Finally, FINALLY, watched all of these VOD's. While I've played the game myself, that was an entirely solo experience as I had no friends to join me on my journey. Watching you play through it surrounded by friends was just incredible. ESPECIALLY the part in Ultima Thule. Big props to whoever came up with the idea of everyone disappearing slowly with each Scion. I think I'll take a break from these VOD's for a while before I catch up with the raids and patch quests, but this has truly been an unforgettable experience.

I do like though that when all the Scions are delivering their lines in the final day each one of their lines specifically relates to them as characters, even Y'shtola's simple "thus do we know" plays into her character as a scholar. It was a small detail they didn't need to add but it's cool they did

Wanted so bad to watch your streams but I had been going through Endwalker as well, and when I eventually finished I figured you might have already been done, but my hubby surprised me when he told me that you were streaming and getting to the G'raha speech and jumped in to watch and stayed to the end of the stream. Happy to have caught it at that moment and seeing all the people that gradually joined you through the journey as well as have RP moments along the way.

the irony about the Emet-Selch/Hythlodeus meme with Hythlo mocking what Emet said back in Elpis, there's the theory that the main reason Emet wanted to rejoin the worlds was because he wanted to get Hythlo back, we see in sundering cutscene when Venat passes Hythlo and Emet, Hythlo is saying goodbye it's thought that Emet didn't want Hythlo to be one of the sacrifices.

I still think Zenos talking to the "WoL" wasn't actually him talking to your character, but 4th wall breaking. He was talking to YOU. He was talking to the person behind the screen. YOU choose to play the game. To fight ever mightier foes, to test out your limits. YOU are doing trials, Ex fights, Savage, Ultimates. He is talking to the adventurer in you, that wants to experience new things, see new wonders, learn more about the world. At least that's how I understood it. I felt exposed. They knew exactly what they were doing. I couldn't answer any other way than "That, I can't deny." And that smirk, that damn smirk your character gives back to Zenos. It made the whole scene.
@camiart_casual

Ever since his big speech in Ala Mhigo I’ve always thought that was the case, that Zenos was never meant to be a foil to the WoL but to you as the player. (In my case I’m also an incorregible RP’er so I like to think that the WoL does feel like that but has used it for good… and feels a little seen by this “monster” and doesn’t know how to process that, but gives into indulgence for once at the end… bc Zenos can take it)

I really enjoyed your playthrough! It was also nice to see we picked the same choices like with G'raha's "No I can't. Not again" because I really felt that. I loved this expansion SO much. Alisaie's voice acting was so on point. It has been since SHB. My ONLY complaint about the story was the "give form to the formless" thing. I feel like shtola reminding our character that we had the power to bring them back killed all the tension leading up to the finale. If that revelation had been just before bringing the bois back, during the memories that played hydaelyn just reminded us, that would have kept the tension high and give us a glimmer of hope when things seemed the darkest.
@totalmadness3561

TBF the tension there was never "they are totally dead and we can't bring them back", it was moreso "we CAN bring them back, but if we do we undo every step of progress we made, screwing ourselves over". The tension there comes from the fact that we need an answer that isn't just calling them back, hence the other idea the WoL has

The big theme is in coming together against despair, and it's fun that even many of your foes, living or dead - Gaius Baelsar, Estinien, Ysayle, Elidibus, Emet - and even Zenos, the worst human being in the world - realise that, and join you in resistance, either before or during this last dance. You can even get a moment of respect from Amon/Fandaniel/Hermes. And with many of them, you no longer see them as former enemies, but present friends.

Honestly of all places for a deus ex machina this is the perfect place for it. It's dictated wholly by emotions. *Anything* can take form. Urianger surmises the same thing if you speak to him in the Waking Sands afterwards - suggesting that someone must have cast a wish into that space to deliver the teleporter unto you and return you back home. It's not directly stated that its Zenos - as I'm sure the devs never want to commit to something like that (which tbh I feel is a bit of a copout), but the insinuation seems to be he's the one who did it.

Dude, hate? Zenos straight up falls in love with the Warrior of Light; it's just that Zenos' love language is "A fight to the death" because it's the only thing that makes him actually feel anything. And I'm genuinely being serious about that. That is my interpretation of all that. Zenos' story, especially the way he shows up at the end here, is straight up a Fight-o-sexual romance. Because really - "I rode the light of the stars to you." Dude turned into a dragon so he could fly through the void of space to find you at the end of the universe... so that he could help you fight the end of the world in exchange for one last all-out fight with *you.* The literal end of reality itself is less exciting to him than getting one more fight with you. Dude's a complete psychopath, but from his perspective of "I live only for the thrill of a battle that pushes me to the edge of my limits and beyond"... what the fuck is that if not love? (also, as an aside, I *love* Zenos' dragon voice. He sounds awesome.)

