Tallboy vs Element. One bike for everything, mixed terrain, some rooty rocky, some flowy. No big mountains but some technical climbing and descending. Which would you pick, anybody?

Hello, I’m new to your channel and this might be a bit of a weird question😅. I am in the market for a new bike and was considering the TB5. But I found a 2017 Hightower (29er, 140mm front travel) with amazing components for a VERY good price and in good conditions. I watched your review from back then and it seems like a great bike. This would be my first FS (currently on a XC hardtail) and I was wondering what your thoughts were.

Hey, I know this is a couple of years old now, but just wanted to add my $.02 on the comment you made about not showing too much riding of techy climbs because you felt your audience wants to see the fast flowy stuff...well, I don't know your audience and I suppose that may be true, and while I do love me some good, fast flow, I for one love seeing slow techy stuff! Being able to ride slow, technical chunk is a far underappreciated skill. So, even if it's just for me, keep it coming!

I'm so glad someone finally did this video! I LOVE my BronsonMX. I never thought a bike could make me feel so stable in the air jumping. I have felt the rear wheel hangup in jank but in steep tech the Bronson shines. And Yes, the MULLET setup meets all the Hype! It's the dream.

Thanks so much for your review! I have an original Ripley and bought a V2 Ripmo to replace it, but I still choose to ride the Ripley! I’m ready to get something new that feels more like the Ripley (I love that bike so much!) I see that Jenson has an exclusive Ripley XT in my size, what are your thoughts on that? I worry that I can’t demo it, but also feel like it’s my last chance to get a Ripley that feels most similar to mine. Would love to know your opinion!

To be fair. Since the Ripmo is the 'new' model, you should do the comparison with the latest Bronson that was just released. Overall, though, I've always enjoyed your takes! 🤙

Just mulletted my 2019 Bronson V3. Flip chip on high, bars slammed but using Spank Vibrocore with 50 mm rise. I love it. Never liked analog full 29ers on all mountain or enduro bikes, but the 29er up front to eat the holes does help- less having to lift the front wheel so a bit less fatigue as I get older- and about half a degree slacker makes for a bit more confidence when going steep. Love the way the 27.5 rear wheel carves a turn and how it spins up faster from a stop making powering up steeps or slow going in pedal tech easier. By keeping the bars lower on the stem but using a higher rise bar I brought the bars up without bringing them back to help offset the slacker HTA and STA (also moved my seat forward a bit) so really no front end lift and no crazy gymnastics needed to prevent it on any trails I can ride up. Love the full 29er of my Ibis Oso though. When you have a motor to help, weight and wheel diameter doesn’t matter.

I purchased my 2023 Specialized Levo SL with the mullet wheelset and rode it for 3 months that way. Changed to a full 29er and found it had a lot more stability and speed with that setup. But, I am 200+ pounds which seems to have made the 29er wheels a better choice.

Thanks for another great video! I'm considering to upgrade my Yeti SB130 LR with Cascade Link (139mm travel) w/ 150mm Fork to the Yeti SB140 LR, Ibis Ripmo V3 or potentially the new Santa Cruz HIghtower that is supposed to come out in the next 2 month. I'm curious watch a video how you compare SB140 LR (Full 29er) and the Ripmo V3 (Full 29er).

@mtbyumyum Күн бұрын
Yeah, I've always really appreciated that about Ibis.... That said, I think this bike is just different than anything I've ridden from Ibis in the past... I've spent so much time on Ibis bikes that past few years, all of which have the light traction tune... so I'm familiar with that rear shock feeling. This new Ripmo is extra smooth in my experience!!

Both the 34 and 36 GripX on the Ripley and Ripmo felt meh compared to my previous experiences with the Grip2 34 and 36..... not sure if I just got wonky ones or what but so far, I prefer the old Grip2 over the GripX. Time will tell and I'm sure I'll get more opportunities to ride these forks on different bikes.

Another great review, Jason. I like hearing about how the bike feeeeel in real world applications, not just tech specs. I’m curious out of these two, which one handles steep chunky technical descending better? Did the Bronson’s stability and “safe” feeling carryover to those situations a little better than the Ripmo?
@mtbyumyum
@mtbyumyum Күн бұрын
Luckily I was able to ride loose steep chunky trail on both bikes and I wouldn't say there was a clear winner. Both bikes had the same tires too! I would still give the nod to the Bronson in stability and "stuck to the ground" feeling.

@@mtbyumyumthere’s no way Jase would take a SC over an Ibis 😂👍🏾 both great bikes but for me personally I’ve never understood the Bronson: it doesn’t climb or descend good , it’s ok at both but the Nomad climbs almost as good but it descends 100 times better, just my opinion as most people want a good all round bike! Great video though Jason looked fun 🙌🏼

How does it compare to the Trail 429 V3?
@Hendricksb123
@Hendricksb123 4 күн бұрын
I’m seriously glad you reviewed and praised the v4 version and doing a comparison to the v5 is a great idea! I have the 2022 Bronson CC v4 in a size medium, and I love this bike! It’s great on tech and it’s poppy… and, I also run slower rebound. I keep thinking the v5 will make this bike more appropriate for people over 6 feet…. With the slacker head angle, steeper seat angle, longer wheelbase, longer chain stays, and longer reach, I’m really curious to know how those changes affect the feel of this bike’s size medium…. I’m guessing it will feel more like a Nomad, I’m not sure that’s a good thing, but maybe all of the changes are minor enough to keep the feel of the v4 🤷‍♂️? Although to be honest, I have no plans of replacing my v4… it’s the perfect bike for me! Thank you for the review!!!

I have a full power EMTB and just bought a Pivot Shuttle SL. Check your local dealer, because Pivot apparently have excess inventory of the blue versions. I got the SLX/XT version for $7200 for an XL. Now for what I think since I have had it for 2 weeks...I may never ride my full power again. I always rode it in eco mode and sometimes it just assisted too much. My primary function of mtn biking is to get exercise (I'm 58 and need all the exercise I can get). I still am riding the Pivot in there version of eco mode 99% of the time, and I live in Colorado and ride at about 9000ft almost exclusively. The feel is much more natural vs my full power (Focus Jam2). Also, at 58, I'm not charging down any hills any more. I'm a trail rider now and an SL is perfect for that! Also in there Eco mode, I rode about 21 miles on the first ride and had 60% battery left, so for sure can get 40 miles on a single charge which is way more than I will ever go in a day.
