The music is a somber remix of two other FFXIV themes, both Garlean. The initial melody (the slightly jarring piano-synth-thing) is the Garlean anthem, "Imperial Will" that then transitions into the violin/vocal mix of "Penitus," the theme of the Praetorium dungeon. It's notable because the Praetorium is the dungeon where we face off against Gaius van Balesar, and this entire quest series "The Sorrow of Werlyt" is about the failure of Gaius's ideology as a Garlean General in their war and how it all not only comes back to bite him personally but the effects it had on the ordinary folks of Werlyt.

And Love You Shall Find is such a somber track becauseTerncliff is a war-torn town long oppressed by the setting's Evil Empire (despite how peaceful the place looks in-game). The theme also is supposed to accompany one of the Imperial General's disillusion with the empire he served and the things he had done in service to it

Not sure if it's been mentioned before, but worth noting that almost every zone in FFXIV has a unique theme a track to it... and almost all of them have a respective piano counterpart that plays during the night in-game. I love this song, but like it makes me a little sad too. There's a warmth to it but there's also this like... Emptiness to it, like there's a lot of notes that aren't being played if that makes any sense? It sort of makes sense with the context of the story too, this is an area that was conquered by the Garlean Empire in the past, they've taken over the town and turned it into their own little military site. There's a whole culture of people here that are being suppressed and made to serve the empire, so that might be why the song is so subdued.

Terncliff's theme (And Love You Shall Find) is, as other people have commented, somber because it's a war-torn town oppressed by the Garlean Empire. The keys that add tension are actually part of the leitmotif for the main theme for the Empire ("Imperial Will"), while the vocals and violin use the leitmotif from the Praetorium dungeon ("Penitus"), which is also used in "A Land Long Dead" (the bgm in the dungeon "The Burn"). Links to the tracks: Imperial Will: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnuxg2NmhrZ-jdU There's also an interesting arrangement of this track in the latest expansion's zone, where we go to the Garlean capital city, "Garlemald" titled "Home Beyond the Horizon": kzbin.info/www/bejne/mWnVZHqtnauFiqs Penitus: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oKmWgoOficiLl5Y A Land Long Dead kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIelYaCpepqpZ5I

"Why does this sound so sombre when it looks so peaceful?" This is an OST for a region that was taken by the Empire years ago (you can hear the leitmotif there but it's not as 'aggressive' as in ARR "Imperial Will"), a certain 'villain's' (who was the one that originally took it) adopted children are working in secret to reclaim the area so that they and the people living there are free from a tyrrant who is in charge of i. Although it seems like they are working against their father (who is now a defector from the Empire and trying to retake it for the people), they don't want him involved because of the lenghts they are prepared to take to take it back. Out of 5 of them, only one survives. It's sombre because of the sorrows the occupations has brought to the people and especially when the Empire started to crumble. I guess since the story itself is very bittersweet, they were looking something fitting to it.

Late to this but, hoo. This song always hits right in the feels. FF14 takes from all FF games, and this one takes from the original FF7 and its Weapons. The Weapon Storyline, as it’s officially dubbed, takes the concept and combines and creates new scenarios and story with them. The Weapon’s are not the ones from 7, and the man at the center of this storyline uses this to go through several major character arcs in the span of just 3 trials, a handful of cutscenes, a good few quests, and amazing music like this masterpiece.

Terncliff's theme is so haunting... it gives me chills every time. I love it so much. Bit of insight, the main melody you hear starting at 1:11 is the main theme of the Garlean Empire, which is, to go with the extremely simplified version, one of the main antagonist forces in the world of the game, an expansionist and ruthless empire. Normally this theme is very epic and orchestral and threatening. Terncliff is located in a region that was ravaged and occupied by the Empire, as well as fallen victim to a devastating epidemy (which is why the empire ended up abandoning it), hence the more somber, sorrowful take on it here.
@Zethrae2 жыл бұрын

It’s crazy how good this theme works in different scenarios. The first we heard of it was from Terncliff, small town only recently freed from the grasp of the oppressive empire. While freed, they will never truly escape the horrors inflicted upon them, the tragedies forever haunting the streets of the city and filling it with melancholy. [EW Spoilers Ahead!!] We hear it later on in Garlemald itself, during several different scenes. Every one of them serving to remind us that the once great empire is now fallen, its citizens (although arguably complacent of the crimes of their leaders) undeserving of the torment inflicted upon them. A dying people barely clinging onto hope, memories of better days held fast and many existing as ghosts of an old regime. I LOVE this track. I’m glad the people suggesting tracks aren’t forgetting the slower paced and more calm songs that highlight how immersing the music can be to XIV. Keep up the great reactions, your insight was amazing!

The storyline associated with this area is so heartbreaking and just the music makes me cry. A lot of World of Warcraft streamers started playing ffxiv last year. Both Preach and Pyromancer broke down and cried on stream. It is one of the quest lines that sticks with you about this game. Some suggestions: all the city themes. There’s a day and night version of all city themes. Let’s start with day version of Gridania, Ul’dah, and Limsa Lominsa. Also…. Is there a country song? There a Chocobo theme from the race tracks based on ff7 that would work. And the bosses for this are the WEAPONS from ff7. Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, and Diamond. They are giant Gundam robots in ff14. The themes are Ultima Primals Version and then you have heard Emerald’s theme but not the others.

