One of my absolute favourites too. Such a banger. Shame about the fight itself. Given what she was, I always thought Jenova deserved better for the battle against her final form. It was too simple and easy, especially compared to the battles that immediately followed it.

@@kaloustaphaeIt's not really her "final" form. During the game you fight pieces of Jenova left behind to stall you (her arm, etc.). By the end, you're just fighting whatever is left of her. So you're never really fighting Jenova at her most powerful, you're just fighting bits and pieces of her that are being thrown in your path to get in your way.

Probably one of my faves from you, at least tied with compression of time. Both just do an absolutely outstanding job of sending me back to the first seconds of each experience in game, invoking that feeling of "this is it, this is what I've been working to pass" as an adult in exactly the same heart pounding way as I had as a kid hearing the OG OST. I always thought Vincent should've been the one to stay behind and fight off Jenova, while the rest goes after Sephiroth. This theme kinda catches the atmosphere i imagined.

Jenova is almost as powerful as Sephiroth and would need a team of heroes to take down. Bizarro Sephiroth required three teams, so everyone including Vincent.

I can only hope Jenova gets a massive HP boost on the new remake for the last battle... she was killed so fast in the original game that we couldn’t even experience her theme properly... If I was a battle designer, I would give her multiple parts with massive uneven health pools that must be taken down together, or else they would keep fully reviving each other... that would make the fight a bit more challenging 😛

The true antagonist of final fantasy 7. As great as sephiroth is, he was just the Herald. The story all centred around the cyclical threat of JENOVA.

Err, no. Jenova didn't even have a consciousness by the time FF7 rolled around. It was all Sephiroth controlling "her" by sheer force of will.

The English translation is so botched it's hard to tell what the fuck's going on. Sephiroth went nuts because he found out he was a test tube baby and mistakenly believed himself to be an ancient. Jenova was part of it, but she hardly orchestrated anything. She did nothing but exist. They've always been clear about one thing: SEPHIROTH, not Jenova, was the real villain. Do try to pay attention.

TBH, Jenova should have been one of the hardest fights in the game considering her importance to the story, perhaps even moreso than Sephiroth. She died pathetically easy for being the Calamity from the Skies.

She was the first time I played this game back when I was 12-I was old fashioned back then and thought levels were the driving factor and almost completely neglected materia-I didn't even have enemy skill. Needless to say I never beat the original until about a month ago at the age of 32. It was kind of sad it took me that long because I thought the game was a typical hero saves the day. I finally beat it after ask these years and without spoiling the ending, which shocked me after TWENTY YEARS...I barked out "...Yo did we fucking lose?!" Now I see why ff7 is so well liked. I still hate the remake with a passion though. They fucked up Sephiroth bad and I don't like how they reduced Cid to a ferry man.
