Have you even slept since launch? I’ve been working OT all week, going to dedicate a couple days next week to give it a try. Living vicariously through your videos, thank you! I’m so glad I found your channel. I relocated and don’t have any friends into classic crpgs. Fallout 2, Baldurs Gate 2, NeverWinter, Might and Magic 6-8, some of my favs. Divinty 2 and POE2 were pretty amazing too, more recently. So excited for BG3.

Nice video, but some mistakes, to name a few: 1) The default racial speed in 5e is 30ft(roughly 9m) so the Dwarves are not really receiving a bonus, since their speed is slower than average. 2) Shield Dwarves are not necessarily the "to go" race for the frontline, because proficiency in medium/heavy armor is already given by classes like Fighter for example, its quite the contrary, shield dwarves are good for builds that usually wouldnt get those proficiencies from their class(Sorcerer, Wizard etc etc) so you can make an "armored mage" by using the Shield Dwarf and get those proficiencies from race instead. 3) Humans only get feats in 5e if you use the "variant human" subrace, but you then get only +1 to two ability scores instead of all six scores, also you gain another skill proficiency choice. 9:40 - fighters, etc. definitely don’t benefit from the shield dwarves’ extra armor proficiency because 1. You can’t just swap it out for another armor proficiency like you can with skills and tools, it doesn’t work like that, and last but absolutely MOST, those upfront classes already have those proficiencies and proficiencies of the same thing do not stack with each other.

Yea, I'm sure that's for someone who want to play a armored spell caster, since there is not more arcane spell failure rate anymore, but you need to have proficiency of that type of armor in order to cast spell while wearing armour. You can now play as a wizard in half-plate.

Great video. Glad you're showing off the game for those of us who won't participate in Early Access testing. I do wish the entry of the "Seldarine" drow included at least some reference to Eilistraee. Wizards mischaracterized her followers and killed her off in 4th edition, and her entry in the 5th edition Player's Handbook is so small. All of the D&D games I've been a part of have included drow, so I'm pretty invested in them at this point. I'm an old-school D&D player and have fond memories of Planescape and Spelljammer, so my perspective on this is probably different than a lot of newer fans. I miss some of the complexities those settings provided. I can't even express how happy I was to see the Illithid Nautiloid in the BG3 trailer.

6:00- Consider that you have to travel to the Underdark and fear of them as slavers and raiders, maybe NPC reaction mechanics purposes. Since they have Seldarine, maybe some NPC's (either Eilistraee worshippers who are persecuted for not trying to be backstabbing and murderous slavers, Jaraxle's mercenaries who have exiles among their ranks, or Harpers who have good relations with surface drows and even organized refugee communities for them) might react positively or negatively at the character.

@@Enwickote Have you seen the current "flight" mechanics (can be found on Ravens and Imps)... it's basically just super jump... which is really good but there isn't any hover speed... yet. Secondly Aasimar is an official race (technically twice (DMG and Volo's Guide to Monsters)) but there isn't (as far as I know) an official Avariel player race block yet :(

And only Protector Aasimar has actual temporal wings in "radiant soul", they probably made it to the finished game. Avariel though it's quite unlikely as you said they're not official in 5e... I have to say, and that's not minor AT ALL: Githyanki's Mage Hand is not like the cantrip, IT'S INVISIBLE. You may thing that's not important, but It very much is. You can shove someone at the start of the combat and the hand is going to still invisible until It attacks, it's a bonus shove action at range in combat until you break tour concentration, you can manipulate the scene (including the free shove action) without entering combat, and a lot of things that I am missing for sure. I'm currently playing a Githyanki Mage with medium armor and it's a lot of fun!

how many of the races will make it into the game you say, well if the modding comunity of DOS 2 is an indicator, all of them and then some. IF there are models in the game, then expect Goblins Full Orcs of many tribes Hobgoblins maybe even half-dragons of a sort. Considering how many fans D&D has and the standard set with DOS2 by Larian, this game either becomes the Next Devine or meets the Fate of the Red Baron in WW2 :) It's the only time I'll ever agree with Yoda on this "do or do not there is no try"

For any newbs that wonder how is it possible for elfs not to take bonus on charisma cause on Lotr they are charismatic (look at galadrien on elrod) , high elfs is a sub race that has indeed +2 on charisma. You can play as one in 3.5 edition

My guess would be that for Tieflings, they are both a popular race and they are in the "common races", not the "exotic races" group. And for drow my guess would be that while they're their own race in character selection, on the backend they probably share a lot of things with the other elves (similar to how they are a elf subrace in current edition) so just adding a few drow-specific dialogue options while making the elves probably made them quick to add. And since they're connected to the half-elves too it probably made more sense to complete them instead of going back to revisit it later when it would be time to add drow if they did it another way. half-orc will probably have to wait for if orcs get added and then share some dialogue/interactions with them so it makes sense they're not in yet. Gnomes missing is a bit odd though, guess it's just that they can't make everything at once so people will just have to make do with halflings until there's dev time for it. Not sure if "We plan to have many of X race in act 1, so prioritize making races accordingly" is taken into consideration too, making some races higher or lower priority if there's only a few or none of them so they can wait until later to be added.

