Awesome review. Yea, I feel like the Delano is the beta test to the changes they need to make to the La Sal. While both bikes have 78 degree seat angles, I can see why you’re more comfy on the Delano; it’s longer in both reach & overall top tube length, which is the reasoning to implement such a steep STA. Glad to see the Delano with proper geo numbers across the board & hope to see a 2021 La Sal with 170/160mm, sub 65 HTA, & maybe a little more length to help with stability. It’ll be an EWS slayer at that point!

Yeah, I was surprised at how playful this bike was. I thought would have feel bigger considering the amount of travel the bike has. I think most people would welcome a slacker sta...

MTB yumyum yea, forsure for the La Sal (noticed the Delano ran 77.5, not 78). The Medium Transition Sentinel numbers are 77.5 STA, 450 Reach, 585 TT. La Sal being 78 STA, 445 Reach, 563 TT is def way too short for such a steep STA. The new Sentinel is quite comfortable, along with the new Scout too at 77.2. And the new Evil Wreckoning, running a 170mm fork is actually below 76.5, so I believe you’re 100% correct on getting the STA down!

Funny you mentioned that the seat tube angles is too steep. I find when I stand, the seat is pressed up against the back of my legs. When you hit bumps it forces my legs forward and results in front bias pressure. I just moved my seat BACK an inch this week. I think modern angles have gone a bit too far.
@mtbyumyum

Yeah, it's funny you mentioned the adjustment of your seat backwards. Of the people I know riding LaSal Peaks they all have the seat slammed all the way back.

Nice job, Its good to see you out on some Fezzari's. Yes, the seat angle is a bit steep but as you said, you will get used to it. I have the La Sal and have settled right in on the seat tube angle and find it helpful where every ride is accompanied with a hill to climb. :) Have fun out there Mr. YumYum :)

How does the Delano compare to Yeti's SB 130? I'm torn between these two bikes and have only ridden the Delano at the Fezzari office, they're out of demo bikes. AWESOME content. Thank you!

It's been awhile since my ride on the Delano.... The sb130 is very sporty and efficient... more so than most in the trail bike category. Honestly, I think the Switchblade and Ripmo are best in this category. Call Chris at Salt Cycles and see if he has an sb130's, or switchblade available in your size... Good luck!!

You are spot on your assessment of the La Sal. The Delano is what the La Sal should've been. I know this because I had the elite La sal for a week before I returned it. Great bike and build, but it wasn't for me. I don't understand why any bike has a need to have a high standover. Also, relative to the wheelbase and toptube, the seat angle is too steep. What you are really trying to say in your review but in a different way, is that it's very hard to unload the front wheel to hop up over technical sections. I demoed a devinci spartan 29 after the fact and this bike destroys the lasal on the climbs and obviously on the DH and it has a lot more travel and is more comfortable. I settled on a Spartan 27.5 and for comparison, I did the exact same gnarly and also mellower trails that i rode with the LaSal. Although the spartan has smaller wheels, this bike climbs far better and I had fewer pedal strikes even with a lower BB. But on the gnarly DH, the spartan is a quantum leap ahead. But when I do get a 29er, the Delano is on my list because I know what to look for in the geo numbers now.

Stand over on the La Sal is very high for the size of the frame. Large frame in other brands, easy for me. Medium? Definitely not enough room to stand over without being way too “squashed”. I just risk it and drop the seat every time.

@mtbyumyum - Jason, a lot of your reviews are starting to sound the same. Are all the bikes you've recently been reviewing just average? Propain Hugene, Fezzari Delano Peak, and La Sal Peak. Or are they just really good and it's hard to find significant faults in them? Regarding the Delano and La Sal - the effective seat angle is only 1/2 degree difference between them. 77.5 versus 78. That really affects you that much? How about about trying a larger size? Looking at the Geo, it's obvious the top tube lengths are shorter versus comparable bikes. And maybe, if you made note of the port on the underside of the top tube for a remote shock, you could make a concession that quite possibly both bikes would climb much better if someone ran a different shock. Say for instance the DT Swiss R535 with a 3 position remote like what I run on my La Sal. With this exact setup I can literally ride about just as fast as someone on an XC bike in my area. Bike reviews should be more than just what your butt is telling you. Maybe point all the relevant facts to help you audience make informed decisions including buying a scale and reporting what the bikes weigh. You're the one that has access to the bikes that a lot of people don't.
@mtbyumyum

Yeah, thanks for bringing this up. I've had a concern for more than 2 years now that my reviews all start to sound the same. I even considered canceling the channel. The problem is most bikes today all ride really well. Horst link bikes used to really struggle in the climbing department but now with a single chainring out front they all tend to climb pretty dang good. Engineers jobs are just made easier. Let's talk more about this tonight in the livestream but the reality is most bikes are pretty dang good today!
@mtbyumyum
@mtbyumyum 4 жыл бұрын
Also regarding the seat tube angle. I know on paper the actual measurements are not that much but it's a significant difference. We swap back and forth on climbs and descents and it's a noticeable difference on the La Sal ..
@11leonidas11
@11leonidas11 4 жыл бұрын
@@mtbyumyum Don't cancel. I know it's a lot of work but you really are providing lots of people with a bunch of useful information. And the fact that you ride them on the same trails rules out other variables. As far as bikes sounding the same you could probably make an entire video ranking many of the bikes you've tested on a scale of ten or something. Playfulness, stability, climbing, price etc. I think many people would find that both helpful and entertaining. Keep it up man.
@grubbjt

@@mtbyumyum I will echo the don't cancel sentiment. This is obviously a lot of work to continually post quality content. If a group of bikes are very similar, then they are very similar. Still good to know. I, personally, love seeing you demo so many bikes as I simply don't live in a area with that option. Cheers

MTB yumyum definitely don’t cancel the channel!!! But I do like the suggestion that a few other people have recently made regarding summarizing your review with a score (out of 10 or something) for main categories like climbing and descending. It might also be useful if you include your Strava times (up and down) since it’s free info you already have anyway and your test rides are all on the same trail(s).

I was in the store asking SPECIFICALLY about a bike with lower stand over height for my wife, 3 weeks before this bike came out. They said they had nothing smaller planned in either sizes or bikes with lower stand over height. Obviously that was a LIE. Could have handled that way better, and my wife would have a Delano on order or delivered by now. Instead we bought a Specialized. The worst part was she didn’t get the bike she liked the most because of this LIE. She loved the Signal Peak the most, easily, out of maybe 8 different bikes she tried that couple of days. I need a faster Enduro bike than my La Sal Peak, and a XC bike maybe hard tail as well. Not going to be a Fezzari bike after that bll sht.

Not all the sales staff knows about everything coming weeks before it comes out. I can assure you there was no intentions to deceive, just passing along the knowledge they have at the time. Release dates are there for a reason, when companies can best deliver their products. I’m sorry you feel like you were lied to.

Duds MTB there was a perfectly good response to be had. “Let me find out/see about that.” “How about come back in a few weeks, and you might be pleasantly surprised.” And YES, it was a lie to say nothing was coming when it was weeks away. You work for the company you speak for them, this isn’t fkn Uber. This is a brand that everyone involved with represents. You sound like a shill.
