New Sages: once you get some practice in, Sages are super comfy and you get into a great rhythm in dungeon pulls. Smartly using all your cooldowns allows for very smooth healing.

Thanks for this comment! I unlocked sage because I wanted to try something other than DPS, but I was so overwhelmed that I haven’t touched it since unlocking it weeks ago. Just you saying that it’s “comfy” encourages me to give it another shot because I find DPS comfy which is why I stay with it. But sage pew-pews look and sound SO COOL that I really want to get into it.

Big mistake so I've got to put all that back later and hope I was just having a bad run 🤣 I'm bot keen on healer but I want to be able to atleast be OK at it. Doesn't help that I went from levelling white mage to sage 🤣

@@lp1spiritguidance577Don’t get discouraged though. As a warrior main, if you feel the need to keep up with the huge pulls, it might not just be because of you. A warrior with raw intuition unlocked should be able to handle big pulls by themselves most of the time, especially if the dps is adequate.

Just decided to try Sage for the first time. Felt a bit overwhelmed, so I looked for a guide. The other one I watched said "Sage is super simple!" and then spouted jargon rapid-fire for fifteen minutes. I didn't follow a word of it. This video was much easier to digest. Thank you. Not yet confident in healing a dungeon, pretty sure if I tried, everyone would die repeatedly, and I would want to kick myself out. But at least i have a starting point.

I am glad my guide could help you! 😊 I would recommend making use of the duty support system to practice with NPCs if you are scared of messing up with players! If the large toolkit is overwhelming you can also start with lower level dungeons too this way to ease yourself into the job 😊

@Caetsu Chaiji Ch. ah, good idea. I'm uh... having difficulty with the introductory quest... where you heal an NPC in a mini dungeon. Not doing well. Maybe easing into it through low level dungeons would help.

It's great that new jobs start at a fairly high level so you can quickly get them into higher level content, or if you want to do a new expansion's MSQ as the new job, you're not that much farther behind. It's bad that they start at a fairly high level because you just get flooded with abilities, additional resources and mechanics that it's pretty overwhelming to learn. Pictomancer looks interesting but starting at level 80 seems pretty daunting.
@smellybearc74117 ай бұрын
Tbh, if you are still having trouble keeping tank alive after doing everything he said here, just drop Eukrasia diagnosis as frequently as needed and heal the tank back up by hard casting Eukrasia. Make sure to weave in that resource spender aoe attack whenever you can. The faster the mobs die, the easier it gets.

What a great video. It explains everything so clearly. Unfortunately, I suppose Sage is just not for me. It's much too complicated. I can't even make it past the tutorial quest; the NPC keeps dying. I thought I could handle its intricacies, being a Black Mage/ Dark Knight main, but even with blowing every cooldown I can, I simply can't prevent/heal enough damage to keep the NPC alive past the first enemy, even blowing every last resort option; I just can't heal or prevent enough damage. What a difficult class! I just can't manage it, and I have immense respect for anyone who can. Again, excellent video; you helped me understand the class in theory, but I just can't handle it in practice.
@CaetsuChaijiCh Жыл бұрын
I'm glad you found my guide interesting and helpful! Unfortunate that you are having a hard time with the quests though! Have you made sure to equip a full set of healing accessories on top of the gear you are given when unlocking the job? If you don't have proper equipment then the quests might be a lot harder than they need to be! If your gear is not the issue, then my best advice is to make sure Kardia is active on the NPC, and if the NPC dies to too much damage, try using Diagnosis a bit more than what seems normal. If it is a mechanic that kills the NPC due to running out of time or something (I cant remember if this is something that happens), then try being a bit more aggressive! I don't know what specifically would make the fight so hard as it is so long ago I did it, but I do hope you can make it past this hurdle!
@shaurmiath6719 Жыл бұрын
@@CaetsuChaijiCh Hey! Thanks so much for the continued advice. I did try upgrading my gear from what you're given when you become a Sage; I assumed that would be enough to play a tutorial, but clearly it wasn't. That made it somewhat easier. I also invited my friend who is a Sage main to show me the quest and give me input while I streamed... I got past the first group of mobs and simply could not defeat the boss. My NPC would die, or I would die. It's not an unusual quest mechanic or unusual objective; I simply do not have the ability to keep myself and the NPC alive. The class is just too difficult for me to play. It's the tutorial quest "Sage's Focus." I've tried it 15 times now and it is too hard for me. I don't think I should bother trying the class in dungeons if I can't even do the tutorial. It's okay, not every class is everyone's cup of tea. I am having a ton of fun with White Mage, Astrologian, and Scholar, so I have options aplenty for healing, and I love to play Black Mage, Dark Knight, and Samurai. Sage is just beyond me, and that's okay. It merely means I'll be commending Sage players all the more when I play with them for mastering something I can't even begin to grasp. Thanks again for all the helpful info. Have a great day! :)
@CaetsuChaijiCh Жыл бұрын
@@shaurmiath6719 I went into the duty to see in New Game Plus. You should have the option to do the duty on Easy or even Very Easy if you find it difficult. Doing content with an NPC in this way is very different from doing content with other players, so I don't think you should kick yourself over having a hard time with this duty 😊 However, I went into the duty on normal to check it out. Here is what I recommend on the boss fight: Before pulling, make sure the NPC has Eukrasian Diagnosis up. Since the boss doesn't pull on its own, you can even sit and reapply the shield until you get a Crit if you want it extra big to make it easier. Then fight as best you can. When the red arrow indicating a tank buster appears, reapply Eukrasian Diagnosis to the NPC (they might not need this, but it is safer). If the NPC, or you, drop below safe HP amounts, always stop attacking and use Eukrasian Diagnosis. You can use the rest of your toolkit too of course, but using the bigger cooldowns sparingly when you aren't sure may be best, so you have them for later. Once the Monk fight ends, the fight with the Sage + Black Mage combo begins. Don't bother trying to hit the mage, and just go for the sage immediately. For some reason the sage will not heal himself, but will always heal the mage, even for small amounts of damage. When the Mage starts casting Demifire III, consider putting up Eukrasian Prognosis (or even Diagnosis on both you and the NPC), and consider using Kerachole for the extra damage reduction too if you like. This attack hurts a lot so be sure you are both completely topped up on HP before it lands. After the hit, you can use Physis and then Ixochole to recover efficiently. At some point in the fight, a pretty wild amount of telegraphs happen, dodge them as best you can, I recommend spending the running time on using Eukrasian Diagnosis on yourself first, then the NPC (The NPC will dodge enough hits to only lose around half its HP from this). As the only failure condition for this duty is you or the NPC dying, and there is no relevant time constraint, prioritize keeping you and the NPC alive at all costs over attacking. And yes choosing to play hyper defensively is also a legitimate strategy that sometimes Healers may need to employ, so you don't have to feel bad about playing like that! I hope this might help you get through the duty, Shaurmiath!

