No joke, I'm a grown-ass man sitting here bawling like a child right now. When I was 7 (in '97, no less), I used to watch my brother play this game. He and my cousin would play the game together while talking on the phone, and I always sat and watched. In 2001, my brother was killed in a car accident, and it tore our family apart. My cousin was there for me. He called me one day and asked me to put FF7 in the PlayStation and start a new save file. I asked why, and he said he wanted to teach me how to play the way my brother taught him. Good on you, Enrico. This is beautiful :')

Lacey wrong so far Jessie’s death and Barrett’s anger for the avalanche crew was better told in the remake. Jessie’s death was forgotten big time in the original and there was no character development we just knew Barrett, tifa, aerith that’s it. The remake is spectacular can’t wait for part 2

I was really moved by this game and I was around five when I looked over the shoulder of my older brother playing this game. Then he moved out far too early and I was left alone. We only could see each other in the holidays and he always brought the newest Final Fantasy, so we could play together. I will always remember the FF series and exspecially FF7 because it was the first Final Fantasy I played together with my brother. I really love him

I am 33 years old and FFVII was the first game I played on the PS1. This game is my childhood, it defined who I was as a gamer and still does to this day. The characters, the story, the lore, I love it all. The remake means so much to me, far more than most would or could understand probably. I think FFVII inspired me to join the military eventually, because I admired aspects of both Cloud AND Sephiroth. I always respected the groups sacrifice for the Planet and what they believed in. To this day, making sacrificing for what is right, is still a value dear to me. I legit tear up with the remake so close. Decades of waiting and we finally get it. I am so hyped, and so emotional for this game!

At the beginning of the game Aerith's theme, through melancholic, is comforting and warm. Like a soft blanket wrapped around as you watch the rain beat down outsode your window. However when you hit the end of disc 1 and her death comes and gos... the whole vibe completely changes. Suddenly the melancholy vibe is so much more prominent in your mind and the comforting aspect is relegated to a more reflective place, a memory of comfort which was torn away. One of the greatest pieces of video game music from the greatest video game death ever.

Beautiful theme 💖 Takes me back to when I first played in 97, barely 13 and FF7 just changed my outlook on video games. Even through the replays, some great modern games in the same spirit (like Mass Effect) and of course the inevitable passage of time ... The impact it made on me has never lessened. A long time ago, back when I was young and didn't know anything about drugs or why things happened the way they did, I went and visited my Dad over the summer. I stayed with him all summer, and around the age of seven or eight, introduced me to Final Fantasy 4 and 7. I would play Final Fantasy 4 on his phone and, since it was the 3D version, I struggled HARD. And while I struggled hard, considering they were the first games I've ever played, they gave me a hard time. But I never stopped playing Final Fantasy, and eventually got around to playing Final Fantasy 7 for myself. And when I got to this part of the game around the age of 11 or 12... that was the first time I felt something real between a fictional character. How was I supposed to care about something that wasn't real? Somehow, it felt that way. If there's one thing I want to thank my father for, it's introducing me to a series of games that feel more than simply video games. A story of a handful of people, with different personalities, and crushing defeats alongside heroic victories. I love this series, but even more than that... I love the music.

Honestly, I don't think a Phoenix Down would've helped. Phoenix Downs are more akin to "revival" rather than "resurrection". Usually, when a party member's HP reaches 0, you can revive them with one, but the same effect can be achieved by going to an inn and getting a good night's rest. I don't think you can sleep off a stab wound through the back of your spine. That's not incapacitated, that's just straight up dead. So there's my take on it. Why didn't Cloud use a Phoenix Down on Aerith? Because it just straight out wouldn't have worked.

In the original I was a firm team Tifa guy, it's not like I didn't like Aerith's character because I did and her story is great, I just always preferred Tifa. Then the remake came out and now I honestly couldn't choose between them, or Jessie for that matter, they did such a good job with her characterisation and design (her outfit in the original is one of the reasons I preferred Tifa, but the remade outfit is soooo good) and I know it's gonna hit different when whichever edition of the remake (could likely be the end of the next one) catches up to the end of disc 1 from the original.

It's amazing to me that while it's technically a great track, it isn't what people remember. So many of us have stories of endurance and sacrifice and have found home in songs like this. It always puzzled my parents why I was so emotionally attached at different times to the games I played. This wasn't my first but it is a story I remember during hard times as we all experience. My advice is to lead others through the tough spots you've been in, even decades later. Nobuo inspired millions, I wonder what his story was?

Mark Mellon the detail they’re putting in that game, though. When he says “I’m fine”, if you look at her facial expression, just for a split second, you see her go from moderately concerned back to cheery and gentle. Oh God, they’re gonna rip our hearts out. Imagine something this beautiful playing while fighting Jenova LIFE and how they’ll be able to design the atmosphere during the fight.... 😭

This game is wonderful I was 17 years old when I played for the first time and the death of Aerith until today is the most remarkable death of all the games I played. There were other very striking parts as when Nanaki discovers that Seto was not the coward he thought but the GREAT WARRIOR of Cosmo Canyon. Dyne's melancholy suicide was also ... sad. Today with 40 years old and father of two little girls .... kkk .... when I play Remake I think it will be difficult to hold the tears when "she will no longer talk, no longer laugh, cry, or get angry...."

This game was SOOO MUCH. The story, in my humble opinion, was THE BEST of all the Final Fantasy series and I have played them all. Even play FFXIV and I think Shadowbringers was phenomenal. BUT NOTHING BEATS FFVII!

I think Aerith dying really hit a nerve in everyone because she represented comfort, warmth, in almost a motherly kind of way.... at least that what her death felt like to me.... only time I ever cried in a video game

From what I hear, that means that the creator did exactly what he wanted to with her. She was originally not scripted for death from some murmurings I heard, then during the drafting, a creator's mother passed and he wished to convey the feeling in the way he knew best... and he wrote the powerlessness into the scripting of her death.
