I came to that same conclusion. I was in a low level dungeon, and I was doing 180 on my ruin and my fairy’s embrace was 160. These are rough numbers, but that’s what I noticed.

Can you do a video comparing all the healers and they style the fit? I'm around lvl 8ish for sage/sch and I'm having trouble picking one, I can't tell if it's because I've played SCH longer, but it feels safer. However SGE feels so responsive, flashy, and mobile, with some abilities to me, seeming like straight upgrades. @FFXIVMomo

Scholar feels so good to play now. adlo shields are registered so fast and the responsive fairy is just *chef’s kiss* and Expedient is such a fun ability, can’t wait to use the new kit in Ex and Savage. ❤️

I completely underestimated how much the 1.5 sec cast fixes Scholar's problems. I knew it would feel good but it feels GREAT. They fixed the lack of weave space. They fixed the lack of free movement. They reduced pet delay. They improved shields. They added useful tools. The only thing they didn't address is the anti-synergy. But in all honesty, if you survived ShB Scholar, you can live with the massively improved EW Scholar. PS: They massively improved the ground targeting for controller players. It's MUCH more responsive.

I quit SCH in Shb cuz I didnt wanna deal with the jank and swapped to be Astro for barrier healing but since I was leveling SMN, I got SCH for free and I tried it out for fun after I heard that they made improvements and I'm so happy with all the changes now. It feels amazing to play.

@@ikkemenx Astro and WHM are Regen healers, SCH and Sage are Shield healers. Also AST and SCH are considered "support" focused Healers within those two categories because they have abilities that directly affect the parties damage output (cards for Astro and Chain Strategem for SCH), while WHM and Sage are considered "damage" healers as their kits more involve healing the party while also directly damaging the target

I've always liked scholar, but I wish they had more "fairy" in their moveset. Even if they kept the exact same kit but upgraded seraph's looks (to quote Titania: "Bigger is better"), or even made a small flower/grass meadow with their mitigation barrier, that would be so thematically COOL to me.

Along that line, I wish square would give us a fairy themed artifact set. The only fairy themed thing we have is the Eureka book, and technically one stage of the shadowbringers relic. I know it’ll never happen and we will be stuck being graduates for all our life probably but I can wish. I love the idea of meadow themed skills, imagine if art of war transitioned as we grew more attuned to the fairy to a flowery death thing like titania has.

Egh, my apologies but I have to disagree unfortunately. Why i rarely play whm is because it's too "pretty". Bad enough a scholar would have a fairy lol. At this rate, the only option some of us would have left is sage and that'll only be a matter of time.

@@jayr5mitty351 Personally WHM feels more "holy" or "divine" to me than pretty. And AST isn't so much pretty as it is...celestial? Mystical? Idk. And I love just how "cool" SGE feels to play, both visual and combat effects. As for SCH, I can see how you could think the fairy feels too cutesy for a class that's historically supposed to be about exposing and exploiting weaknesses (if we follow what Scholars are all about in the rest of the FF series, and technically even in their own FFXIV job quest line). I personally love the fairy aspect though, so we'll probably just have to agree to disagree. No problem with that. :)

I thought they massacred my boy. Turns out they made him tons better. I was upset that they changed almost nothing. But it was a bunch of little changes that really improved scholar. The 1.5 sec cast times made him crazy versatile. Ruin 2 makes him mobile in a way that the other healers only dream of. Protraction is an amazing buff. Expedient gets memed on but I always new it was gonna be good when I learned more about it. Adlo applying instantly feels so good. Eos being so snappy feels amazing. I used to hate fey union. Thought it was useless. Now with so much weaving space I can use it wherever with no dps loss. I actually use it when needed now. All this little things really add up to make scholar great again. Miasma 2 is still on my wish list tho. Edit: and yes. Art of War 2's animation is much better. I personally think Broil IV's animation is a marked improvenent.

