Racketeer Rabbit is a gem too. My favorite of the Friz gangster cartoons. Bugs and Thugs is hilarious too. This one has a similar premise to the Sylvester short.

This is a remake of Freleng's earlier 1950 cartoon, STOOGE FOR A MOUSE, which had Sylvester, Hector the Bulldog, and an unnamed mouse. This is one of the rare remakes that's actually better than the original.

@Joseph Castiglione Oh yes, I noticed how the Paramount-Noveltoon foreshadowed the two cartoons I mentioned
@chrismulwee49114 жыл бұрын
@Joseph Castiglione Famous was, as a whole, an underrated Cartoon Studio. Sure they were no match for Warner's, MGM, or even their immediate ancestor. Fleischer. But they still had fluent animation and bright vivid colors. Especially now when you see those restores Popeye Cartoons from Warner Archive.

Rocky first appeared in the 1946 film Racketeer Rabbit (which you must do one day). Rocky and Nick appear in Golden Yeggs and Catty Cornered . Mugsy first appears with Rocky in Bugs and Thugs. The next appearance of Rocky & Mugsy is in this cartoon (huh, yah learn somethin' new every day) Bugsy and Mugsy then They last appeared together in The Unmentionables and Mugsy's design has reverted back to the Bugs and Thugs version. Crazy, this due is famous for pretty much 2 cartoons.

@fluff13534 жыл бұрын
Yeah...but the difference is that the Mugsy from Racketeer Rabbit was a caricature of Edward G. Robinson. For some reason they decided to go with a newly-created character in the later shorts.

Well, Trevor, I'm going to say one nice thing- I always look forward to your commentaries every Saturday morning and today, I wasn't disappointed! I think Musgsy's 1st appearance is Bugs And Thugs. I remember making a video of Looney Tunes from TV (Bugs Bunny and Tweety, TBS Looney Tunes, Nick At Nite, Merry Melodies, etc) for a cousin of mine who's also a big Bugs Bunny fan and this was one of the cartoons I was lucky to capture. I must agree "I don't know how ya''s done it but ya done it" is a classic line and I liked your impersonation of it!

@@felixleidig8307 There's only three Rocky and Mugsy shorts, which are "Bugs and Thugs", "Bugsy and Mugsy" and "The Unmentionables". Rocky also appeared in "Golden Yeggs" and "Catty Cornered," but his sidekick in those were Nick, rather than Mugsy. There was also a prototype of Rocky in "Racketeer Rabbit."

I’ve never been a fan of the backgrounds in this cartoon was around the time started slashing the budgets
@TheLooneyTunesCritic Жыл бұрын
I beg to differ! They didn't slash the background budgets, are you kidding me, these things are gorgeous! Plus, they got the colors right in the restoration. Sadly, I did this commentary before it came out. You can really see the blend work in it, though. Amazing. It's really hard to do backgrounds that feel solid and concrete but wonky and loose at the same time. Almost every amateur cartoon artist today tries to do that, but they just end up looking like mushy balls of garish colors that don't mesh well; these backgrounds could be studied JUST in a 'color as mood/environment conveyer' class. That house FEELS old and moldy just because of the blends of chartreuse and violet!

Nope. The animation is VERY different than the slightly earlier Bugs And Thugs offering, and that's because they reused some of the cells from the earlier Mouse short. Not as crisp and vibrant...almost like a Pink Panther deal.
@TheLooneyTunesCritic4 жыл бұрын
You're not making sense, at least, none that I can see. . First of all, not that they were still in the practice of re-using cels in 1957, because they weren't, but even if they were, how would that effect the animation itself? It wouldn't, and even if it did, the animation would neither get more crisp or vibrant, as both of these things have nothing to do with animating. It being crisp is a result of it being photographed well, and vibrancy is color (ink and paint, not animation). . More to the point, the first Pink Panther short wouldn't hit theaters for at LEAST a decade after this cartoon. So since nothing you just said makes any sense, I don't know what you're overall point is (although, in all fairness, I just woke up, so maybe I don't fully see what portion of the commentary you're responding to as I'm not about to watch the full cartoon/commentary again just to get the full context of your reply). . Whatever it is you're trying to say, I'm sorry if I missed your point, appreciate the comment and thanks for watching! . - trevor.

@@TheLooneyTunesCritic Wrong. Look up links at Getty and TVTropes. Disney was doing it in the Thirties...recycling cels. Why in hell would they up and quit, Disney OR Warner? They wouldn't. Second, I never said anything about WHEN Pink Panther broadcast...only that it looked similar.
