To think that in 1983 Margaret Thatcher's government was seriously thinking of closing the entire North Wales railway network: not only the Conwy Valley branch to Blaenau but everything from Crewe to Holyhead. The fully restored Ffestiniog would have been left isolated.

It didn't turn out fine for the Central Electricity Board (CEGH). The subsequent court case Ffestiniog Railway Co vs CEGB was and still is the second longest court case in British legal History.