Broil IV and Art of War II sound so CHUNKY, I love it. Expedient alone makes Scholar my new favorite healer to run for Expert Roulette, for running everyone through big pulls. I was fully ready to accept that this job was in the garbage, and holy shit am I so fucking happy to be proven wrong.

I feel the same way, this is the most fun I've had with the job since Stormblood. The Broil cast time is huge for weaving. And the fairy reaction time is pretty damn good as well. Just those 2 things makes the job feel so much better, and that's before you factor in all the new traits and skills.

I'm pleasantly surprised that I enjoy Scholar more than Summoner, I originally intended to only level SCH for the fast queue times but now I actually love it. Feels so good and so responsive, plus it's ridiculously strong in EX content currently since Expedient means everyone can greed like crazy :D

Expedient feels extremely good, and in large pulls, Scholar can manage over 1 minute of 10% damage reduction, which feels great. I had briefly touched SGE however, and using fairy abilities with you as the centre of it feels SO much better.

I have to agree with your statements for the most part. Scholar feels so nice to play. The GCD change to broil is something I never knew I wanted, it makes everything flow so well. The increased response time of Shield application and the Fairy is also just good QoL. As you put it already in the Media tour video "Scholar didn't really get much new stuff because it didn't really need to." Though obviously there is still room for improvement still. I hope this puts the "Scholar is dead" memes to rest.

I leveled SCH/SMN through the EW MSQ intending to main SCH... But I fell madly in love with the new Summoner. So far I haven't seen a lot different for Scholar since Shadowbringers, and I'm really okay with that because it's still a solid job that didn't need a total overhaul like Summoner did.

A note: there is a stupid amount of fairy gauge atm, you only have one way to dump it, so I believe they don't want targeted embrace specifically because we have fey pact. If you want a targeted embrace, think of it as that but with buildup time (It builds up fast, and if you don't use it, you're wasting resources for free healing)

Wooow lol. I was so ready to drop Scholar for Sage(dont like pet classes but love Shields and damage mitigation), but Sage really made me appreciate Scholar. Im playing on a new character(swapped servers) with nothing but AST and SGE, and honestly, the experience made me want to play Scholar and White Mage more(Ast isnt bad but for some reason, I just cant get with it rn, maybe in the future)

Great video, and I share much of the surprise / glee about how much better it feels to play - and I think many people are sleeping on it. Doing the normal trials, I've had several players say, "I take back everything I said about expedient". And that felt pretty good :) although I worry about not having a strong burst heal like Sage. As it is, I would be surprised if Expedient wasn't changed in the future, maybe something like a group wide Excogitation (which would tie in well with the other healers lvl90 skills) - Expedient can honestly feel absurd sometimes. And the fact there are still forced marches is the game has me concerned :p A few great things I feel didn't get a lot of mention: Energy Drain's recast to 1sec is not a huge change, but feels nice with the Broil change, and if we need to dump them fast, there's no risk of clipping. Fairy abilities were neutralized / balanced with pet scaling, but embrace did not get this rebalance and was directly buffed to 180 with the new scaling. The shielding improvement helps Succor during a boss raid wide cast time. Far too many times prior to endwalker, the shield delay would cause the raid wide to ignore it, and you end up having a your team at 10% health with a shield. I know ideally you should phase out Succor, but for prog, I do feel there is a time and place for it. Getting to enrage what I try to get my groups to, and optimize from there. And succor can allow a group to consistently see more of a fight. And during the new multi-stack aoe marker, I feel it's extremely effective, say if your co-healer is dead. Really love your vids Momo, and just giddy at having a place to discuss these changes :) Thank you! for making these!

I am so happy we were all proved wrong about new sch, I am loving sage but I am inclined to say that sch is better, at shielding at least. Certain skills make me think also that sch/sge comp could work, but it seems that ast/sch remains king from what I see. Havent done ex doe.

