Casters are very strong in the dlc, right up until the final boss which is designed to never give you a breather. Which is why adding 40 virtual dex to a build is very helpful overall. Less frames stuck casting equals less frames dead.

I found this happening to myself a lot recently, and I think I'll still give credit to Fextralife for the kind of builds I make nowadays since I try to follow the formula he uses and attach the knowledge I've learned regarding items and what sort of "sets" of talismans work well depending on what I'm trying to accomplish. I had unintentionally created his Dark Paladin but had been focusing primarily on Golden Vow paired with different types of elemental grease depending on the boss' weaknesses.

A cool addition to mage builds (Assuming you want pure caster), is go 11 faith and 11 dexterity and them use a magic infused smithscript dagger. At 80 int, 10 str, 11 dex, 11 faith a magic smithscript dagger has 504 ar in the base game, which is pretty damn good for a free mid-range throw option, another option is Glintstone Kris as your favorite dagger that's actually a gun. Biggest advantage that Smithscript Dagger has is when enemies close in you can still roll backwards and throw + for longer ranges you do pretty good damage with piercing throw. Smithscript Dagger also saves on FP since you can stay at a pretty good range away from enemies and still just regular throw.

Fleeting microcosm being an actual black hole is easily my dream-spell as a person who always goes the mage route. There's even a particular image of a black hole that I use for lectures and presentations in my courses to which the spell looks nearly identical, so I'm all for it. Thanks for the build ideas! I was hyped to play the DLC and didn't remember what I was doing in my last playthrough before I stopped for awhile. Turns out, I was outside of Raya Lucaria Academy, not randomly exploring like I thought I was doing, but getting ready to fight Rennala because, guess what, I'm barely into my third playthrough. Spent the last week getting back to where one needs to be to go to the DLC area because I don't like skipping things. Ah well. More game. Have fun, folks!

I'm so glad you featured this build! I was so excited for the new sorceries, and my build is basically this alongside Impenetrable Thorns, with the Beloved Stardust Talisman or Radagon Icon for faster casting, as a boss or the environment will allow. Because some of the other spells have FTH requirements, I've actually got a 80 INT/60 FTH and am using the Staff of the Great Beyond, which is fantastic. Buff with Golden Vow and Blessing of the Erdtree using the Staff as a catalyst, then fire away!

Fell in love with the aesthetic of this so I adapted an int/dex build using the Sword of Night and Maternal Staff :) my main is super over leveled so I was able to spec into arcane and take my damage up to 414. The AoW of the sword is awesome!! I love this build sm, might be my final build I stick with!

I created a similar build I call it Longfinger Jones. it is an Int/Arc Rogue Mage (Arcane Trickstar) I use the new poison hand Fist weapon to give the opponent deadly poison and with the weapon + kingdrem of rot exultation you get an approx. 32% boost on close attacks AND magic attacks for 20 seconds. And after 30.sek you can poison IT again and I use the albenuric staff (for damage) and the finger staff for the boost. The magic is logically finger magic. and holy shit the build is awesom (expectly the black Hole Attack ).

This stats are for Level 150 but I put the Rest of the Level in Arcane. Talisman are Erdtree +2 8% more corsery damage ( forgot the Name ) Godfray Ikone Kingdret of rot exultation

I only got 385 sorcery scaling with the maternal staff instead of 414 🤨 Upgraded it to the max (25) and have 80 intelligence and 80 arcane. Does anybody else have this Problem? EDIT: There is also no Ash of War on it initially and it has other stat requirements.

Lmao, love the build, but my god, I'm sorry - Those High Cleric Robes? I feel like this is another Godskin Noble thing for me. That thing could give me +50 in every stat, Health and Mana regen and a free Ritual Sword/Shield effect, and I still wouldn't be caught dead wearing it 😂. I swear, this game either has the drippiest outfits you could find, and then 'Finger Robe' 😭

FROM really need to rethink INT/magic stuff. They neglect and mishandle it constantly. Like, there are only so many variations of "pew pew" or "aoe go bang" or "magic version of melee" you can have till it gets stale. And it has been stale and disapointing for a few games now :/

Kinda OT here, but I think they may have changed the Square Off, AOW. I just got it from Siofra, and there is no option for Keen scaling on it. Am I missing something? Seems like maybe they changed it with all of the other Dex buffs. Let me know if you can confirm, please. That is if you have time, I know you are busy as hell right now. Thanks. All the people saying the DLC is too hard should seriously consider making a mage build. Either pure mage like this one or mage/melee combo. It’s makes the entire game (especially bosses) so much easier. It’s essentially “easy mode” it almost feels like cheating lol.

