Seems like the talent pool isn't as deep as the men. But the best way to make that happen is to incentivize natural talent and the hardest workers to choose grappling by making it profitable for the female athletes. Ffion puts on a great show, and there is rising talent like Helena Craver. Now seems like a great time to pay grapplers well, the sport is ready to explode in popularity because of CJI. ADCC built the vibes over the years but CJI has initiated a new era.

This is the WNBA fallacy. Women don't make less because of discrimination... they make less because the sport is about how much attention you can bring to the fight. It's not about "who's suffering" the most. Women's BJJ doesn't garner as much attention as men. That's just the way it is. Unlike the WNBA though I do think women are extremely entertaining and skilled in BJJ. There isn't the same skill gap as there is with the WNBA example. Women are very good at BJJ. There just aren't a lot of them competing. In the future more Women will compete in BJJ at a high level and we will see pay increase for everyone. But if it doesn't equal the men that doesn't mean your being discriminated against...

Same thing I’ve been saying for years about the WNBA that no one talks about… the talent pool is too small to even consider justifying equal pay. How many women train BJJ compared to men worldwide? 1/10? 1/50? 1/100. In basketball it’s probably similar. Most high schools can’t even field a girls basketball team.
@E_Gfree2 ай бұрын
Nahhhh I disagree here. What kind of logic is this? Ffion is “fighting for women’s pay and representation” while choosing a tournament where only 2 women competed against each other. ADCC did more for the representation of women this year because… there were actually a lot of women competing…. Remember this has nothing to do with how good she is. Simply, objectively, her message is a little muddied when choosing a comp where only she and another get compensation and there is no woman’s division. Only a men’s.

Everyone is free to do what makes them happy. I have zero issue with women doing Jiu-Jitsu, but I personally don't like rolling with them for various reasons, and none of them are the fear of getting "beaten." As others have said, 2 good women BJJ players (Ffion and Mackenzie) does not suddenly make women's BJJ relevant. More female BJJ players are needed to step up and become known in order to increase the talent pool and put on exciting matches that people want to see. Caitlin Clark (and a few others) have brought more excitement and interest to the WNBA, and that's why that league is getting more eyeballs on it now than it ever has before. Will it ever rival the popularity of the NBA? No, but people are interested in the WNBA now more than they've ever been in the past, because certain players have shown up and captured the fan's attention. And as far as BJJ women being "girly girls" vs. being more "masculine", again, do whatever the hell you want to. It's your life, but just understand the ramifications of your actions. Most "masculine" men probably have zero issue with their woman doing BJJ, however, what they don't want is that woman now thinking that BJJ makes her a badass or the "man" of the house and trying to use that to emasculate her boyfriend/husband, or just generally be a complete pain in the ass to deal with.

Would love to see her start her own comp. Its completely possible. She has the name. The gender communist framework with which these issues get framed with is actually destroying male female relationships. Its presented as seeking justice which is understandable, but is poison in disguise. She's demanding men recognise her, which isnt a great way to get what she wants. What if men dont feel drawn to watch her?that means the men have something wrong with them? If there is a reason she gets paid less, i hope it gets explained to her or corrected and she gets properly paid. Calling people names is ridiculous. Good luck to her, but the resentment and ad hominem attacks are dumb. Not every phenomenon in society is applicable to marxist theory and because of evil. She is talented and I hope she makes a good go of it.

"fair pay" is such a tough thing tbh women in combat sports are just no draw at all for me, im a simple moron, i wanna see two brutes fight it out and thats it. she may be the best technically, but if you look like i could beat you (which she does, although i couldnt beat her ofc lol) then im just not interested hard spot to be in. she deserves all the money in the world for what she is and what she is doing, but i wouldnt pay to watch her

Don't mean to be rude, but then you're not a fan of jiu jitsu as a sport. You're a fan of aggression. As you said Ffion is currently the most dominant and technical female grappler out there, anyone that's interested in jiu jitsu will love that. I'd recommend you watch her match if you haven't yet, because that will show you very quickly someone with her size can easily fk you up.

Women don’t get paid as much for a good reason. Women’s sports will NEVER be on the same plane as men’s. That’s not a knock on anyone that’s just the reality of it. They don’t generate nearly as much revenue and they don’t generate buzz and attention. You know who doesn’t care about women’s sports? WOMEN. So tired of this argument, “women should get equal pay!” Ok when they are the driving force behind the majority of the revenue an event brings in then I’d be inclined to agree but until then, no they should be paid proportionate to that. Don’t know where she gets off insulting fans calling them jncels just because they don’t care about an inferior product on the mats. Even the very best female grappler would get toyed with like a child by a relatively low level male grappler. I’m just a regular guy that trains for fun (granted I’m a black belt that has been training 18 years) and I’m not convinced she could beat ME. I’m in pretty good shape for my age and I’m 215 lbs, she’s not doing to me what she does to women if I’m trying my hardest. It’s a joke

i can get why it sucks, but where are the female ricksons and renzos, helio gracies, etc. that built this from nothing over almost 100 years. you have to bootstrap the demand, it's the fans (and sponsors, proportional to fans) you draw that are paying you. from whom are you asking for money, and how did they get it?

I completely agree. It's a niche sport populated at the highest levels by, let's be honest, unlikeable, almost socially dysfunctional, charisma vacuums. Those personality types will never make the sport attractive to the average viewer or sports fan. And while I love the increasing focus on "complete" Jiu-jitsu (which is really what Judo once was: stand up, hand fighting, takedown/throw, transition to mat, establish control or submission for the win), you are absolutely correct: it's sooooo boring. Unfortunately, the dysfunctional personalities and boring nature of the sport will never make it appealing to anyone other than an enthusiast.

If she isn't fighting in the UFC she won't be nothing more than just a grappler. She's the big fish in the ever-decreasing pond. And fighting in the UFC doesn't mean going to Fight Pass Invitational either. She's just defeated a ranked UFC contender in a graps match. Her ceiling as a potential MMA fighter is gonna get lower as she ages so she either stays a grappler or goes full MMA pro.

@@M-dv1yj100%. Am I the only one that can’t stand this woman? She’s really thinks who the F she is that’s for sure. Women get paid less for athletic endeavors for a good reason. The amount of revenue they generate is far less than their superior male counterparts. This is economics 101 here. Women’s sports will never be on the same level as men’s sports, sorry but that’s the way it is. You wanna know who doesn’t watch or support women’s sports? OTHER WOMEN. It’s hard to take seriously the best female grappler that would get turned into a pretzel by even a semi competitive purple belt male.
