Nice work! Although I would bore a hole in that ferrule to remove end mass. Otherwise it might creat some deflection and defeat the purpose of the light weight cf shaft

Nice work, recently I did two 314- shafts, very similar. Both had cracked all the way through the original ferrule/tenons. I did drill out a little center weight from the new ferrule/tenon piece, so far customers happy. I've wondered about the sanding on carbon fiber, read your comment below. I've lightly sanded on one to polish back out and all came out nice. Keep up the good work.

Your machine is shaking and vibrating all the time. How precise should that be? The drill was off center when the remains were drilled out. Was it the drill itself or the tailstock of the lathe? Otherwise the video was very good. Keep the Work going.
@arsbilliards Жыл бұрын
sorry about the shaking I still haven't gotten around to mounting the lathe to my workbench 😅Also I got a new set of drill bits. The ones I used in the video were not the most precise. I try to be as precise as I can by using a 4 jaw independent chuck and I get the runout to less than 2 thousands. Thanks for the comment 😁

Hi! I always watch your videos. I need some advice regarding my ferrule not totally leveled on tip part. Should i change the whole ferrule or just cut out the un even part? Thank you!

Depends how much you have to cut off and if you are ok with having a slightly shorter cue. Changing the ferrule is a lot more work than just cutting it shorter.

Hi, great vid,. I'm going to ask what might be a stupid question, but I'm trying to learn :) Why has this been done? Was there something wrong with the original ferrule? Is the replacement better in some way? What is the customer and/or you hoping to achieve? Thanks

@arsbilliards Жыл бұрын
Its preference
@mattevans16437 ай бұрын
Most players still shape their tip to a dime radius. Also diameter of the tip plays a factor in the apperance. I have a 13mm that looks almost flat, a 12.2mm that is slightky rounded, and a 10.5mm that looks like a cone. All shaped to a dime. It's kinda funny.

How come you use a metal lathe to do most of the work then swap over to the cue lathe to finish? Is there a reason or can you not be bothered swapping the tooling? Cheers.
@arsbilliards Жыл бұрын
I don't have a tip shaping tool for my metal lathe yet and I can also fit the whole shaft on the cue lathe. That makes it easier to clean and polish it up. 😁

Cheers for messaging back. I’m after some knowledge, I’m wanting to buy a lathe to start replacing tips,ferrules and maybe joints. My problem is I’m in New Zealand and there’s no cue smith’s to ask advice. Can I get away with just buying a metal lathe with a 38mm spindle bore? What bed length is yours?If I buy a proper pool cue lathe from the states and get it sent over it’s close to the price of buying a metal lathe and I still don’t know if it will work as we are 240 volt and 50 Hz. Any advice is very appreciated

Nah you took too much foam from the inside when drilling. ALSO, you sanded the cf shaft when sanding the ferrule!! Carbon should not be sanded at all costs Please understand that cf is not as wood and it can not be sanded nor be treated with chemical solutions except for alcohol.
@arsbilliards Жыл бұрын
@@noxdomeisi529 I deal with carbon fiber shafts every day. They can be sanded and polished back to normal. The only reason people think otherwise is because of the warnings that cue company's have put out there. So people don't hand sand to make the shaft smooth again like you can with maple.
