not being able to guess that Fafnir's fire breath was actually a doughnut was hilarious to experience on day one ngl
@HanabiraKageАй бұрын
Even funnier was not being able to get out of the center when he landed and only noticing at the last second that the fire's clearing up from the opposite end of the arena. Sadly Jesse didn't get the full experience because he's a tank.

As someone who played XI for 12 years from NA release and XIV since 1.0, this raid was EVERYTHING to me. Nonstop nostalgia from beginning to end. Prishe was a really fun fight. Seeing that exp party running like hell when the alliance pulled Aquarius was top shelf. Fafnir was dope, full stop. Shadow Lord was chaotic as hell. And I loved it when he put on his armor from Wings of the Goddess. And then there's the Ark Angels... That is now officially my single favorite piece of content in this entire game! I love that they speak their individual quotes out loud in the fight. I love that their moves from XI were transferred so well into XIV's engine. I love that there are lots of interrupts to look out for. I even love that AA HM's Mijin Gakure is a full wipe if it goes off. From top to bottom, this raid is absolutely Grade A. 😊
@aradow18Ай бұрын
my favorite easter egg was seeing the leveling party in Boyodhah tree going to a leveling camp as you're running through the trash mobs.
@SlvrStrykerАй бұрын
It's not even a leveling party! It's literally just a few people hunting for Aquarius, and you beat them to the punch...alongside having the balls to take on the pack of mobs around it as well, hence why they leave when you pull the pack. XD
@OsteichthyesАй бұрын
So Jesse is mostly right about the Shadow Lord, but there are a few things. The expedition to Xarcabard, or more specifically, Fei'Yin ("The Northern Expedition") was a multilateral expedition with select members from all 3 starting city-states. They were originally going just to investigate a strange stone that held power (Bastok had originally tried to keep it secret, but it leaked, so other nations got involved). Jesse is mostly correct with the next part, however, Raogrimm (The Shadow Lord) wasn't immediately killed by Ulrich (the Hume). Ulrich tried, but Cornelia (the other Hume) stood in front of the blade and was cut down. This sent Ulrich into a frenzy, and struck Raogrimm down. He disposed of their bodies in the deep ravines, claiming that they had fallen down, covering his actions. The other members debated on what to do, and after a brief search gave up. The Elvaan member declared it was beneath him to get involved, the Mithra was only interested in her new found toys and gems, and the Tarutaru lacked the will to push back. So it was that the expedition came to an end, the truth hidden, save for Raogrimm who on his dying thoughts dwelled on being betrayed, on seeing the only person who was nice being killed. Now an important part, Galka do not reproduce, but are instead reincarnated as a child within their homeland of Altepa (not Bastok). Raogrimm would also undergo this, but he wasn't just a Galka, he was the Talekeeper, someone who carries the entirety of the Galkas memories and acts as a cultural leader, and the Galka are...not treated well in Bastok. Overwhelmed by his anger and grief, his reincarnation caused a resonance within the crystals that laid buried, the same crystals that they originally been sent to investigate, and would result in the birth of The Shadow Lord. A being empowered by crystals, born of malice and grief. By the Elvaans arrogance, the Tarutaru's cowardice, the Mithra's envy, the Hume's apathy, and the Galka's rage, did the Shadow Lord spawn. A being that was would enact his vengeance unto Altana's children. The same children who killed him.

There are a number of things I love about this raid, FFXI nostalgia goes hard, but I really love when you go into the Boyahda tree, there is a party of adventurers looking to hunt Aquarius and leave him to you when they see all the monsters. Nothing like some good ol' NM hunting.

I never played FF11 (Never even heard of it in the 2000s despite playing all the MMOs I could at the time) but to me it sounds really similar to another early 2000s MMO - Ragnarok Online. That game also had a big intimidating overworld that you needed to team up with other players to tackle or you'd lose XP on death. A lot of AFKing in cities to sell your goods and hang out with other players also happened. These were MMOs that were made before the genre both hit it's stride and became much more sanitized throughout WoW's development which gradually turned it into an experience in which you don't have to know any other players on your server to succeed. There was something really magical about working together to survive in a brutal MMO world.

in FF11 I played a Tarutaru SAM main. I did it on purpose when a friend told me "Tarutaru are the worst for melee roles" I still did it and wanted to be top dps in my raid regardless of my race which I did but I was heavy gear of course! Your raid guild sucked if they didn't let you play Tarutaru DRG. I had no issues doing any of the end game because I was Tarutaru melee. Yes, DRG was underwhelming because SAM did what DRG could but better with Spears since you could spam Penta Thrust very often but as you had great gear and good food to make up for that race deficit you could beat Elvaan on the same job that was decently gear. I remember trying WoW for a single week and I didn't like it at all funny enough. I was too spoil by FF11 world, graphic, lore, music, controller, jobs system and too used to FF11 to change an MMORPG that felt not fun to me.

I keep seeing Cox's cutscene reactions to FFXIV content and non combat shenanigans being recommended to me by the algorithm and loved it. So I decided I'd watch some of his combat gameplay too... No offence Cox, but your alliance carried your ass at several points lol also you didn't perform some basic tank responsibilities: 34:17 and 52:17 Not reliably mitigating tank busters (they were not on cd either, you just didn't use them) even when you had vuln stacks/low hp making your healers save you with heals and shields. 37:23 Getting locked out of the Ark Angels boss fight because you went off to read notes (which you can also do after the raid...you can do that for all alliance raids and dungeons btw so you don't have to fuck over your alliance for content/lore stuff) and making your dps eat the tankbuster and dying as a result. Kinda cringe when a tank let's their teammates die, just saying lol. Never interrupting a single mechanic during Ark Angels boss fight...I'm assuming you know what interrupt abilities are. You were literally fighting the fucking boss who was casting interruptible METEOR at 42:43 and someone else had to interrupt it for you (actually I just took a closer look at your hotbars in the video, you legit don't even have interject on your hotbar...wtf Cox lol). Honestly, you should do the new tutorials from the Hall of the Novice and/or read their updated Combat Guide. They teach a lot of the mechanical stuff you were struggling with in this video (except leaving your alliance to read notes, that's on you lol). Also the new Hall of the Novice trials give you a nice xp ring for any pre-lvl 60 classes that need the xp boost, it also stacks with the pre-lvl 30 xp ring from the OG Hall of the Novice in case you have any ARR jobs you haven't leveled yet. Just some food for thought. Anyways, critques aside, it was still a fun video overall. And it's always nice to hear the perspective of people who played FFXI too! Anyways, hope some of the feedback is heard (doubt it, but you never know lol)

@@ShermTank7272 I will never in my life understand how FF14v1's team looked at how in FFXI the auction house(s) and the Rolanberry Fields market/other tax-evading zoneline mule markets coexisted and decided that FF14 could only have one option, and then got rid of the centralized, searchable taxed market board. There are many other baffling decisions in 14v1 but that... what did they _think_ was going to happen when you had to go from retainer to retainer, one by one, one instanced room at a time, until you found what you needed?
