I like how most of your replies to the anti-hunting comments boil down to: "Do you eat meat?", which usually answers itself when they refuse to reply. It seems you have a great way of dealing with rabbits, and an equally great way of dealing with haters. Keep it up!

@freedomofabird9 жыл бұрын
+rabbitcontrol westmids I know what you are getting at, and as you can see from my previous videos I usually use them. I hunted with ferrets for 30 years before I bought my first finder and I have never lost a ferret. I may have lost a few dead rabbits but when the box breaks and I can't afford a knew one, then the choice is mine. Time only changes technology, not the way we hunt. Its exactly the same as saying it is irresponsible to go mountain walking without a GPS or mobile phone. Technology is everything to some.
@seanrparr9 жыл бұрын
They certainly have their uses, i have walked fields well into the night with the lamp trying to find superb ferrets after thinking it would be a nice quick easy bury to clear, fortunately never left one behind yet lol, it is each to their own on this, i would definitely recommend anyone starting out should have their new ferrets best interest as their top prioity that is all.

okay, so this is the first I've ever seen or heard of ferreting. Very very very cool and efficient. how much training goes into one of these ferrets? Do they recognize commands?
@freedomofabird9 жыл бұрын
In all reality no training goes into the ferrets, they hunt on instinct, as they would do in the wild. Like many things in life though, they do get better at it, the more they do!
@freedomofabird9 жыл бұрын
Sorry forgot to say, no they don't understand commands in the same way that a dog would.
@radbcc9 жыл бұрын
+freedomofabird in that case, how do you recall or round up the ferrets when you want to go home? thanks
@freedomofabird9 жыл бұрын
+radbcc Once they have cleared the rabbits out of the warren, they come to the surface and you just pick them up. If you are not clearing out the warren and just skimming a few rabbits off the population, you just have to catch them up one at a time as they come to the surface. Usually when a rabbit bolts, the ferret is only seconds behind. Hope this answers your Q

Wait why did you stop the hunting? The weather got too hot? So ferrets can't stand the heat or what
@alexisgrunden15568 жыл бұрын
Ferrets like the cool and evening best; when it gets too hot, they won't want to come out of the warrens. They'd rather stay where it's dark and cool and comfy, so if you don't quit before the worst heat of the day, you can end up having to dig your ferrets out of the warrens. Some ferreters put trackers on their ferrets, so they can tell how deep underground they are, and where they are in a warren, in case they need to start digging, either for a stubborn rabbit, or for the ferret.

Brilliant ferreting videos aswell but what on earth are you doing ferreting this time of year ? And couldn't believe my eyes you dint have the collars and ferret finder on why not ? Glad to see another ferreting video from you though fella
@freedomofabird9 жыл бұрын
+motomeady hunting nd motocross I know its too early for normal ferreting season, but when landowner wants them catching or he will give permission to someone else, then you have to do it. (it is not always about sport and tradition, but sometimes about pure killing of rabbits)
@justjaedan20188 жыл бұрын
hey there don't want to kick up a storm but noticed your ferrets are not wearing collars, I also Ferret with no collars but was wondering do you feed your ferrets beforehand?
@freedomofabird8 жыл бұрын
Justin Burr I feed the ferrets normally all of the time. I've been ferreting for over 40 years and when I started all we used was liners. One of my mates eventually got a mk 1 but these days people really seem to get hung up about collars. They are the ideal but they are not essential. If you watch most of my videos you will see I use collars most of the time, but sometimes shit happens and I lend them out, or run out of batteries. I have never lost a ferret permanently they always return or get tempted out after a long wait. It's a little bit like walking to school.....kids and mothers of today think that a car journey is the only way😀
@justjaedan20188 жыл бұрын
freedomofabird thanks I generally have an idea of home time and start boxing them as they show close to that didn't know if not feeding them before going would add some drive usually give malt paste treats anyways this is only my second year so thanks again for the advise

@freedomofabird9 жыл бұрын
+Cyber Scum The ferrets are smaller and can fit down the holes. The ferrets will do both. Hopefully they will flush out the rabbits, but occasionally they corner them in a stop end, and then its all over for the rabbit :-))

3rdOfficerTaylor no we mainly do it for the sport most of us eat them after or give them away because they can be dangerous to sheep cows and horses as the rabbits make there burrows in the field it only takes a certain amount of weight for the hole to clapse there for if a horse were to stand over a burr or it could easily have a broken leg this is why most farmers want them gone

Why kill the rabbits? Wouldn't it be better to try and domesticate them? Judging by your channel, you must get 100 rabbits easily. Sure you could use them as meat; buy why go to the trouble of that? Instead you could keep them alive as pets/livestock.
@freedomofabird9 жыл бұрын
You cannot domesticate wild animals, it's cruel. Anyway where am I meant to keep the 100's of rabbits I get each year and who is going to pay for the feed and keep????!! Clearly in your fluffy bunny world that might work, but this is the real world where humans are top of the food chain, and rabbits are quite near the bottem.