The maternal staff is really good you can get the same scaling as lusats staff but you need to have 80 into arcane and intelligence so for most builds it’s not very good at all

This build is great. I did make a few edits based on my own gameplays: 1: Head- Silver Tear Mask. Easy 8 arcane points. 2: Spell- Impenetrable Thorns. Scales ridiculous with arcane. 3: Staff- Albinauric Staff. Great arcane and intellect scaling and synergizes with impenetrable thorns. 4: Weapon- Bloodfiend’s Fork with Cold affinity Ice Spear Ashe of war. Has inherent arcane scaling and cold affinity gives great magic scaling to the projectile. Additionally, cold debuff provides 20% more damage to targets. This does require 25 points into faith to use impenetrable thorns but gives you access to golden vow.

I had put my 150 caster away after killing Rellana and switched to my NG++ Strength/ faith bro because I was bored of playing with Sorceries. BUT I look forward to going back to my sorceress to try these out. Side note: My NG++ dude has been killing it with Dragon Incantations. I forgot how strong Rotten Breath and some of the other Dragon Spells were in the base game and they are no less powerful in the DLC. In fact, I switched to your Savage Slasher build, and between the Great Katana and Dragon Incantations I am just mowing down bosses. I'd love to see a refined Dragon Incantation build with a recommended weapon.

I want to see you try a Carian Thrusting Shield two-handing build. Here are the basics: Apply the AOW Blood Tax to recover chip damage from blocking. Since we're two-handing, the strongest scaling is with STR. Extra points can go to INT or DEX. The fighting arsenal against bosses involves guard-counters, L1+R1 (attacking while blocking), and the AOW. Against multiple enemies, the regular R2 does a good job cleaving a few of them. Stats: 60 VIG 40 END (we block and attack at the same time, meaning we need a LOT of stamina) 16 mind (you want fp that is close to a multiple of 14 for the AOW, another option is 21 mind) 50 STR 15 DEX (candidate for 30+) 15 INT (candidate for 30+) no FTH 10 ARC (candidate for 30+ because you're using Blood Tax) Talismans: Two headed turtle, erdtree's favor (for stamina). The other two slots are flexible. (you can have FP regen for more blood tax, increase defenses, rotten winged sword, enhance guard counters etc. depending on what you like the most in the possible playstyles the build allows) You can (and should) wear VERY heavy armor on this build. You fight while two-handing the shield. If your secondary stat is INT, you can buff the shield - but it is not necessary if the AOW is blood tax, as you will recoup the chip damage by using that. The shield SLAPS HARD. This build allows punishing bosses who have endless combos with guard counters, often breaking poise. You can swap to a Misericorde if you want a bigger punish. You need a HUGE amount of stamina to keep it up, but it's super strong against the DLC boss' hyper aggression. Lastly, the stats on the build allow you to try out other weapons such as dryleaf arts and beast claws, since those work with any affinity.

I'm using a int/faith build and sadly, the best staff still is the death staff and about the mage build, using the glinstone dagger with the spellblade set will hit more than the new spells for less FP and if you really need damage from range, death rancor would be the spell... again, sadly the new spells are bad

The finger spells are awesome. Ive been using them since I finished Ymir's quest and my build is similar to this one(Only higher level with 45 faith). Only ive added Ranni's dark moon and ,for simple ascetic reasons, have the staff of great beyond off hand equipped to cast Golden Vow or a heal if I feel like I need it. So much fun, especially doing coop.

build idea: check out the carian thrusting shield with one of the new messmer fire ashes of war. it scales well and i found it to be doing great damage, and it looked really sick with the fire knight armour. incantations on left hand that are all messmer fire also, it's great

Just beat this build's inspiration earlier today! Wonderful timing on someone's part XD I'd love to see a build focusing on some of the smithscript stuff. Not necessarily the throwing knives, though those are indeed really cool, but especially something breaking down their odd stat requirements for best results. OR, on a similar vein... The arrowhead-looking thing that's strength/arcane from the one Forge. I went in with a Dex/Arcane character so I'm not currently built for it, but as my level passes 200 I might come close..! I'd love to see your take on that weapon and what can be done with it.
