I've been intrigued by that line ever since the song entered my radar. I've read many interpretations of the lyric, and the one that seemed to match the music the best was "there's no sense communicatin'..." Since that's in the 1984 version (I assume '84 because of the DX7) it would have been an earlier version of the lyric that said "what we need's communication." Either way, love the song! I wonder how many other gems there are from Horfest during those early years, that may be sitting on demo tapes/CDs waiting to be discovered?

the most reasonable reason of length difference between versions is because of a rule where radio music could only be between 2-3 minutes long (that's why the original sample had a very specific time)
@ryanrudder2275Ай бұрын
was this a thing in Germany? I've never heard of this before and seems like a really short time limit.
@NutrilecheVencidaАй бұрын
@@ryanrudder2275 well, in the original record (BASF 4|1) most of those songs have that time limit
@ryanrudder2275Ай бұрын
@@NutrilecheVencida That may have just had to do more with cassette and 45 capacities at the time which held less space than CD's that would become the preferred medium a few years later. Also, I think some of it just had to do with the radio cutting songs for time in order to have consistent set lengths in between breaks. When I worked at a college radio station about 10 years ago. we would have breaks every 15 minutes to back announce tracks/ do promos and the sort. So having songs all around the same length would make one able to have roughly the same number of songs before each break, but this was never a requirement necessarily. Also, recording off the radio was more common at the time. So, occasionally radio stations would cut some length off songs to prevent listeners from bootlegging the full track.

This mix gave me the idea for an interesting way of making a song, where you record it, mix it down, do the entire process again, and combine the two to create a really interesting mix. The sounds, though they are different, work because it's the same song played slightly differently through the left and right speaker. The drum fills for example are different, but it works because each mix is panned to the oposite direction

The probable reason for the different lyrics between the versions is because they were taped at a decent time apart. Happens with a lot of songs, lyrics change and so ideas are thrown in or tossed out. I feel like the radio version was supposed to be the final version, due to there being the live performance recording that lines up with the radio version more than the newly found one. Probably wrong, but I think I’m at least right about the distance of time between recordings and creative changes being why they sound so slightly different. (I’m in the camp of loving the radio version slightly more, just because the tune, instruments and lyrics fit better… now that this new version clears up so many lyrics.)

One interesting change I noticed, is that the new version uses the same sus4 to major guitar strokes in the chorus as they do in the verse inbetween the lyrics. Example: "Take the comsequence of leaving" (Ta ta tada...). And then in the new chorus: "The sun will never shine" (Ta ta tada). In the old version, the ta ta tada was not played in the chorus also. But I like how it's actually played in the new one. Sounds good!

I feel like the radio versions lyrics flow better, and rightly so given the band confirmed it was the finished version. "There's no sent communication", "You're going somewhere", and "in the young and restless dreamer" make more sense than "What we need's communication", "blowin from somewhere", "time for young and restless dreamin", imo. The NDR/radio version still remains lost, but the radio station said they will do their best again to find it now that they know the official name of the song. In the mean time, FEX have said they will rerecord the song together and even produce a music video for it. I can't wait!

My guess for the half a tone difference on the older version is that either the motor on the recording device or one of the playback devices (either djs or bluue’s/the person who first posted this back in 2007) wasn’t calibrated properly, in my experience an improperly calibrated motor on a cassette player can make a subtle but noticeable difference in the pitch of what’s being played back, but by correcting the error this eliminates any doubt that we found the band
