I miss my dad...he was awesome, a school teacher then a principal..my mom was also a teacher. He restored two 250-350 year old houses to earn enough to build the house he designed. He could fix anything-cars, wiring, plumbing etc. He was a reader and loved crosswords. After my mom passed, my dad would call me about a word, solve the clue, how is it. He only went to church once a year, for the candlelight service (mostly singing) but he maintained the funky old parsonage for over 20 years. If the phone rang in the night, he would go out to help anyone...burst pipes, chimney needs cleaning, somebody needing a ride to the hospital- 40 minutes round trip and then get up at 6:00 a.m. whether he'd slept or not, shave, put on his suit and drive an hour to the school where he taught. He was an actor and a singer- though he theoretically did 5 yrs in France during WWII, he was entertaining troops all over the world, sometimes with Bob Hope. He acted in numerous movies that were filmed in New England with well known stars such as Dorris Day and Andy Griffith. He taught me 100's. of songs, both to read the music and remember the lyrics. I have serious memory loss because all those lyrics and the 100's I've learned since have pushed everything else out my ears. He took me to many Broadway shows- my favorite was Mary Martin playing Peter Pan. Pygmalion, Cabaret, sound of music and many more- we also went to see Better Midler at Radio City Music Hall and the Rockettes were rocking. My dad passed at home, at the age of 84, 20 years ago come August. When my dad died it was as if the library burned down. Born and raised on Beacon Hill in Boston- 7 boys and 1 girl, Virginia, who died of the Spanish Influenza in 1918. His dad and eldest brother were in WW1 and WWII; his dad, being a structural engineer was not around much. I miss my dad every minute of every day and feel blessed for the time we had together and the things he taught me. And I listened and learned and now I am old, but I'm happy........🤔🤗🙂😏

Kennydida the cat Do your research American. My Brother and nephews are and were over there, information way over your belief process, sorry your not american, but not all are violent it’s just sad the minute some Muslim factions are faced with threats they give in and side with violence. That’s all I’m saying. And for all those who believe in nothing which is your choice, cant possible celebrate Christmas, or any semblance of spirituality. I’ve always taught my kids with spirit you won’t die a coward because strength only lasts until you cannot walk or move, or until someone takes those privileges from you violently. Let’s stick to music ok !😉 Thanks Cat!

Does your "understanding of the world" really include supporting death sentences against people doing nothing more than exercising their most basic human right of free speech? I seriously doubt it.
@blackmore4
@blackmore4 6 жыл бұрын
Oh no, we're here to stay. Those of us who feel a simple public apology to Salman Rushdie is really not too much to ask of a man who continues to sing 'Peace Train'. How hard could a categorical condemnation of death sentences upon those guilty of nothing more than exercising their basic human right to free speech actually be for someone who sings such a song? Until he does these things, his repulsive hypocrisy will continue to be trumpeted everywhere he goes.
@simoncumming1578
@simoncumming1578 6 жыл бұрын
You should base your criticism more on fact rather than relying upon media hype.After the publication of Rushdie's novel The Satanic Verses, Yusuf Islam, previously known as Cat Stevens, made statements that were interpreted as endorsing the killing of Rushdie. His statements generated criticism from commentators in the West. In response, Yusuf Islam said that some of his comments were "stupid and offensive jokes" made in "bad taste,"[1] while others were merely giving his interpretation of Islamic law but not advocating any action.[2][3] Yusuf Islam also said that later in the same programme he promised to accept the judgment of a British court if it found Rushdie innocent of any crime, blasphemy or otherwise.[1]

Don't tell your grandson that Stevens still hasn't apologised to Rushdie though... or that he hasn't categorically condemned death sentences upon those who've done absolutely nothing except express their most basic human right to free speech. Actually, just thinking of him singing songs like 'Peace Train', on second thoughts, you should. They'll totally understand the meaning of hypocrisy.

In his heyday he could bring a guitar and a stool and with only a little help, entertain a huge venue on Friday night, then fill it again on Saturday. No need for a huge band or laser light show. It's a testament to the impact of his music that he could walk away from music for decades and come back to cheering crowds.

@Stephen Palm Jesus never claimed Divinity... John 14:6 is referring to that Jesus and God they are 1 in propose.. If Jesus is God he would have been very clear about it. He would have said "I am God"... Yet there is not a single statement in all the Biblical version in which Jesus says it. And listen to Cat Steve revert story to Islam. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ine8YqtsfrRoiZI Listen to. Jesus at the last supper he said "Shalom Alikum" which means peace be upon you. Thats the Islamic greeting Jesus fasted. Jesus prayed If Jesus is God to whom is he praying?. Ever hear of God praying to God? You know the answer..

Both parents are gone but still with me. My oldest brother also is gone. The one thing that stays with me was what my father asked to do before he died and that was take me home. This song reminds me of his desire to return home. I have my kids and grandkids not to mention my wife. They keep me happy, but I do miss my Mom and dad.

Cat Stevens helped me appreciate my Catholic religion.. I had always loved Morning has Broken when I heard it in church as a child.. then teenage age years hit and I started questioning everything ..until I heard Cat sing the tune. Now when I sing it in church, I do it with Cat's style. Thanks, Yusuf !

I love his wearing a Cat Stevens T-shirt. Seems to me like a gentle statement of reconciliation, of acceptance. I only bought one Cat Stevens album, Tea for the Tillerman. Didn’t buy any others because I didn’t want to detract from that one. I gave it away to a very good friend who lost her copy but 50 years later I still remember practically every word and every chord of every song. She is still a very good friend.

It was 1972 when I experienced this wonderful song by this magical artist. I was in the US Military stationed on an small island nation in the Eastern Mediterranean. I remember me and my mates would sit around listening to this song as well as his others, and divulge to each other our issues with our dads prior to enlisting. This song, we agreed, described exactly how our conversations went with them. But by the end of the song and hearing its heartfelt dialogue, we each couldn’t deny how much we missed our fathers and how much closer we felt toward them even in our absence. At the time we were in our early 20’s and I know most of us returned home to our fathers with a greater appreciation of the father-son relationship. And I’m sure the lessons learned in Cat’s song made us better sons and in turn better fathers in years that followed. A tribute to the power of this song.
