Looks like you have some nice specific NM guides for some of these already, but maybe also worth mentioning that every nation has several useful weak NM drops in its starting zones with easy NMs to take down by lvl 10-14. Aside from Leaping Boots you covered, Optical earring and Armigers Lace near Bastok, Tenax Strap, Clipeus shield, Gelong Staff and Rabbit Charm near San d’oria and Pelte shield, Pilgrims Wand, Mist Silk Cape and other’s near Windurst. Also the ‘mini’ beastman strongholds near each city have some decent drops and treasure chest loot farmable with care by lvl 20 or so (battle gloves in KRT chest or travelers mantle from Spook come to mind)! Great job with this guide for new players!

very true there are some nice low level NM you can camp. LL prolly being one of the hardest as its camped the most by some higher levels with better tools (thf/bst or rng). Def a good point. Maybe ill do a low lvl NM guide one day ! sounds like a good idea :)

A bunch of less camped but still great starting gear nms would make a great video for sure. Aside from nms, starting gil is always tight too, but I often recommend people create a mule character in Windurst if not starting there or make an early run there and get their thief to 15 even if they don’t want that job any higher for treasure hunter 1 solely to use on crawlers in a route around starfall tree just outside town for the quest creepy crawlies. Selling the silk in stacks on the AH and turning in the calculus for 600 per three is I believe the best earning lowing level repeatable quest in the game (was at least 10k/hr). I parked it there my first week on wings and made a good 250k plus maxed Windurst fame before I ever partied. Perfect to fund starting gear and spells or a stronger earner like Chocobo digging, fishing or start a craft (example, alchemy can start yielding profit pretty early and then majorly later in 70s reliably from direct to npc remedy sales because npc buy prices on stuff like that don’t have the RMT nerfs here on wings that retail had in era). Wings probably already has various money guides pinned on discord, but when you make the Windurst guide, you should definitely highlight how decent that crawler repeatable quest is as a suggestion. Awesome video thanks so much for the quality content. A couple of questions, when you get to level 5 as WAR or MNK what should you buy instead of spells? Also how do you get your menus to show on the left side of the screen? And what are some overall tips for a beginner who has never tried the game before? I am keeping some guides and wiki pages of quests I want to do close, but should I be talking to every NPC I encounter or something like that? Its hard to learn when theres barely any players running around in game and I am not really a fan of asking questions on discord tbh, any input will be greatly appreciated. Theres a quest at north sandoria F-6 where you turn in 2 bat wings for 200 gil btw its called Fear of the Dark

FFXI really does NOT hold your hand so dont be shy to ask questions. Id recommend joining a Linkshell so they can answer questions when you have them. As a mage, you want to focus spells. As a WAR or MNK, u really dont need much to get going. Prioritize a weapon, then some armor. Ur abilities dont cost any gil, so easier to get started on those jobs in my opinion. From there, theres a lot to do, from missions, quests, etc. Just keep in mind FFXI is a marathon, not a race. There are some wikis with a quest list or missions. Which server do you play on? retail or something like HorizonXI?

What do you know about locking styles? I'm a lvl 99 dark knight and the visual for my current armor does not make me look "dark knighty" enough.

so im not sure if this works on retail, but on WingsXI there is a /lockstyle command to kind of ''glmaour'' whatever gear you want ! Since i dont play retail i couldnt tell ya if that works there :( maybe someone can comment back and confirm? :)

Good question. I will probably be trying out Horizon myself and possibly making content/streaming along with it, so I will be able to answer the question then. I think taking your time and gathering your own mats VS buying them will be huge. some crafts like Smithing and GSM can be very expensive as well, but this will depend on the economy on server. Guess we will see !
