Orrr... Uematsu was still composing in the mode of the SNES sound chip in VII (especially in terms of the sample selection), and didn't really start pushing the capabilities of the new chip until the boss themes, and then started really using what he learned there to write the VIII and IX soundtracks.

​@@Fuchsia_tude Very true, Uematsu's music in 7 is still very much in line with what he was doing on V and VI, It's part of why it transfers over to the font so well. On VII and VIII he really started pushing his arrangements, using far more layers and instrument channels in his tracks, whereas VII was still very similar in terms of complexity to his earlier work.

​@@Fuchsia_tude That being said, the PS1 soundchip was almost exactly identical to the Super Nintendo's in terms of how it sounds was designed, particularly it's reverb. It was just a better version of the same chip since Sony created the SNES chip.
