Agreed! There's been many times where I've gone there to farm something and I just end up flying up to the Elpis-flower grove and just sit there, feeling all the feels. I won't lie, though... It took me awhile to work up the courage to go back there with the music playing, lol. I was just so distraught (but... in a good way? *thinks*) after going through all of this, Close in the Distance just tore the wound in my heart open each time I heard it for awhile. The fact that Close In The Distance isn't complete until after G'raha's sacrifice, that the lyrics don't come into play until after he fades... It's almost like he's the one singing to us. His part broke me, especially once the song played in full. G'raha is the reason I even continued playing XIV. During Stormblood's launch when Crystal Tower was still optional, I was close to quitting for good due to various reasons. But, doing the side quests on a whim, and seeing him go to sleep knowing that his future would be guided by our legacy, gave me enough incentive to keep going. And I'm glad I did.

Honestly what sold me on them being gone for good this time wasn’t the 10 years of this storyline coming to an end, but the fact that everything lose end wise was tied up before we arrived here. Urianger made peace Moenbryda’s family, the twins came to an understanding with their father, and then we spent segments of time with each of them: taking naps, eating good food and having a few alcoholic drinks and then Alphinaud’s trailer speech about wanting to thank us before it was too late…on top of this being like the 5th time (I think?) Y’shtola has “died” now I was ready for them to just be gone, especially after they decided to have her explain that Azem’s magic could bring them back but it would destroy all the work they did to get us this far…boy was I a mess when they actually came back…
@Ramotttholl
@Ramotttholl Жыл бұрын
The whole Azem's Magic thing i thought at the time was just an excuse so they can allow the Trust system to be used in the next Dungeon and trial after all those are normally the times you summon ppl in anyways.
@Kozmokast
@Kozmokast Жыл бұрын
The magic used to bring them back I guess was the previous Azem’s magic, but I feel like some might forget the specifics while sobbing. Also aside from the sword wound in Stormblood I think Y’shtola has only been in the life stream twice, so I have no idea where that 5 times comes from.
@SkilledLegend
@SkilledLegend Жыл бұрын
@@Kozmokast two times in the lifestream, stabbed by Zenos, Emet using his magic to knock her and the rest of the Scions out, and Ultima Thule. I guess it depends on if you believed they were dead during the scene before you fight Hades where they were all out for the count. That’s 5 times they tried to convince you she may have died altogether. I’m not sure what that’s really supposed to mean? I knew it was the previous Azem’s magic it doesn’t change the fact that they had Y’shtola exposition to every single player as to why doing it was impossible at the moment of her demise. Unless you were expecting some kind of power of friendship overcoming the burden of them trying to uphold a path for you ending it wasn’t very intuitive at all that they would exposition dump “no don’t do this” only for it to be like “just kidding you do it anyways :)”
@elibbabats
@elibbabats Жыл бұрын
Ahhh, that's such a great point! Everything really WAS tied up before they left! I guess, thinking back on things, I even knew that something monumental was going to happen because of all of that... because we were tying things up, so to speak, before we departed Etheirys... never in my wildest dreams did I think that ALL of them would be dying though, and man, I was in such denial at first, lmao. What a heart-wrenching journey, and one I wish I could go back in time and do all over again.
@SuperInu

The thing for me that gave it away that none of them were really gone was when it happened to all of them. I was definitely convinced Thancred was gone and could have bought Estinien as well. But the more it happened, the more I felt that everybody would be fine at the end. The parting scenes still hit me but overall I very much began to expect things to go well. Which is, I admit, kind of bittersweet to me. On one hand I'm glad they're all okay and still with us but on the other, that everyone came out of this physically completely unscathed is one of the very few small complaints I have with this expansion. The stakes were immensely high but we made it through without any permanent sacrifice (potential psychological scars aside) and when it comes to story telling that usually doesn't sit quite right with me, personally. Alphinaud's trailer speech is most likely factoring into that, too, as well as the death fake-outs we had for the Scions throughout the game so far.

Fun fact: The game was delayed for roughly 2 weeks, and one of the major reasons for it is the speech Emet gives at the end about visiting other places in Eorzea and being the bearer of Azem's crystal. This is what happens when you read/watch/listen to a good story. You become part of the characters, and when one may die, it makes a little bit of you die too. Don't worry about the tears, the tears mean you're human, you have emotion. It is much better to let those tears out than to bottle them in. That's where the bad things come from. No matter how many times I watch people play through this, it still feels like the first time. I think seeing the same emotions that you felt being expressed creates a... union of sorts.

Every sacrifice spurring me onward. Every quest title becoming more and more distorted and cryptic. Every shade's voiced line on the final walk, I repeated their names. The appearance of Elpis flowers made me gasp in sheer awe. Beyond this, the final dungeon, trial and instance. It was a MOMENT. I love Ultma Thule. I only recently finally caught up to everything a few months ago and i ended up finishing all the way from Elpis through to the ending credits in a single soul destroying session of 9 hours. I did this all the day prior to the 12th anniversary of my fathers passing and i was already in a bad spot mentally. To have a piece of media resonate with you at such a perfect moment in life has re-solidified my love for this game and community. I somehow, someway managed to hit a time on the server that NO ONE was in the zone, so when it came time to do the walk with the twins and then THE WALK, the only person i had with me was my spouse quietly letting me go through it. To this day i break at The Walk. It opening and been bookended by Ardbert, the quotes from people we've befriended. The line that absolutely devastates me without remorse is always Midgardsormrs: "Strong thou art Mortal." this was kinda of a rambling post but its nice to see a kindred spirit ALSO felt so so heavily throughout this sequence.