Elves don't have trance? Drow don't have sunlight sensitivity? These both seem strange. Also Half-Elf seems like the best race now because they get a +2 and two +1s as well as a trait from their ancestors. In 5e you have to choose between the two +1s and the bloodline trait.

Drow = Superior dark vision + cantrip that lights the area. . . why give them things that work against each other? I see the half-elf, and know about half-orc, but are there other half races? why no half-dwarf? half-Tiefling? Half-Githyanki?

Because drow tend to have an innate spell called faerie fire, a source of advantage in an area caused by harmless colorful flames, but the actual spell isn't in the game yet or deemed OP by Larian as it is 1st level slot instead of a cantrip

I'm not a big fan of Fantasy RPG. I mean I played, Dragons Age, Skyrim, Spell Force. But I'm very intrigued by this game. However I feel like there is too much to know/learn. Does anyone know where I can find out what the different racial spells are for 3rd level? I know that Githyanki and Zariel Tieflings get Jump and that Seldarine Drow get Faerie Fire. Before anyone says look in the official books Zariel Tieflings don't get jump at 3rd level they get Searing Smite (cast at 2nd level) so there have been changes so the official books are effectively pointless from my perspective... If I don't get a response I will probably will level each of them up to see what they get... but if someone else has done that or if there is a place you can look that would be much easier. Thanks in Advance :)

It says *base* movement speed, not bonus movement speed. The video is misleading -- he kept saying that the base movement speed "increases" their speed. Even for the dwarf, he said that their base movement "increases [their speed] a little bit, so they're not moving quite as slow." Not quite as slow as what, exactly? In other words, there's nothing wrong with the way the game lists their speed (it's the same way the PHB does it, in fact), he just explained it really poorly.

I wouldn't expect to see dragonmarks or warforged in BG. Baldur's Gate, unlike the tabletop game, is linked to a specific setting (Forgotten Realms) in which those things don't exist.

Doubt it, from what I can tell they are only adding Races, Classes from the PHB and not all of them have been added yet. Aasimar were brought into by the source book VGM (Volo's Guide To Monsters). But there is always updates after the game is in full release so you never know.

@@azazel2596 Always glad to be of service! Don't worry though. I'm sure both will arrive eventually. Paladins are obviously a given since all classes from the Phb are confirmed. And Aasimar, being the celestial mirror to Tieflings, just seem so fitting with the whole Avernus thing and the role Tieflings seem to play in the story. In fact, given how thematically appropriate they seem, it honestly wouldn't surprise me too much if Aasimar might arrive before some Phb races like Dragonborn or maybe even Half-Orcs and/or Gnomes.

They said all PHB classes/races will be added, so Paladin confirmed. Aasimar are not a PHB race...but they added Tiefling AND Gith...so who the hell knows.

Also really weird that you talk about racial armor proficiencies being good for Fighters and the like. You get that Fighters already have those proficiencies, right? You don't get any benefit from a racial proficiency if you class already offers it. That racial feature becomes dead, null, irrelevant in that instance. A Githyanki's armor proficiencies are great on a Wizard, who would normally not be able to wear armor. They're absolutely meaningless on a Fighter. (This is not me angrily shouting about the video. Just trying to give examples to back-up something I saw as a flaw, that I wanted to bring to your attention. Hope I did not come across as rude. Thank you.)

Tony Kiev Most of the advice for D&D 5E translates to this game one-for-one. Fewer options here and Rangers have gotten a pretty substantial overhaul, but if you ever find yourself struggling with something build-wise, googling the tabletop equivalent should be helpful. Hell, 5E even has a limited version of the rules available for free, if I remember correctly. Could be handy if you find yourself wanting to look into the how and why stuff works like it does.

Yeah, welcome to 2020. A certain group of people looked at orcs and saw black people and then somehow had the balls to claim the game was what was racist. No more fun and interesting racial negatives in our fantasy game because I guess orcs, that somehow represent black people in the minds of people that totally aren't racist at all, should be just as intelligent as everyone else and apparently WoTC agrees.
