Hey Gardeners! I'd like to show you the fertilizers I use in our gardens, on annuals, roses and other blooming plants. They are quite versatile, and I've used them for years. Alaska brand Morbloom and Fish Emulsion.
Alaska brand Morbloom and Fish Fertilizers are naturally sourced and do a great job of keeping plants healthy and blooming. In this video I demonstrate when and how to use them.

I just bought a gallon of the fish fertilizer. I really don't mind the smell. I took a big whiff of it. And it was awesome. The smell let me know that all that sludge is a bunch of pulverized fish and fish guts. Excellent stuff. Of course plants are gonna love it. I actually expected it to be worse because of what I've read online. It's really not that bad.

Fish emulsion brings in the wild life critters raccoons, dogs, and cats in the neighborhood. I just use miracle grow at half dose every week roughly. Gypsum is cheap contains calcium and magnesium so I add that to the soil every spring. Miracle gro isn’t going to kill soil microbes that’s a myth for all you hard core organic gardeners. I used to be strictly organic for about 20 years. My mother bought big boxes of Miracle gro at Costco. She gave me 2 boxes. Great thing is that it doesn’t expire. Used to use miracle grow when I got out of the army starting a garden not really knowing anything. It was fun learning as I go. Kinda care free. I’m done with the strictly organic stuff. What ever people do the point is to enjoy yourself and have fun no matter organic or not.

To each their own. Personally I don't like Miracle Gro; the products or the company, so I choose not to purchase them. You are right that fish emulsion is very attractive to curious critters. I had one client where we couldn't use it because her dog kept digging in her roses to find that fascinating smell!

Lol true, there’s this unnecessarily close minded stigma around synthetic fertilizers in the garden community. If used as directed it does 0 harm to the soil or its microbiome. Even better when you combine both organic and synthetic

Hi! I thought i couldn’t wet the leaves of roses- only water at the base. Is this an exception for fertilization only? Thanks for all your help 💜
@GardenUPLandscape
@GardenUPLandscape Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't call it an exception per say. Not wetting the leaves is to keep them from getting powdery mildew, black spot and other, mostly fungal, pathogens. Those diseases are exacerbated in cool, damp environments, so wet leaves, too much shade or poor pruning that reduces air flow all contribute to unhealthy roses. But if your roses are planted in the right place (good soil and full sun), are pruned properly so they get good airflow through the leaves and they don't have sprinklers running after dark and water sitting on the leaves all night, then they should be generally healthy. In that case, pouring fertilizer on the leaves should not hurt them, and the plant will take in the nutrients faster dermally.

I'm using the fish fertilizer on my orange tree. Do I continue to water it in between those 2 to 3 weeks or do I just use the fish fertilizer as the exclusive watering.
@GardenUPLandscape
@GardenUPLandscape 5 ай бұрын
Water as usual. Just add the fish to a regularly scheduled water every 2 to 3 weeks. The tree should continue to get the same amount of water.

Yeah, I tend to avoid using fish when there are critters around, especially if a client has dogs. You can use Morbloom but they are different formulas for completely different things. Fish is all Nitrogen, Morbloom is Phosphorus and Potassium.

@@cutflower36just get Miracle gro use at half dose. No horrible fish smell especially on your hands, clothes, or shoes. Apply some gypsum around the plants in the spring it’s cheap to.

I was surprised at how thin the more bloom was. I thought I got a bad bottle. It is like really weak iced tea. I was expecting a gloppy mixture like the fish fertilizer. I tried to email Alaska fish fertilizer, but the email failed. I tried calling them and the phone # wasn't in service.

Nope, the Morbloom is a lot thinner than the Fish. It does look like a weak tea! Doesn't smell like than though LOL

Quick question : I just bought a Bottle of the Alaska Morbloom for the fist time. It comes out of the bottle like water, as opposed to the heavy, dark fish fertilizer. Is that normal or did someone refill a bottle with water and return it ??? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Can you use the Fish emulsion on hostas and evergreens
@GardenUPLandscape
@GardenUPLandscape 11 ай бұрын
Sure! You can use it on anything that might need extra nitrogen. It will soon be a bit late in the year for those plants though. Applying nitrogen will encourage new growth, and if they are still growing then they may not go dormant in time for winter. So apply ASAP or wait until spring.

Were they planted in the ground or in pots? Sometime root restriction can stop or stunt growth like that, so if they were in pots then try potting up :)

I have never had issues with it. There are many different things that interact with what you are using. The P.H. levels of phosphorus and potassium already In your soil and tea. You didn't use it correctly for your grow.
@GardenUPLandscape
@GardenUPLandscape 6 күн бұрын
What makes you say I didn't use it correctly? I don't make compost tea. I have nothing against the idea, I just don't have the time to make it.

LOL yes, that's what I used to call it! Then someone corrected me that fish emulsion doesn't actually have poop in it. I was really surprised, I thought that's all it was. But it's actually all the other leftovers from fish processing, the only poop is what's still in their intestines.
