Came here via Keith Brown so makers giving each other a shout out if they see something they like is fantastic for us as viewers. This is a brilliant idea and will push me into getting hold of a proper mft bench top.

Hi, I'm Pete for Western Australia and got to your channel from Keith Brown's. I was so impressed with your idea that I popped down to Bunnings today, bought some 16mm dowel, 20mm conduit and some 25mm conduit (as much cheaper than collars) - only difference is that I used PVC cement to stick it all together. They work great!

Mark, yet another blindingly simple solution! As you say, bench dogs are mega-bucks for what they are. I bought some 3D printed jobbies, but have had to sand them down as they are say too tight out of the box. With your solution, once again, we have something that's practical, cheap and very easy. Thanks again for sharing!👍

Hi Mark, came here from Keith Brown’s latest video. This is a great idea, I too discovered this fits dog holes last year, but I’ve used it to locate & hold the small router table I made and my pocket hole jig in place on my MFT table, works a treat 👍.

May I ask a question. Do the dog holes have to be 20mm ? why 20 mm ? What if I used copper pipe and soldered on a collar, I could then just machine the holes to match the exact diameter of the copper or any other pipe size I choose.
@smallspacecreation57682 жыл бұрын
The holes can be any size you want it is just that all the MFT tops commercially available all have 20 mm holes. If you drill the holes yourself tricky to get them all perfectly square with one another Hope that helps thanks for watching 👍👍
@johnparker263611 ай бұрын
Brilliant idea. if you just want to stop the pipe falling through the hole you could cut down a length of pipe to give a C shape and push that over the pipe.

I've just measured the 20mm pipe and it's actual size is 19.7-19.8mm, so it may be a bit loose if your holes are slightly bigger than 20mm (eg if you've routed/hand drilled them yourself). I checked the 20mm dogs that came with my router guide and they are exactly 20mm and are snug fit in the same hole. Digital calipers from lidl, so unlikely to be hugely accurate, but the spec sheet from Profix has them as 20mm OD with -0.3 tolerance, so it's likely to be correct. Not sure if this is relevant for anyone , but might be of interest.
@smallspacecreation57683 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to measure them. I am wounding if it is down to different brands of conduit. My one are so tight in the holes if they where any tighter you won’t get them in hopefully you can see on video there is no movement. Has any one else tried 20 mm conduit in dog holes? Mark
@wsurfa3 жыл бұрын
@@smallspacecreation5768 I've got a length of black 20mm left over from some wiring that I'll check tonight - also profix from Toolstation. I'd guess the batch tolerance is 'upto 0.3mm under 20mm' so you might get anything from 19.7mm-20.00mm, but never over 20.00mm?
@smallspacecreation57683 жыл бұрын
Be interesting to see what the your Tool Station stuff measures as that is what I used in video
@wsurfa3 жыл бұрын
@@smallspacecreation5768 The toolstation stuff, both black & white, measures 19.75mm. I've got some older thinner walled 20mm pipe from Screwfix, that's c19.85mm. Inside diameter 15.8mm, as per spec sheet.
@smallspacecreation57683 жыл бұрын
Thanks for measuring it as it’s so cheap there maybe a tolerance in it all I can say is it is really tight in my holes any bigger it wouldn’t go in