As a sch who's been getting a fair amount of sge, if you can communicate who is casting when (our single target/aoe shields don't stack, but regens do (physis+wd on a party who is taking damage is amazing) then absolutely you can tear shit up.

Overall I think I’m happy with the scholar they released. The 2 issues I have have are just dissipation anti synergy within its self and I really wish fey union followed the person I put it on 😂. Oh one thing I noticed about crit shields. Is the catalyst goes first when taking damage instead of galvanize. So you can crit shield, and deploy and not worry about galvanize being weaker.

Used SCH for my MSQ and I'm very impressed, it feels very strong. Compared to Sage, it feels like it has a lot more in dungeon content or for situations where your party is taking heavy damage and dying, Sage struggles a lot more to come back, at least from my experience.

@@Christopher-eq1rn I don't agree with this because Sage is all about DPS, not support, and it has way less resources than SCH. Truly, Sage should be the WHM equivalent since Kardia is single target and only works from personal DPS, it doesn't have any party buffs while SCH has CS, Protraction and Expedient for party utility, and even Addersgall works like lilies essentially. I think Sage needs a buff either for Kardia healing, Rhizomata should give 3 AG stacks and/or higher healing potency on regular Diagnosis and Prognosis.

@@ikkemenx Same, I got all the healers to 90 and SCH and AST feel way stronger than WHM and SGE(SGE suffers more though IMO), and the funny thing is, on FFlogs SGE is viewed as the strongest because in trials when you know how to use it or you have an optimized group that knows what to do, it's amazing, but in most content that's not a thing and when emergencies happen, SGE runs out of gas way too easily right now. Doing the new raids of AST and when paired with SGE it can sometimes feel great or like you're hard carrying the healing for them which so far, I haven't felt nearly as often when paired with the other healers.

@@ikkemenx This, it feels so much better for situations where shields are not enough because there are too many enemies or people don't know mechanics, SCH and AST feel like they never run out of options when everything goes wrong while WHM has to worry about MP and SGE has to worry about both AG and MP running out super fast in emergencies. I just did the new raids yesterday morning on AST and I can't even imagine trying to do them on WHM or SGE with no one knowing mechanics, I actually had a couple SGE co-healers and the struggle was real on the 3rd and 4th fights specifically because there was just way too much avoidable damage and deaths happening.

The 1.5s GCD Broil is a massive buff to SCH because its the only healer with so many oGCD to weave, you can now rely more on your Fairy due to this, and she's more responsive. The huge shield buffs make it so powerful with crit Adlo deploy too.

I was always one of those players that scoffed at Scholar. I'd heard it was bad, therefore I never touched it. On a whim I decided to do all of its story quests over day. Once I took it into a dungeon I almost immediately fell in love with the class to the point that it's my main. It feels SO good to play and heal on.

I wish I could excitedly talk about Dark Knight in Endwalker, but seeing as the 90 capstone is just Flood of Shadow 2.0 it feels kinda half baked. Not to mention Salt and Darkness came at the cost of Carve and Spit's CD being tied to Abyssal Drain. That and there's no amount of lore videos I can make to hype up a skill like Oblation! But, wonderful work as ever my friend!

I love SGE, but god damn I miss my Excog... not only that I feel it is sooooo much easier to do wall to wall pulls on SCH than it is on SGE and I am not entirely sure why. Anyone else experiencing this?

Yes and no. I think it's partly comfort with the kit. Sage's hiama /pamhiama is insanely good at keeping a tank alive. But scholar feels like you can always keep that healing up. Each pull it's very much a fire and forget situation with scholar. Prep with shields and recit excog, throw down a sacred soil, fairy will do it's thing and your golden, next pull excog, whispering Dawn, seraph/aetherpact. Scholar, for the most part, one you set up for the pull, you can ignore the tank for a while Sages kit requires you keep up damage, and yes there is some set up, but you can't keep the same amount of regens on the tank, forcing you to pay attention to health a bit more if you're not keeping up damage. Both seem to suffer once you get behind or run out of single Target healing options. Sage seems to suffer a bit more on a new or panicky healing situation because you stop attacking. While fairy doesn't care. I love that sage keeps getting it's addergal stacks out of combat, but dissipation should be used at the end up pulls to keep your stacks up too. I think both kits play similar in dungeons, and both require you to be comfortable with the kit to really shine.

