Unfortunately the shaft is still making noise but it is toward the joint. The ferrule area is not making anyone. The shaft doesn’t make noise when you it’s by itself only when mated to the butt. I’m thinking it’s the g10 pin on the cue. G10 is notorious for making noise when tightening and the do not lock up like metal pins. When the cue is dropped on angle it makes noise. I know 100% it’s not the shaft. I rattled the shaft, tapped the shaft on my table and they placed it on another cue and no noise. The joints are rubbing when dropped on an angle because g10 flexes unlike metal pins. We all know g10 is strong and has great tensile strength but we also know they flex more than metal. Not to suggest he did something wrong we all do. No one can fixed everything that can break without some testing. Especially with anything new or the latest product because info is not available. If you know you know if you don't you don't. If I noticed the existing ferrule was the same as the new ferrule I think I would have tried making the noise without the new ferrule installed. It may have had the same problem. Such as the epoxy not bonding to the ferrule or shaft. I've seen it before. Age or chemical degradation can attack the surface releasing the bond. But that seems unlikely being that they never mentioned if the sound was there from day one. GM and Ford have had paint not bonding or aluminum degrading causing the paint issues. You had to start over from bare metal(even replaced panels) to prevent it happening again. As a technician I've learned to check that possibilty for certain repairs. I'd have poked the foam for any movement and did a few bounces just to be sure(was 'just' the shaft bounced?) . It sucks having done the work and it still has a noise believe me I know. I've done it a thousand times and it's not like he could have tightened a bolt or screw at the ferrule.and the joint would have had to been tight if it was joined. That only leaves what's between. I understand his disappointment though very much.

Hi , great channel and videos 👍 . Thanks for any advice on the following problem i have 😊. I like to do things mysrlf and am thrifty . I bought a carbon fiber cue from Temu . It had a very hard tip on it and my stroke is not good enough for a tip that hard . I always change my own tips. Installing a medium Elk Master , Super Glue does not bond with the shaft . No ferrel on the shaft . Is there an epoxy that anybody knows of that i should try ? Thanks again
@playpool12fyaoАй бұрын
@@RodgerMyers I never heard anyone using epoxy for installing a tip. I heard of contact cement. Does the shaft have a valve plate, a thin material. I would make sure that vault plate is really clean. Also I would use some thin superglue on the tip make sure the tip wicks the super glue then use a thick gel type of super glue. Hope this helps and thank you for commenting.

Excellent workmanship as per usual. I noticed when you were removing the old T34 ferrule that you did not remove it all and only went an inch deep. I was concerned about this and thought that if the ferrule was loose then it made some sense that all the T34 material may be loose including what you left behind. This may not be true but also may be true. Don't eliminate this as a possible reason for the noise. As you and I both know, noise can be thought to be where it is not. It may still be at the tip even though listening makes you think it is at the joint. Switching to a different thought about the shaft, all that T34 material protruding down into the shaft really bothers me. All this weight will really shorten the Pivot point performance characteristics of the shaft. Predator shafts claim to have a 19 inch pivot point and when tested this is roughly correct. This is what makes them a true low deflection shaft. It maximizes Shaft Deflection which minimizes Cue Ball Deflection. I am also familiar with Jacoby Black shafts and when I test their pivot point it is around 14 to 15 inches. This is about the same as many regular pro taper wooden shafts. This makes them similar to what a lot of people are already used to. Back to the South East Shaft, the carbon fiber wall thickness is not known at this time but assuming this to be close to other shafts I deduce that adding all that T34 weight instead of foam is really shortening the pivot point performance of the shaft. I would guess that before you fixed it, it may have had a very short pivot point of around 10 or 11 inches. This would not be what most parallel players would really want since true Parallel English likes a longer pivot point shaft like the Predators. That is the reason for Predators 19 inch. The Jacoby Blacks 14 inch is probably only so they can match the regular Pro Taper wooden shaft and this way people used to a standard Pro Taper wooden shaft will be comfortable with the Jacoby Black over the Predator. Is the South East carbon fiber shaft actually around 10 or 11 inches and if so, this would not be desirable for most players as it will have far more deflective characteristics and be very hard for Parallel English style of play but for true Back Hand English it would be very responsive. 19 inch is best for Parallel Style and Less is better for Back Hand (Pivot English) Style. I do not think any shaft on the market has been built to have the characteristics that promote Back Hand English style of play. I had to make my own which at present is 11 inches but this is not a good shaft for Parallel English style. Your quality is excellent and your efforts are obviously intending to maintain quality in your products. You most likely maintained the original playing characteristics of the shaft while I am suspect of those original characteristics, not your work.