@CaetsuChaijiCh Жыл бұрын
It'll come with practice! The first few dungeons in Shadowbringers are really rough as a start as they can easily be overwhelming to heal. Remember that if you need to, making use of your healing spells to supplement your ability healing can be necessary, especially when learning! If you find the toolkit a bit too overwhelming in general, I recommend intentionally queueing for lower level content so you can get acquainted with a smaller part of the toolkit, one bit at a time. For example, starting with Sastasha for the bare minimum, and then working your way up to higher level dungeons where you gradually introduce more actions! If you really enjoy the style of the job and want to learn it, I am certain you can! It's just a matter of finding a way of learning that works for you! ^^

So, im trying to practice sage in lower lvls and, what do i do when i dont really have my mits and insta heal abilities besides like eukrasian (pre lvl 50 dungeons) and physis? Do i just spam diagnoses or eukrasian diagonoses when the tank gets too low health?
@CaetsuChaijiCh10 ай бұрын
If the tank drops too low then yeah, eukrasian diagnosis and potentially regular diagnosis can be your only options. But the key here is to figure out if it is OK to keep attacking because of kardia heals. Depending on your level, you may have soteria to boost your kardia healing as well. But in super low levels, you can end up only having regular diagnosis and kardia for healing. What really matters is that you resort to regular healing spells only if you have to 😊 I hope that makes sense!

"Starter guide" starts talking about if there are two enemies then do this thing but if there are more do this other thing BUT if there are more and all of them have the first thing then do the second thing. Also talking about the math of how many packs are in dungeons and how long they take to down. I'm not speed running dungeons or doing Savage content as a beginner Sage. And for the love of god, can this game make their skills any harder to remember? Halfway through this video I was already forgetting which was which. This is why I stick with DPS. Ive been trying to get into healing or Tank for faster queues because DPS gets screwed on those, but my god.
@CaetsuChaijiCh Жыл бұрын
It is a starter guide for a level 70 job. By level 70 you should know that all jobs use different actions based on numbers of targets, this just happens to take a larger portion of the attacking part because there is not that much to say about attacking as a healer. Sages weakness is in over spending or your valuable cooldowns, so considering how long fights take can help you plan ahead so you don't land in the awkward spot of having nothing. You may not be speedrunning dungeons, but your team will on average pull two packs at a time, unless something forces them to do otherwise. Best you can do is expect it and play around it. Learning 70 levels worth of actions can be difficult, and many of them being named in Greek (literally) certainly doesn't help either. But I do recommend doing lower level content first where less of the toolkit is available to let you get acquainted with a few actions at a time if you find it too overwhelming. Alternatively, Scholar has many similarities to sage, so learning that job can make you have an easier start with sage. Playing a role for faster queues isn't uncommon, but it has to be acceptable that the play style is vastly different from the one you are used to. If you never played a healer before, then jumping straight to sage and being overwhelmed is to be expected, and in that case I advice trying white mage first, and perhaps Scholar. But genuinely, a level 70 guide has quite a lot to cover, and while the math seems weirdly excessive, it is a fast way to explain precisely how to play 😅