My headcanon on the timeline used to be that every expansion was a year, so the beginning of ShB was year 4 in the making, but since then I've kinda thought about how long everything would take and I think of it like 2 years now. Not so long that characters would have visibly aged or it feels too spaced out, but also not too short that we should be dying from stress. About 8 months for ARR, 7 for HW (Maybe even less with the urgency for Nidhogg not destroying shit and Estinien distracting him before the possession), 5ish months for SB, and that puts us at a year and 8 months when G'raha yoinks us into the First. There I suspect only a month has passed in the Source, but G'raha did say time was wonky and would speed up and slow down making things weird which made me say that 2 months had passed in the First (And this is because all the sidequests like Nier and Eden are canon in my journey, plus just downtime while the WoLs are just waiting so I can write stories about my WoLs bonding with NPCs). That puts us at a year and 9 months the point where I think EnW also took place over the course of a month, maybe two because of the stressing during the story that no one could figure out wtf was wrong and why it was taking so long, running out of time, all that (Plus with us going to Elpis being at least a week [Hades said there were several days missing from his memories] or slightly more, but no actual time passing along with us being in the first for that, it didn't actually affect the Source's timeline). So a year and 10-11 months give or take weeks and all that. Again this includes all raids (normal and alliance), some of the longer sidequest chains, some time between expansions from when the post content shifts from ending the last expansion and starting the new one, and some days for downtime. It's really interesting to hear how some people think of the timeline for the story, I love it. It makes me smile to just go "It took place over 3 months because that's how long it took me to beat the MSQ :D" for kicks lol

Shadowbringers may have ultimately been the stronger story but EW was by far the hardest feels punch I've had in a long time. It hits so good in all the deep emotional places. I love it so much overall. Even its slow bits or frustrating bits were more well weaved into the story than in the past. And there are so freaking many side quests that also gave me deep feels. I politely disagree. I found Zenos himself boring - he had literally no character other than Do A Violence To Me. Adventure is about going to new places, meeting new people and having new experiences - he stopped being any of those after Stormblood, and he rejected the opportunity he had to actually learn something and change in favour of demanding we do a violence to him again. I didn't care about him enough to hate him. I just wanted him to leave.

@@XenosInfinity I thought similarly, until endwalker. I actually appreciate how single-minded he is in the modern era of complex villains with tragic backstories. He absolutely could've been used a bit better, especially in stormblood, but. Eh. Here's hoping stormblood eventually gets the ARR-polish treatment. Also, on a thematic level, he's extremely important - fandaniel/meteion, the WoL, and zenos all represent different philosophical answers to the meaninglessness of existence. Fandaniel embodies nihilism (in the negative sense - if nothing matters, end it all / embrace death), Zenos embodies hedonism (if nothing matters, do what feels good), and the WoL embodies positive nihilism / existentialism (If nothing matters, create your own meaning).

I speculate that the last "world" might have been blasted with something akin to a nuke, but which only obliterated all living beings instead of objects. How everything is seemingly left as it was, abruptly. And then theres that grey ash-looking 'dust' everywhere. I imagine some huge superweapon vaporized all life in an instant.
@TheOnlyFin
@TheOnlyFin Жыл бұрын
I originally thought this as well, but the last area is almost surely the first civilization Metieon unintentionally killed herself. The “dust” is what remains after they “evaporate” from the transformation. The lines from the twins are the clue. “There is no one here”. The despair in that place is the resignation of failed purpose. Up until that star Metieon had only found dead worlds, and the weight of those worlds coupled with failing Hermes overcame her. She drowned, and in drowning she killed that Star. That moment is probably the one we saw on Elpis. The moment the Metiea stopped being observers and began their song of oblivion.

