The violin player, Johanna is a dedicated violin player in most of the songs. She sometimes plays Hurdy Gurdy.

I'm glad you liked the song. In Germany there are medieval markets, where they try to dress up the stands and everything around it medieval (with robes, etc.). At these markets, music groups like Feuerschwanz and Saltatio Mortis also play. In the tradition of the old minstrels, it's not just about music, but also about entertaining and involving people. That's why there's a lot of interaction with people, additional elements like the two fire artists, and why some of the songs are often kept a little simpler so people can get into it quickly. I think I'll prioritize something from Feuerschwanz again later (maybe I'll find a good live video by then), but for now I'd like to introduce a few more bands.

The two vocalists ("Hauptmann Feuerschwanz", the one with the chain coif, and "Hodi", or Ben Metzner as he is actually named) usually both sing in every song, but the approach differs. In some songs they will take turns, perhaps sing the chorus together, or perhaps one will be the lead singer and the other does background vocals. Both are the lead singer in one song or another. Basically what best fits the song, so there's some variety, which I think is nice.

The violin player Johanna (or, her actual name, Steffi) started playing the violin while she was still in school (school orchestra or something like that) and joined the band in 2005 when she was 18. So she does have some experience ;-) The violin was her grandfather's, and her mother had played it as well. One of her brothers is in another band, and I think I saw another brother of hers in the musician credits of some other project she was a part of. So it's a family thing apparently.

This is typical of their recent work. They call themselves medieval metal, essentially folk metal with a German flair. The guitarist Hans Platz generally plays in that style, sort of like older bands like the Scorpions. They're known for songs that are deceptively simple. It's not, say DragonForce, but its what it needs to be. They do have those 2 lead vocalists, it mostly depends on what's needed. The violinist does mostly stick to violin, and the other musicians typically play those instruments, though not necessarily in every song. Visually they're very much like this; I wouldn't call them a gimmick band so much as a niche band. Sabaton is similar in concept. Live they pretty much pull the same thing off, the 2 fire dancers are essentially non musical members, though one of them Jenny does occasionally play harp. She also produces all their videos and does work for other bands. Great reaction, great score!

@@HALberdier17 I know :-) Their former drummer also produced some of their videos (until 2020 or so), and in 2020 they started to work with a well-known music video director named Nikolaj Georgiew (who did the "Warriors of the World United" video and several other of the newer videos).

You saw all of the permanent members of the band in the video, eight in total: drummer, guitar player, bass player, violin player (occasionally she plays a hurdy-gurdy instead), the two vocalists who both also play instruments (one of them string instruments like Irish bouzouki or this novelty stringed helbard here, the other one flutes, whistles, bagpipes, jaw harp, bouzouki, you name it), plus the two performers/dancers (one of them occasionally playing the harp) who are also permanent members of the band.

Not gonna fanboy, but Hans Platz really is an exceptional guitarist, he very much can shred but he's got it figured out in pretty much every song to fit his part into it just so very fitting he's not overshadowing, still just doing enough to be memorable, love that guy. That said Ultima Nocte isn't my favorite but it's a good "party" song, not gonna change the world but great to have a fun time to.

Hey David, all people you saw here are permanent members of the band, even the ladys in the back. The original vocalist is "Hauptmann Feuerschwanz" (the guy in the chainmail), since a few years "Prinz Hodenherz" is the second singer and depending on the song, they sing both or just one of them. "Johanna" usuallly plays violin, but also Hurdy Gurdy and Prinz really can play the flute and bagpipes. The only fake instrument is the "bass", that's a joke they came on when they shot the video 😉 And that's the point, they are essentially a fun/party band and do not take themselves too serious. In fact, Hauptmann founded Feuerschwanz because in his opinion, the whole medieval/folk scene was too serious and so they were more of a parody in the early days, making fun songs about medieval times, knights and tournaments and often used lyrics with double meaning in a sexual way, even in the names of their stage characters: "Feuerschwanz" means fire tail, but "Schwanz" is also a slang word for dick. "Prinz Hodenherz" : "Hoden" are your family jewels, "Herz" is heart, in general a parody of King Richard "Lion Heart" of England. " And so on...😉If you want to see more of them, I would suggest "Memento Mori" or the party song "Metfest", which means mead fest, where you can also see some live shots. Greetings from Germany 🤘

As I understood it insome of these medieval inspired Metal Festivals like Spectakulum, where we have a lot of Bands like Saltatio Mortis, Feuerschwanz, Fersengold, Harley und die Pulweraffen. All these songs are simple songs, light songs so that no matter how drunk you are, you can still follow the musik and be part of the community. And in these circles being drunk, or like a joker/Harlekin/Clown having fun and fooling around is the norm. Like the Fasching celebration twice a year in germany where people get encouraged to let go of the serious demeanor for once and fool around (sadly underaged people also getting to drunk for their own good). They just made it their brand, so people can celebrate it more often ^^

There are Songs, in which Hodi (the Vocalist with the long Hiar) sing more and there are songs, in which Hauptmann (The Knight) sing more. And there are songs, in which is 50:50, for example this song. It seem, that Hodi is more in the front, but this seem only, because Hauptmann have the Bass in his hands and Hodi only a flute sometime. ;) And Hodi seem sometime more in the front because he is longer than Hauptmann. ;) 50:50 songs: Metfest, Dragostea din TEi (Coversong), Kampfzwerg, Sex is Muss Songs with Hodi in the front: Meister der Minne, Schubsetanz, Untot im Drachenboot, Methämmer, Krampus Songs with Hauptmann in the front: Herz eines Drachen, Memento Mori, das elfte Gebot, Im Bauch des Wals, Maleus Maleficarum, Skaldenmet And you have done reactions to 2 serious songs of them. But they have funny songs too. For example Methämmer, Meister der Minne, Schubsetanz, Ding, Sex is Muss. In the past they were a medivial comedy band. Then they have been seriouslier, but they have funny songs too now. And the funny is sometimes hidden in the lyrics. Check out Methämmer, it is a little bit older, but the video tell a funny story. It is one of my favorite songs. P.S. sorry for my english, i'm german ;)