Hearing this song, a remix of a couple of other "Harder" themes, like "Iron Will" and "Penitus," right after some of the most humanizing moments of what was, basically, a generic villain, and making him a grieving father lamenting his lost adopted children in war, was absolutely painful. I've heard people say the whole "children playing hide and seek" thing is creepypasta, but I actually found it kinda tearful and sorrowful. Gaius started off as a vaguely OP bad guy who meant to conquer and destroy and all that, but this story made him a father mourning his lost children to his own mistakes, and the horrors of war. It made him a MUCH better "villain" then before Edit: I meant "Imperial Will" not "Iron Will" got the song names wrong. sorry

So I’m sure it’s been recommended already, but just in case not, you need to listen to Flow from FF XIV. The thing with that song is, while it’s a beautiful song on its own, it goes to a whole other level when you know and understand the lyrics. Basically, what you’d need to know is the whole song is about, after death, your soul, representing what amounts to a single rain drop amidst millions of other souls, flows like a river into the Aetherial Sea (the after life) where you meet Hydaelyn (The goddess of light and a sort of mom figure) and tell her about your life and what it meant to you. Then after your soul rests it figuratively returns to the shore and reincarnates into the next life. I can’t listen to the song without crying. It’s beyond beautiful and sad at the same time.

I'm used to hearing this after many hours of story, so to me the song is sad and exceptionally creepy. It’s not apparent on first glance, but this is from a corner of the game story that’s influenced by Mobile Suit Gundam and Evangelion, including themes of sacrifice, body horror, Imperialism, and child soldiers, the primary way I’d describe this song is Bittersweet. It’s got a 12-year old music motif in it that’s the signature theme for the Garlean Empire who’ve been major antagonists most of the game that starts out kinda like the Star Wars theme and gets lots of iterations as we see more aspects of the empire. The physical zone is a tiny liberated corner of a conquered country in the Empire that some powerful mecha-type monstrous weapons are being made.

This is a track that was entirely composed and arranged by Masayoshi Soken (a lot of FFXIV tracks were arranged by other people). This is actually quite surprising since its musical style is a little different from most of Soken's recent music. It's also one of my favourites among Soken's works. Might be a bit of a hot take, but I prefer this kind of music from Soken a little more than some of his recent works. Of course, it's just my personal preference in music.

The story of a land, conquered by the enemy nation after killing many people, enslaving the orphans. One of those "enemy" (which since joined our side) really tried to take care of the orphans behind the scenes, as his intent was to bring peace through the war, accepting some of the required "collateral damages" to do what he, at that time, thought was the best way to move forward towards a unified world. Some of those orphans came up with a grand plan to destroy the enemy from the inside, and then failed and sacrificed one after the other, in front of the eyes of the one they called 'father'. An extremely sad side story, really.

Terncliff is a town (with an european peaceful greek vibe) that has been conquered by the Empire and lived under its oppression for long. Like many other provinces, its inhabitants have been drafted into the imperial war machine, torn apart, and families split. Here, the town has been liberated by the underdogs (the good guys as in a lot of FF titles), and the player gets to dive into more and more atrocities. This quest series is a really dark, gritty story about a previous villain (an ex imperial general) who has been chasing these new imperial superweapon prototypes made in desperation, and realizes that they're all operated by local child orphans he took under his wing in the past and lost sight of when he defected recently. You have already heard some of the weapon's boss themes (Ruby, Emerald "The Black Wolf Stalks Again"). It is bittersweet story with a bittersweet ending of broken people trying to rebuild themselves, and a foretaste to the liberation of the imperial homeland in the last expansion, and it's even more griping today with all the parallels we're seeing with the war in Ukraine (all of this was released before).

The scene this intro music is actually set to is horrifying and so sad. It is a completely destroyed city populated by death. Everyone gone, men, women and children all dead. It is simply heartbreaking to stand with this music playing and see the scene. It is the destruction of Garlemald. The view in the video is from a completely different city.

So, the closest thing that I can think of for FFXIV country music is the "Chocobo Racing Theme" from the chocobo racing Gold Saucer minigame. Wonder if that's somewhere on the list. If not, I might add it lol.

I can safely say that in-game, you wouldn't hear voiced lines; they didn't do any for 'The Sorrow of Werlyt' quests. (They typically don't do voiced lines for non-MSQ content; there have been exceptions, but that's usually in raid fights only.) Other ambience, though, absolutely. The ocean surf below Terncliff, the footsteps of your character... yeah. Terncliff is a very beautiful place, but also very tragic in FFXIV; as has been pointed out, that's why 'And Love You Shall Find' is so somber. I remember when we first arrived in Terncliff; I took a screenshot, thinking it was a lovely place. Months later, as 'The Sorrow of Werlyt' concluded, I found myself thinking 'damn... that is NOT the direction I expected it to take.' The whole place is just... it doesn't change too much, but revisiting Terncliff just serves as a wondrous reminder of a very grand story.

For some tonal whiplash maybe try Pa-Paya from FFXIV. Also I think my last favorite song in the game is the original Garlean Empire theme (which ironically, the song you just listened to is a remix for). The original is just such generic Bad Guy music that it made me roll my eyes a bit when I first heard it

This is a very tragic place, occupied territory and child abuse. Very haunting and twisted villain in this area.
