Very informative and the footage illustrates how difficult the conditions were during the storm with large trees up rooted. Heartening to hear that as ever there is a clear plan and the festive services will be able to run.

On the good side of things... you will now have plenty of firewood for the log burners over the next few years.😂 Great effort on the clear up guys!

Amazing damage. Is the Railway Co. accepting donations toward the additional clean-up costs?

Wow! It seems at least that none of the railway's structures were damaged so a bit of good luck there.

You can't keep good Welshmen down, unlike the bloody trees. You always get these problems with branch lines.

That's kinda a normal spring moment on our railway, get the gang out and think of all the light up wood you've got.

Sad to see so many fallen trees blocking the line at a peak time of year. I don't know about Wales exactly but I suppose that, if the trees have fallen on Ffestiniog/WHR property, It's the railways property? If I had the ways and means I'd come and help. Make sure there's plenty firewood for the Railway next year.

Doesn't the responsibility and cost of fixing the tree damage fall on the landowner who owns the trees? This could save you a lot of money
@notverydeep9726Күн бұрын
No - in most cases it doesn't. Damage caused by trees is not treated the same way as damage in car accidents. In England and Wales (I don't know if this applies in Scotland) you have to claim from your own insurance, even if a tree falls from a neighbour's property and causes damage. For example, if a neighbour's tree falls on your garden shed and destroys it, you would not be able to claim from them / their insurance unless you could show that they were negligent in their management of their tree. In reality proving that is very difficult - unless for example you could show that the tree was visibly in a very poor state prior to falling over. Technically the wood remains their property! One of my trees did fall over in a storm a few years ago and wrecked my neighbour's shed, but I had already had it reduced in height at the advice of a tree surgeon to reduce the risk of it failing and could demonstrate that I had taken reasonable (though ultimately unsuccessful) steps to address the risk. However, they are happy with their replacement garden room!

It was a storm, act of god defence would come in. Also, clearing trees to a point so far back they wouldn't do any damage at all would cause more damage to the landscape in general than any to the railway.

The fallen trees, were they rooted on your land, if not they're not yours to deal with.

Can you imagine trying to locate the "owner" of each tree and then getting him/her to organise a clean-up gang for each tree?
