You´re doing a great job, I really appreciate your videos! However I have to point out one big MISTAKE in this video with the blood mixing. I checked out some anatomy and physiology books and this is how it works: So as you said from umbilical vein one part of the blood goes to liver and the other part goes through ductus venosus straight to Inferior Vena Cava (IVC). Here the oxygenated blood from umbilical vein mixes with deoxygenated blood in IVC and in the result the blood is now 67% oxygenated. Now we get to the important part. IVC a SVC (superior vena cava) meet in the right atrium. However the blood does NOT mix in the right atrium (or it does just a little bit) and this is because of the laminar flow of blood (both in IVC and SVC). So from IVC the blood (67% oxygenated) goes through foramen ovale straight to left atrium and eventually to left ventricle and aorta ...and from SVC the blood (deoxygenated) goes to right ventricle, than to pulmonary artery and eventually most of it goes through ductus arteriosus to DESCENDING part of aorta, where it mixes with the 67% oxygenated blood creating 60% oxygenated blood But why is this so important? Brain requires greater amount of oxygen for proper development. And the arteries supplying brain and upper limbs come out of aortic arch before the 67% oxygenated blood (from IVC) mixes in descending part of aorta with deoxygenated blood (from SVC) making the 60% oxygenated blood which goes to lower limbs. I have tried my best to explain it, but if anyone didn´t understand and is interested in this please leave a comment
@almcc6416
@almcc6416 9 жыл бұрын
This is correct. The most oxygenated blood flows preferentially from IVC across the RA via FO to LA and onwards to the brain. less oxygenated blood from SVC flows preferentially to RV -> PA -> DA -> Aorta (beyond the right brachiocephalic artery and left common carotid supply to the brain) and then either to lower limbs or back to the placenta.

Great remark Emil Havranek, just becareful because you said ..."from SVC the blood (deoxygenated) goes to right ventricle, than to pulmonary artery and eventually most of it goes through ductus venosus to DESCENDING part of aorta, where it mixes" but it's ductus arteriosus, not venosus! I'm sure you just had a little slip! I just wanted to point it out for anyone else reading your otherwise very clear explanation :)