I will always cherish and have the highest of love for the story parts of FFXIV. It's one of the most emotional experiences I've ever had with any game or movie. Shadowbringers and Endwalker in particular. Music and pictures from those two games still invoke incredible emotion to this day. It all just came together so beautifully. It's crazy how you can feel loss when the characters are all fictional. But none the less, thinking of Emet-Selch, Elidibus, Hermes, Hythlodaeus and Venat... It invokes that feeling. I will never forget how great of an experience this game has been. I've played a lot of games, and nothing has or probably ever will surpass those experiences. Excellence in all aspects.

My father had passed away very unexpectedly under very tragic circumstances a couple of months before EW came out and I was severely depressed, and going through ultima Thule felt like torture but almost ended up feeling like grief therapy by the end. When these lyrics kicked in, I seriously felt like they had written and made this song for ME, to tell ME it was going to be ok. I'm sure there are a lot of people who had similar experiences. Some say FF10 is the best FF bcs it made them cry and left a strong imprint as they were growing up. For my generation it was Aerith Gainsborough's and FF7. Trust me when I say that having lived in the moment those games were shiny and new, having played them, having waited for them for days and months in anticipation with only magazines to hype myself up, getting wrecked emotionally and feeling satiisfied by the end of the journey certainly makes me understand the people that say such things. Trust me when I say that FF14 stands, to me, head and shoulders above those games, because it wrecked me like none of those did, and at the added difficulty of me being a hardened by the school of hard knocks that is life cynical grown ass 40 year old. FF7 and 10 were playing on easy mode, while 14 was on frigging nightmare mode. This game is really something especial. Thanks for sharing your experience with us, so that we can relive those moments along with you.

If only your viewers had shown even a modicum of restraint and not been with you throughout the zone. The entire zone, a once-in-a-lifetime experience, is about loss and loneliness, and it was robbed tbh. The streamers whose chat stay away and only appear at the end have such a transcendent reaction to it, knowing they weren't alone and others were with them all along. Was a great video regardless of that personal gripe, and your reactions to the events were pretty much mirrored by a lot of us who played this game. Hope you continue to have fun!

53:06 For me it was after this scene and the vocals came in that was the moment that I lost my composure and just cried. There are very few games that have me tear up (example Asura's Wrath. There's a scene where a small village gets bombed to hell and the female that Asura was trying to protect dies along with eveyone else there. Now the girl looks just like his daughter that he thought was long dead. After seeing her lifeless body Asura went completely berserk.) I literally cried for about 15 to 20 minutes during this part.

As the game continued to ramp up in popularity the team decided XIV should continue and they altered the plan to keep you all alive.

I had my suspicions about them living at the end, but the possibility of them being dead dead was always there since this was the end of the saga, and the sacrifices were written well enough. But there were a few moments that really got me. Thancred's set the stage but not the status quo, so the most tension came right after the horror film feeling on the ship and his disappearance. The others were done well, but I was hit hard again once it was just the WoL and the twins. It didn't escape me that they're still just kids, and their dialogue was painful while climbing the crystal path. Alisaie's especially, as I got quite attached to her character in the lead up to SHB, and then more so throughout SHB and EW. She was written in a very human way with a lot of anxiety and frustration, and her empathetic treatment of the WoL was charming. So her emotional dilemma after Graha's sacrifice busted my heart wide open. And then the Walk with a capital W. I was fairly convinced the scions come back by that point, but I was very immersed in the weight the WoL must have felt; alone at the end of the universe, facing existential despair, the only person standing in the way of complete annihilation of everyone he knew and loved. And so when the music hit, and then the voices of other characters spoke up, that's when I really just broke down and let the tears go. The last big moment for me was the elpis flower field and Meteon remembering Hermes' promise of a flower. The entire expansion once the plot twist about the villain was revealed, I felt really sorry for meteor and hoped we could save her, so I was invested in that moment when she remembered the promise of hope. All in all, the zone tore it out of me, and I enjoyed it immensely :)

AHH, I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I don’t know what it is about the Elpis flower field scene and meteion (I mean I do, it was well constructed scene with animation and music and shtuff) but it tears me apart every. single. time. I watch it. It’s just so heart wrenching to see her crumble knowing she’s seen so much and yet these flowers were the key to opening her heart. AHHHH. It’s SO good. 😭

Finished this expansion not too long ago with no breathing room after shadowbringers... now, there are things that have made me sad, but talk about a gutpunch to the feels. I literally had to stop and process after Estinien was gone, both his and Thancred's sacrifice were a shock to me. I cried when Urianger told us he was going to sacrifice himself, then he *and* Y’shtola left. I had to take a break when it came down to G'raha and the twins, I broke down. I could barely see during The Walk. Then it was happy tears when [redacted] and I got [redacted]... then sad (and also happy, because they need to rest) tears when [redacted] again. Then happy tears when [redacted]. When I tell you, I NEEDED [redacted]. It was just a nice cathartic release.

A note about what you said at the end: . . . Chat and your friend weren't lying.They were really gone. Every single one of them die and are unmade in front of you. They still live through that experience and face it willingly, one by one. It's just that this is a story of magic and just like Emet plucking Y'shtola from the life stream in Shadowbringers or Zenos coming back in Stormblood or two half-faded souls of the dead showing up here, strong enough magics can still pull a person back from the dead.