@@playpool12fyao That is good trouble shooting on your part. I will make a shaft with any joint style required by the customer but when I make a full cue I only make one joint style., 5/16 x 14. This style is around forever and proven friendly and stays tight. Uniloc is the worst as far as I am concerned, players are always making sure they are tight and they have very little room for adjustment. Other threads that have wood thread are weak and wear out over time. I can't tell you how many shafts I have had to replace the wood thread at the bottom. All these different pin styles really make no difference to the performance of the cue they are just makers trying to be different saying this new difference is better. Keep it simple. The only place I like a quick joint such as the bullet joint is for an extension on the bottom of the cue. The big thing that affects cue performance at the joint is how the two flats meet, the pin and thread do not help the straight line energy transfer of a cue across the joint. I met a cue maker that developed a joint style where the shaft wedged into the butt instead of two flat surfaces. The shaft had a cone at the end that wedged inside the same internal cone in the butt. I quickly informed him that the energy will trying to open the wedge and over time the joint will start cracking. These cues where beautifully made inlays etc but his thought process about the joint was simply trying to be different. He praised this new joint he invented as the next great innovation. I explained the weakness of energy wanting to expand out to the side and eventually crack and try to open the butt end and I have never seen this joint again since. That was 20 years ago.

Awesome, I only do 3/8 10 and radial because that’s the only taps I have. For the shafts, I insert the linen as a ring decoration and so it’s not just metal to wood. Most of the carbon now are built the same way. Also I’m learning how to make shafts. I am doing research on cnc and just got a small desk top cnc so I can mess around with CAM and design a taper. Once I feel comfortable I plan to build a cnc to taper shaft. I totally agree with you about pins on cues. I can tell the pin size or what kind of metal the pin is. I can tell if it’s a g10 but not the thread. Like I said g10 doesn’t really tighten and they are flexible. The shaft vibrates more when tapping it on the side. I like brass pins just because of the weight. It makes the cue front heavy and that’s the way I like my cues. I have to use aluminum only to redo the weight to the cue but other than that the cue hits the same. Balance point are different with different metals of the same pin but the sound and feel of the hit is the same. Thank you again for commenting. I learn a lot from your comments.

Hey! I'm in dire need of some advice on my slightly scratched Predator Revo shaft. What would you do if it had light visible micro scratches like the one shown at 19:20? They annoy me when playing since the reflection differs from the rest of the shaft. Thank you!
@playpool12fyao4 ай бұрын
I would try using Q Wax to see if the scratches will dull away. Just from regular use, carbon shaft tends to dull and get darker. Use a leather pad with Q Wax and try to varnish it. Normally varnishing things shine things up but for carbon, it mays it darker. Hope this helps and thank you for commenting.

Out of curiosity why do you choose to go with a separate tenon on CF shafts? I usually make the ferrule / tenon in 1 piece. Typically with Tomahawk. More like a plug you see on Cynergy shafts or the vault plate on Revos. For me it feels like it will hold up better due to the shoulder being up against the shaft and not just relying on the epoxy bond. Nice vides been following for a while.
@playpool12fyao Жыл бұрын
The tenon is a “one piece.” I used the tomahawk as a visual aid and to keep the same length. I used the g10 which I feel it is stronger than the tomahawk. The original tomahawk seems like it had stress fracture. Thank you for following and commenting.

I like to do the ferrules first just in case I have to sand them to flush against the shaft. I use to do it with the the tip on and I found out something the g 10 is not the same diameter as the shaft and with the tip on it, when sanding the tip would get hot and the glue on the tip and the glue bonding the tip to the g10 would fail and debond. @playpool12fyao7 ай бұрын
I would not worry about it unless it’s a crack. With that saying, its difficult to crack carbon fiber unless you hit it in the right place. I know someone with a big gouge in his revo, you can feel the gouge when running your hand on the shaft but it doesn’t affect his play at all. I would just keep an eye on it, if it doesn’t affect your play don’t worry about it. Also in time it might buff out when you clean your shaft. Hope this helps and thank you for commenting again.
