I've been trimming my hair using Feye's method for almost 15 years. (wow, am I really that old? lol). I love it and have always been happy with the results. I recently started cutting my sister's hair this way. It's only collar bone length and the method still works great!

Your hair looks great as always. I also cut my own hair esp since I'm 47 and Danish women generally cut their hair off to less than 6 inches at my age. All the hairdressers are hard wired to cut all women's hair off. I had my mil trim it once and I had to knock her over and disarm her of scissors because to her 1 inch meant 3 feet! I bun my hair at family gatherings and have felt the need to cover it as well. The men here seem to prefer long hair so I don't know why women cut it off when they marry or hit 30.

I love your hair :) I am growing mine out, it is just past my elbows, but I want mine to grow as long as yours. I have my guy trim my ends every other month. I take a seat on the stool as he sets out a glass of wine for me before he capes me. He uses the morocco method as he sections and trims each successive layer at just the tips to remove only the splits and keep my hemline neat. I had bad experiences with scissor happy stylists as well. I have been salon free for a number of years now and I do not miss it at all. Being I have silver strands that are too numerous to pluck, he has become my colorist as well. I have him do henna, to my full length every three months and a root touch up six weeks in between. It leaves me with great color, shine and my hair feels silky soft. The last time my husband did my hair, a friend stopped by just after he had me caped and my hair pinned up. I told him to continue anyway and she watched how he was doing my hair very intently. She worked in a salon and commented that he was very meticulous and did great work, but that he wasn't taking off very much and that my hair was quick thick and it needs to be thinned out. It reminded me why I do not miss the salon. I am not very good with the shears either, so thankfully I am a very lucky lady that my husband is and that he is not scissor happy. He has a really good pair of Japanese steel hair shears that he keeps sharp and stored away so they are not used for paper or cutting things that would dull them.
@torrinpaige9 жыл бұрын
+Keri Hat He probably doesn't need to trim them quite so often. It sounds like your hair is supremely well taken care of - I'll bet you only need a trim every six months at the minimum.
@kerihatgirl89909 жыл бұрын
+torrinpaige , when I first started my journey, it was about eight months after a bad haircut. He had used a razor and tore my hair up pretty good even though I asked him twice not to use the razor. The second time he screamed at me, "you don't tell me how to cut hair, Im a professional". When my guy gave me the first trim, I had a lot of damage from that bad haircut, shorter pieces I couldn't pull back and my longest layer was just past my collar bone. He was patient with me as he was doing damage control taking off very little of my length but removing damage about every three months. Four years later my hair is to my elbows and I ask for the dusting every other month, just trimming the splits on the underneath layers, I am getting growth with fewer tangles. The amount he takes off you cannot even see in the dust pan. Just removing splits and keeping the hemline neat. If I went longer, I would have far more split ends and the comb would not glide through my hair like it does without tangles. The henna has really helped, my husband notices far fewer splits. So I get quality as well as length.
@torrinpaige9 жыл бұрын
Ah, I see. A razor cut. Then I totally understand. It won't be long, though, until he will be able to space out your micro trims. You are lucky to have such a good man to help you out. ;o)
@kerihatgirl89909 жыл бұрын
Yes, I am a very lucky lady that is for sure. I check how much he sweeps up in the dustpan off the floor after he gives me a dusting on my ends, and it is less than the sheds I comb out of my hair each day. You could not tell he had done my ends unless you lifted up a section of my hair and inspected my ends. My hair often grows faster on one side of my head than the other, and he keeps my hemline neat so I don't have straggly ends. I am happy with the 8 week interval, if there are less splits, then there are less for him to clean up :)

Your hair It looks really great. My hairdresser passed away from Covid several years ago and since then I’ve been growing out my hair and I trim it. I used the beard method. It seems to work great and it’s similar to the one you’re using today except that you pull your hair into one hair Tie under your chin and then another one down at the bottom. My hair is growing really well and it’s down below my armpits. I’m 77 years old.
@Emily-7779 жыл бұрын
I gets so obsessive about perfection when i cut my own hair that I tend to take too much off but this looks easy to control so i might give it a try. My biggest problem with going to the salon besides finding the right girl is the price. They all want to double the price of the cut just because my hair is so long. An inch straight off the bottom should be the same at shoulder leangth or floor leangth yah know?

