Festival No.6 presents the Brythoniaid Male Voice Choir - 'Blue Monday'

To celebrate New Order headlining the first year of the UK's newest festival, the Brythoniaid Male Voice Choir were commissioned by Festival No.6 to record their own unique version of Blue Monday. The 60 members of the Brythoniaid Male Voice Choir, formed in 1964 in Blaenau Ffestiniog, recorded their interpretation of the seminal track in the studio, then filmed the video on location at the stunning Portmeirion, location for Festival No.6 . Surely the most unique setting for a festival the UK has ever seen?

Most of these men look like they are in their 40s/50s/60s Blue Monday originally came out in 1983... nearly 30 years ago!!! So these men were in their teens/20s/30s when it came out They are the age group who originally bought it... they probably all have the original 12" single at home :)

I saw these guys art the No 6 festival. My cousin who who manages bands said it was the second best gig he had ever seen. I forget what was the best gig but whatever it was a busting night in N Wales.

Saw these guys perform this on Sunday night at No.6 last year. Genuinely one of the most moving, brilliant and awe-inspiring performances I have seen in 10 years+ of festivals. The awed silence of (I reckon) c.3000 people as the songs were sung was so much more powerful than the noise of a full stage. And the look on the faces of the singers when the huge roar came after each song was priceless. Can't wait for this year!

I always thought the outro on the original, with synthesised chorus (like ELO’s Mister Blue Sky, or the over-dubbed voices on Dear Prudence), created an air of operatic drama and impending doom- but this is the real deal! Wow!

Sorry mate in retrospect that was uncalled for and I hope you made a full and speedy recovery. My comment was more about the lyricist of this song who often seems to be reading his own lyrics off a monitor when playing live. Welsh male voice choirs are of course magnificent. One of my favourite collaborations involving a Welsh male voice choir is Lady Boston by The Good the Bad and the Queen. Fantastic song. All the best.
