Festival Alleluia James Chepponis with Philip Stopford

On November 18, 2012, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia held an Archdiocesan Choral Festival and Blessing/Convocation for all the parish choirs and musicians in the Archdiocese. There were over 200 singers from all around Philadelphia, including me and many members from the choir at my parish, The Church of St. Andrew in Newtown. It was fantastic, but especially wonderful as the Archdiocese hired a guest conductor - Philip Stopford, who is a very successful and important contemporary composer of sacred Christian music. Here we are singing James Chepponis' Festival Alleluia.

Omgosh...I remember being a part of this. It was so fun and beautiful to sing with Philip Stopford. Also, fun to see my husband and kids in the video.

I am totally in love with the music of Philip Stopford. He is a gem in the liturgical music world of the Church. As a parish music director, I am incorporating more and more of his music. He brings such dignity and class to the liturgical composition world.

Lovely. But why are all cantors in the RC Church women and why do they all sound like the same voice?

They aren’t all women, although I agree they are probably at least 65%. And they are chosen for clear, steady voices with resonance and minimal vibrato
