As her time is running out, he helps her unravel a powerful, haunting story of obsessive jealousy, an invisible danger, and the power of a mother’s love for her child.
Directed by award-winning Peruvian filmmaker Claudia Llosa, co-written with renowned Argentine author Samanta Schweblin.

Fever Dream, or Distancia de Rescate, by Samantha Schweblin is one of the creepiest novels I've read. Really pleasantly surprised to see they've made a film adaptation.
@mao4324

Film made no sense. If you can clarify, I would appreciate it. I know most films can't cover everything from the novels but while watching this, I had high hopes for a decent finish. I mean the father/husband shows up at the end, all he mentions is his wife. No talk of his daughter.
@user-fy9fr3bc7v
@user-fy9fr3bc7v Жыл бұрын
@@mao4324 *****SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN/READ***** At the end, Nina's father mentions that she is alive but 'different'. This implies she did indeed survive thanks to the same ritual as David. When David hides in the car, it is implied that Nina's soul, or part of it, has ended up inside David. This is made more overt in the book, with reference to 'a second pair of eyes' gazing from within David's eyes. However we cannot determine for sure that Nina is inside David. Perhaps when Nina's mum asks David to 'make sure Nina ends up close by', David somehow allows Nina to enter his body during the ritual. We also wonder, especially in the film, if Carola (David's mother) wanted this to happen, given her envy.

The film is about the soy crisis in Argentina, and essentially how Monsanto caused massive, widespread birth defects via chemicals used on the soy crops. The book is amazing, although equally vague. SPOILER IF SOMEONE HASN'T SEEN IT: . . . . . . There wasn't actually anything supernatural going on. David's brain burned from fever, and that's why he was kind of messed up. The key is the river, which was poisoned, and later the soy field that Amanda and Nina lay in. All those deformed kids are actual victims of the soy crops. Samanta Schweblin created Fever Dream as a surreal telling of this horrific (and current) chapter of Argentine history.

it is really a visually pleasing movie. great acting and cinematography. the movie tangibly creates a beautiful environment. but its confusing but it's supposed to be. it leaves you stumped and without answers but it's not rocket science. you can understand it if you think it thoroughly and place the time of events properly. it was an experience for me and I reccomend to watch it if you like slow burn, vague psychological thrillers.

WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW so as you can probably figure, the movie throughout is narrated by Amanda, the main character and David (carola's son). david urged Amanda to only stick to the important parts and focus. so basically what happens is that david gets some sort of infection by drinking water out of a lake, and do does the family's precious stallion. (this is showed in the movie). so in order to save his son, carola (David's mother) goes to a notorious woman who is known for her magical herbs which help people heal. carola takes her son there and the mysterious woman says in order to save david, she has to rip his soul in half, so that the body of david will stay but he will be completely different person. carola was desperate and she agreed. now david is entirely new person and alien even to his mother. so what happens is Nina (Amanda's daughter, who is shown throughout the movie) and Amanda herself gets somehow infected (probably when they visit the place where carola works (the pesticide company) so amanda sends up in a hospital and while shes there carola who seemed so friendly steals nina and takes her to the healer woman to save nina. it works. amanda wakes up and finds her self being dragged by david though a forest. (this is shown at the start of the movie). so david drags Amanda to the boat and across the river and Amanda feels her thread that connected her to nina snap and she dies. (this is fiction so just bear with me) then at the ending scenes it is shown that Amanda's husband comes to investigate his wife's death and asks David's father for insight. David's father says he cant help him. Amanda's husband states that something is wrong with his daughter (Nina) (clearly implying that the ripping of the soul worked as carola had intended) but Amanda's husband gets no help and drives off and the end.