Sage feels more punishing if your tank hp drops below safety line. Sch is more forgiving.

@@SaltyDitchDr1275 definitely pros and cons to both addergal/aetherflow. Addergal is more approachable/consistent, but you can also have 9 aetherflows available for wall-to-wall pulls. I'm not saying one is better than the other - the opposite really, that they are very similar, but still very different and unique.

I thought that at first but to me sage feels a lot like resto druid from wow (relied mostly on damage reduction and dot heal stacking). I find sage to be SUPER comfy in dungeons almost every pull I'll pre shield then kera + haima, which is most of the time enough. then cycle phisis 2, panhaima and taurachole to keep hp level. If things are REALLY bad or tank is't using mit properly i'll throw in holos since it's 10% damage reduction that stacks with your other dr spells. It's just about gauging how much damage the tank will take and stacking just enough mitigation + regens to keep them level, overhealing them will lead to you running out of steam fast

My main complaints are we have far and away the fewest DPS options and no way to pick ourselves back up after we get rezzed. SCH’s job fantasy is that of a military mage, and it shares the namesake of a Black and White hybrid caster from a FF title. So it’s particularly egregious that we’re the worst healer at DPS and the fact we’re the only healer that basically REQUIRES aftercare if we die just adds insult to injury. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve died right after being rezzed because of the sheer number of buttons I had to press to get back into the fight. No power healing oGCDs mean I have to hope my cohealer will save me.

Adloq + the skill that turns shield to instant heal. Energy drain giving charges. Then use the group wide heal. Scholar is the weakest pure healer still. Their kit is STILL locked after 3 charges. But their shields are much better. Adlo is still your go to BENE of a white mage. It cost the most mana but pair it with fairy and physicks to survive dungeons. Succor is even more powerful than before. I dont see a drastic potency increase for SCH other than succor and Adloquim but those are your go to skills when aether flow runs out. Its a slap in the face that energy drain dont give mana or not as much though. SCH adloq is a huge mana burn compare to other healers. And most other healers have stronger and more mana efficiency heals.

Multiplicative: 1.1*1.1*1.2*1.5 = 2.178 So, 540p base shield becomes 1176p shield. It pretty much doubles everyone’s HP. (Except tanks. Adds maybe 50-60% to them.) Mix with a PLD using Passage of Arms or Divine Veil, it can completely negate the damage from mechanics with shield to spare. The main comments I’ve gotten are people on the chonky-ass shields I can throw out. I’ve been getting a lot of folks loving having a SCH in the group coz “Great Wall of Nym”, Chain Stratagem, and Expedient are amazing.

I am glad it feels fine, but it is just that: fine. Dissipation still works against the SCH kit as a whole and SCH is the only healer to be locked out of its skill thusly. Instead of relying on a dissipation energy drain combo to do a small amount of additional dps it would be nice to have a button that did not work against SCH's kit that was an "oh shit" button, and a dps skill that could be used regardless of aetherflow as other healers, again, do not need to sacrifice healing capability to use burst tools (Something like Phlegma with charges and a CD, another note: SCH has had the ability Meltdown before and this would be a great place for it). Over all, it is fine, but there is much room for improvement to have a cohesive class.

If they wanted to go for maximum laziness they could just make dissipation not remove the fairy and add no healing potency increase, just give Aetherflow stacks. Also just make energy drain an oGCD with 3 stacks and a 20 second cooldown. Idk, it isn't rocket science to fix that little bit of derpiness.

