by next year) I’ve decided to get the ferrets for my birthday (not had this year’s birthday yet, so it’ll be a while)

Rawhide. Yeah I stopped giving those to my dog years ago, after she threw up a ball size of a golf ball in her kennel. At first I was like WTF is that?! And when I eventually went to go clean it up, after picking it up I was surprised it was rock hard and not mushy. And then I was REALLY like wtf is this? And then upon more focused observation, I realized it was a ball of rawhide. Rawhide that she ate from a LONG time ago. Like a year ago I think it was. I never purchased her rawhide again. And then I did bones until she cracked a tooth on one. But that's how I realized rawhide doesn't digest.

Omg I'm so sorry to hear about such a stressful situation. I'm glad she ended up being okay. Rawhide is honestly such a scary treat, but it seems like a lot of people are thankfully turning away from it now.

Glad to see you back. Thank you for such an informative video, my family dog has dental issues which are caused from bad diet and not brushed teeth which really makes me disappointed. So along with that and other reasons I feed my ferret a raw diet so she never gets like that as I never want her to have that discomfort and difficulty eating. Thanks to that She has the best pearly whites I’ve ever seen! Ps it would be really cool to see a part 2 to the my ferrets are movie stars video, I am really interested in what they did and how they did it :D

irony that I commented before watching and then there were feral nz ferrets in the study 😅 that's why we can't have them, they flourish here and when your only mammal is bats your birds don't have any defences 😭

How do you feel about the Petsmile Professional Pet Toothpaste? It’s available on Amazon as well but I went with it for my ferrets because it’s VOHC approved, do you think enzymatic pet toothpaste is better?

Enzymatic toothpaste is always preferred because it does a much better job of killing bacteria