Question... Have you ever done an ultimate? Grinded an extreme, an alliance raid or even a dungeon for glam? Maybe done some savages, just for a mount? Leveled up an alt job because you gre bored with your main, or just because you wanted to see how good that other job is? If the answer is yes to any of these is an yes, then yeah, zenos IS right about you, you can try to deny him as much as you want, but even the rper is still a player at heart, and that is what zenos is getting at, the only right answer is "that, i cant deny", and any other is just people trying to cope or blindly hate his character.
@andrewmiller6264
@andrewmiller6264 2 ай бұрын
If that was the “only right answer,” then there wouldn’t have even been other options. There is validity to the notion that Zenos’s is talking to the player, but from how I was playing my WoL all through Endwalker, option 1 makes absolutely no sense. Let me explain. More than likely I was being affected in game by my mental issues and I kept opting for options that conveyed the WoL as just being tired. I did X, Y, and Z because I had the power to do so, and someone had to do it. I’ve been on ground zero for damn near every single tragedy, lost a lot of people, felt the weight of “a thousand thousand world,” and then Zenos comes up and insinuates that I liked it, since it pushed me to become stronger? That somehow I enjoy throwing myself into danger just so others don’t have to be hurt? I like Zenos as a character, and I would not change 1 but if dialogue due to his relevance and the themes of EW. But no, option 1 was absolutely not correct for me. I was not happy to be fighting him, I needed to in order to stop him, and I wanted to silence him for is accusations of my supposed enjoyment of bad things happening to me and others.
@Kebin13
@Kebin13 2 ай бұрын
@andrewmiller6264 so basically, your headcannon of what the wol should be is the reason for denying zenos? So, your wol does absolutely NOTHING other than the msq? And you played one job trougouth the WHOLE GAME? And you never, ever did anything for the hell of it or the enjoyment of playing? Just the msq and nothing other than your rp? Sure, you do you, but endwalker (and even before that, on shadowbringer) the game starts to show us the wol ISN'T JUST a self isnsert of the player, and he as a personality of his own as well as his own way to see the world, that OCASIONALLY opens the dor for the player to rp a little, kinda like the hero on dragon quest, and you are MISSING THE POINT of what zenos is saying, he is not saying that the wol does what he does on the msq for the hell of it (altough we DO SEE the wol doing certain things in the msq to have fun) but that he chases rhe thrill of battle for its own sake (extreme trials, savage raids, etc, etc) because the wol is, at heart, an adventurer, je BECAME a hero trough his actions, but in his heart, he STILL is an adventurer, seeking ever higher trills and adventurers, like the azem before him, and the one before that, the wol is the perfect reincarnation of what the seat of azem was, the wandering adventurer, that was always seeking the next trill, the mext battle, the next adventure, and ALWAYS helping those in need in front of him. Seriously, you people that seems you feel this compulsive need to think the wol is this mentaly unstable battle scarred woe is me character are something elsez its like you NEED to insert all this edgy, im so deep bs just for the hell of it when the entire game shows us that, yes, while the wol carries sadness within him from his losses and failures, he is still A HERO, and he rises, and rises, and rises again to always meet the chalenge with a smile on his face, because thats what heroes do, they show us the peak of what humanity is, and yet people like you feel the need to drag down all the positive message these games are trying to say by using a hero with this 13 yo edgy bs, FFS even estinien is not as edgy in game as people like you make the wol out to be.

ARR to EW being 1 year isn't really that hard to believe, the main story of each expansion would span at best either 1 or 2 months, post MSQ another one and raids depend on the story but most would take a week tops considering their stories usually have a sense of urgency In ARR for example we could say that each primal takes a few days to take down because you gotta get to the zone, do the questline, do some dungeon maybe and then take out the primal In Shadowbringers you literally have a quest every X quests which is "go the fuck to sleep" It's honestly impossible for the story to take 3 or even reach 2 years unless there's literal months of "Absolutely nothing happened" between story events, which doesn't really seem possible as new plots begin and old ones reach their conclusion at the same time

Do you have any idea how long those boat rides would take? Especially to the east? That alone adds a month or two if time, not to mention all the side content that's at least implied to be canon

The raid storys typically have a sense of urgency and may just happen between patches, job and role quests happen alongside the story and I don’t think the boat rides take all that long, the boat to kugane is the longest and I don’t think it took more than a week (maybe 2 weeks max)

I don't hate Zenos multimately, he was fine in storm blood (more realistic than people give him credit for, and if you accept that the being strongest villain and the one we end on doesn't necessarily make him the main villain of that story then he's an adequate final battle) , varis would've been better for endwalker IMO (yes a lot would have changed, it would have been a very different endwalker). The garlemald arc gave me chills at least. So that wasn't nothing. But in the end he was just the most pathetic character. I hate the interpretation that he was talking to the player cos he definitely wasn't talking to me, that's most definitely NOT what either me or my wol are here for so that was just insulting that he thought that of us. Even from the "you like to fight" angle, when I do like a fight its not for any of the reasons Zenos thinks makes fighting great. He will never truly rejoice in the real glory of combat for he is no where near Susano or Sadu (or characters from the ew a raids). I prefer the interpretation that the device at the end came to us cos we wished for it or meteion sent it to us, not Zenos. He was pathetic, and that's what I ultimately like about him. I don't want him to be more than the pathetic man who was handed way too much power. In his patheticness I find appreciation for his character. Without it I just hate him and wish he hadn't been brought back. And he also better ducking stay dead this time. I will not forgive the devs if he doesn't.