A couple of thing I noticed while paying SCH, but haven't corroborated. The shield UI applies before it is actually considered to block damage. I critlo'd a tank who had on HP, and he died to an auto. I think, timing wise, it's the same as ShB, but now the icon of Galvanize/Catalyze and the yellow bar appears before the shield "applies." I think this is for spreadlo reasons. Has anyone else experienced this? Or am I just having funky net issues? I believe, one time at least, that the Catalyze shield got eaten before the Galvanize. I don't think I was succoring. Need to play around with this more to confirm. Tanks have so many icons next to them now it's hard to tell these days.

I experienced the opposite. it seems to land at the same time as the heal now. If he died to an auto, something else was likely going on, like he had a debuff that an aldo shield would of not saved him from.

@@JohnWeberS Was the Level 81 dungeon. I don't think the ads apply debuffs. Possibly it was those little buster/cleaves they do that dunk on the tank, but again, it was a critlo and there was only a few ads left. I've seen the HP go down w/ the shield applied. This is why I say I have not corroborated it yet. I'll keep healing on SCH to see if I can reproduce.

@@heylookitsnana There is something in the leveling dungeons that just hit like a truck. Even when running with pure healers, it was not uncommon to have the tank die in a wall to wall pull with 3 mobs left. There is a window of when your skill goes off - but the damage comes before it, the best example I can think of is running as gunbreaker, having your hp go to 1 with Superbolide - cooldown activates, and still dying. Another is when a WHM casts benediction, and it goes on cooldown, but they still die. If you are familiar with sildecasting, that is when a skill 'goes off', and it's based off your latency. Prior to endwalker, your heal would go off at the 'slidecast' mark, but your shield would apply after the slidecast window. It now applies during when slidecast is available. To test this, place an emote on your hotbar, when your cast is available for slidecasting, the emote will become available. This is when shields now apply.

@@JohnWeberS yeah I get that. It is prob that but it's super annoying. My issue is that before, when the shield icon and the yellow bar was on the party list, the shield was there. There used to be a delay between finishing the cast and applying the shield in the UI. (Or maybe, this issue always existed but because the shield applies faster the delay is bigger.) Recently, In a few different instances i saw the HP would go down before the shield even tho the shield icon and the yellow bar as in the player. I could still spreadlo instantly. I'll report back to you later today.

@@heylookitsnana As a side note, I think I figured out the damage. It seems some of the mobs get much stronger/enrage the longer they are alive, so it's somewhat punishing if you just aoe them down. Still manageable, but punishing. I doubt it'll make people focus on them :p

@momo is seraphic veil and consolation also nerfed in EW? As in, back in shb i swear they would refresh their duration with each application regardless of potency. eg. The second consolation would always refresh the shield duration with new shields. Now it seems they got the succor/galvanize effect and will only write over the existing shield if it's stronger than the previous. This affects the second consolation a lot more since you can no longer confortably refresh the last shielding duration.

I thought this was always the case for even consolation? I pre-pull seraph alot in savage shb and I think I've seen a fair share of "Consolation has no effect" on the 2nd charge because they either heal less or the first one crit healed.

You're able to apply a stronger shield than succor if you prep it right. Also you can preplan when to use deployment for insta shields on everyone, they increased the radius of the spell also so it's definitely amazing than using succor alot.

@@BoyKen16 yea just read the changes, adlo is now 180% and succor 160%. they used to be both the 125%. its looks useful now, tbh i never had it in bar because of that lol. still wished it would spread catalyze too thou

@@mikereyes4338 Adlo + Deploy was always stronger than Succor because the 125% is based on the potency of the heal you're using, and Adlo is the stronger heal. Succor was still useful in a pinch or if people weren't stacking for Deploy, but Deploy was better if you could get it off.

@@Shindashi I was very disappointed with the endwalker job changes not because of the job trailer or whatever (I honestly couldn't care less, it's not like you can gleam that much useful info from a skill animation) but because healers remained mostly one button jobs. The fact that scholar is better than it was in ShB means very little to me because it was already the worst version of the job we had ever gotten up until that point (from an engagement standpoint). I was hoping SCH of all the jobs would at least get like ONE DoT back but it seems that hope was false after all.