I'm terrified of trying bandu knots after having tried them many years back and it pulling sooooo much hair out as I tried to undo them. I feel for you there! Feye's Self trim method is still my favorite way to trim my hair. I know this is an old video at this point but I've been watching you (through a couple different accounts over the years) since probably 2008ish. I still enjoy watching your content, even though your hair is much more coarse than mine is. It's so hard to find tutorials for thick hair that is long that isn't just people heat styling their hair the same few ways or flipping hair loops over regular ponytails and calling it a new "style".

Great job! The curved hem looks amazing, and I had no idea how much wider and even more luscious it could make the hair look. Incredible! Looking at the back pics, surely you're at knee length. It is just SO long! I remember a vid about 4 years ago where you said you were stuck at classic...but wow what a difference! Do you think the Tangle Teezer made the difference? I've heard wonderful things about it but have tailbone length curly hair so am always worried about breakage. Just ordered the curly version...you nevah know till ya try, eh? :) Thanks, again, Torrin (Heather) and I hope your Nana is recovering quickly. MIss your sweet smile. Hugs, M
@torrinpaige8 жыл бұрын
+Emma MacGregor It's still classic - I just have a really big bum. I keep it trimmed there - although it does stray down to fingertip every now and then when I wear it up all the time. Knee length is just too long for me to handle since I DO like to wear it down now and then. I did stand next to my mom and squish down to her height - she's a foot shorter than I am - and it's mid calf on her. Lol. Oh, and yes - it's a combination of the Tangle Teezer and using a T-shirt to dry it instead of a towel that has resulted in it being able to get longer, I think.
@emmamacgregor7318 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! That makes sense! I am 5'4" so need less than you for classic...and with curly hair it feels like forever! 'Hope you are doing well and that you are home again and all is well. Looking forward to trying out the Tangle Teezer, and thanks for the confirmation.

well while my stylist did once ask me why I wanted long hair... that was also when I was growing it out from a really short cut so he was just making sure that is what I really wanted it was also before he started loosing hair I think he is much better at understanding now. he is pretty good at not taking too much off but I also go to him only about twice a year. but he also works with long haired gals. I've been going to him on and off since High School so it's been almost 30 years now. when I moved I looked for places near my home but never found any good ones. for a while I cut my own hair but used the flip the head method and I learned to hate layers and the u shape and the straight cut is the only reason I still go to a stylist. although when I had shoulder length hair I once asked a Supercuts guy to cut my hair straight across the back and he asked me if I was sure I wanted it longer in the front like it was a scandal or something. glad I didn't ask him for an A cut

If it makes any sense at all, this new U-shaped cut makes your hair look thicker and fuller. It really is good for hiding the kind of damage you have. I don't think this cut would work on my hair because it is so much shorter than yours is (it is only like maybe 2-3 inches below shoulder length) and I have chunks of broken pieces all over that I'm trying to grow out. One day I would like my hair to be a waist length but almost BSL is the longest I have ever been able to grow my hair to before a major cut. I just think my terminal length is much shorter than I would like. Good job on the cut since you usually have your husband do it for you.

I cut my sister's hair this way and it's around collar bone length. She had lots of damage and many different lengths due to breakage. This helped to hide the damage and gave nice face-framing layers. You should consider it.

I feel like I've known this method for ages since a friend in high school told me how she gets rid of her split ends. I use a completely different method for the bits that hang by the sides of my face, though I can't recall whose method it is. Though sometimes I just slide the scissors to do a curve rather than comb and turn the comb 90 degrees and trim along it. And now I think I should give my hair a trim before I have my shower tonight....

with hair as long as yours.... do you ever get anxiety attacks cutting your hair...... my daughter is growing her hair out right now.... she is 7 and wants her hair to her ankles.... it grows VERY FAST but when she goes in to get a trim to get the bad ends off she has bad anxiety about it..... just wondering if you had the same and how you deal with it......
@torrinpaige8 жыл бұрын
No, I don't have any anxiety over cutting my hair. My philosophy has always been "Quality over Quantity" so I know that if I want my hair to look nice the raggedy ends have got to go. Sure I may lose three or four inches, but they were three or four inches that weren't pretty and were making all of my hair look bad when the rest of my hair is great. Healthy hair is happy hair and if you let splits go too long they split further and further up the shaft and then you don't have happy hair anymore. ;o) I don't know if you think that explanation will help your daughter or not - but that's always been my feeling on it. :o)