Ruin II is an antiquated relic of ARR, and the only reason it's still not been shed is that it being a generic insta-cast attack is too useful to let go. They need to give it an upgrade, new name, animation, maybe even an additional effect. Same for Energy Drain. Make it dump all remaining stacks at once for a big MP recovery, bigger with each stack consumed. It's weaksauce placebo stuff, and leaning hard into it as the only remaining complexity of the job is not a good idea when we had beloved complexity like Bane stripped out with no replacement. And if it weren't for fan complaint, we wouldn't even have that pittance, since they seem to badly want to get rid of Energy Drain or otherwise strip it of its MP management function and keeping damage absolutely negligible

I knew I wasn't going to enjoy it much going in but I never thought it would be that jarring not to have to think about your weaving window anymore. It dumbed the job down so much that it's lost the appeal for me. I'm a player who was looking for more to do and in the end I got less. Oh well, SGE turned out pretty nice anyway so I guess I can just switch.

Protraction has speciffic wording : Increases HP recovery via healing actions by 10%. Actions in ffxiv are GCDs while abilitis are oGCDs, that means that the buff for healin aplis for Adlo,Succor, Lilly heals, etc. But Excog, lustrate, tetragramaton, etc wont benefit. At least that is how i under stood it because it is the same with disipation and fey ilumination.

Actions means anything. Nature's Minne from Bard for instance, states it increases the potency of healing actions by 20%, and it affects all healing, GCD and OGC. Meanwhile, Dissipation and Fey Illumination states it increases healing *magic* potency and only works on GCDs as they are labled as spells. So thankfully, Protraction buffs all heals, which can be definitely be really helpful ^^

I actually don't mind it at it is (but seem to be in the vast minority in this). We have Fey Union for when we need to focus it, it's much more accessible with the broil change and that you won't risk not being able to use fey blessing. Otherwise, it does a good job of leveling out raid hp pools - which i feel lower the amount of overheal aoe heals do. And when I'm playing a dps and i get an embrace that saves my life.. well, that's love right there.

Can someone explain why expedient is good? SE isn't going to design savage raids around the ability or else SCH would be a requirement in all savage raids, so the only use of SCH's 90 ability is to make raids a little easier? IMO the best part of expedient is the 10% damage reduction for 20 seconds, but I see everyone harping about how amazing the movement speed buff is, when it isn't.

It's _because_ they don't design around it is what makes a free extra sprint for the whole group so good. Any time you can't sprint, but if you have individuals falling behind in high movement mechanics, it's just super good for catchup, and for increasing uptime in prog scenarios. Sure it's less useful once the fight is solved nad for speedkilling, but so is a lot of tools, and a 10% 20c DR is still super strong.

Nothing wrong with liking something in FF14 even if it's unpopular, bashed on by the playerbase, labeled negatively, etc. The game gives options, and if one like said options more power too them and screw the haters.

Scholar isn't going to get some massive overhaul as it doesn't really need it. This isn't Heavensward anymore and the Scholar itself is how Square Enix wants modern healers to be. The only thing it would need a rework in at this point is Energy Drain which is controversial at best.

I also main SCH and never thought it needed much re-work, just better Fairy AI (faster). But they basically make the job so much more enjoyable with 1.5s Broil now since its so ogcd heavy compared to other healers.

@@devildante9 as a scholar main, yes? :p To elaborate, I’ve always felt scholar’s jankiness was countered with a powerful toolkit. And if you can work around the jank, you’re overpowered IMO. Endwalker fixed 75% of the jank, and that’s why I feel we didn’t get a new heal. I don’t want a rework, because I like don’t want them to rip up this really unique kit. 5 skill pre-pull opener? Yes please :)
