This game has very elaborate fishing! I love fishing so i'll probably enjoy this game more. I find fishing very relaxing and is a welcome activity that takes the mind off the usual mob/quest/dungeon grind. Downloading the game right now. Good video!

@@SamsonGrey26 I'm sure I will once the game will stop crashing at startup! ☹ I clicked the restore button in settings thinking it would just check integrity of files, but it seems to have deleted the entire game and is now restarting the entire download. 🙄So, in another 2½ hours I can try again to get past the crashing at startup. Bummer!

A minor note about something you mentioned in the guide: Only BIG fish have the gathering requirements, common tier fish (and Fabled Legends in Ocean Fishing - the Blue Background fish) do not have hard gathering requirements, and can be caught at any gathering level. However, they have a soft gathering 'expectation' but nothing that prevents you from catching them. It is possible for someone with 400 gathering to catch Lv90 common tier fish in Ultima Thule. It's not efficient, quick, or guarenteed, but it is doable!

Thanks, always appreciate the finer details! To be clear when you say soft gathering expectation does that mean it can be caught but has a higher chance of getting away than if you had sufficient gathering?

@@SamsonGrey26 correct. For example Blue Crab in Kholusia is a common tier fish, you should have Lv90 gear (even 5.0 script gear) to catch it. However, you can use lower level gear. It will just take longer to bite and have a higher chance to get away. There is one (sorta two) exceptions to this, the first of which is Mayashell (which you covered in a video) - it does have a gathering minimum require despite being common tier (it technically also has a perception minimum too if you want Glioaether). Secondly, Spearfishing also has a good illustration soft requirements as well (along with a hard req). If you go to Othardian Lumpsuckers with Lv60-70 gear, you won't see hitboxes, and are unable to spear fish. Higher gathering leads to higher sized hit boxes for spearfishing (up to a specific cap). It's a bit nuanced, but something I've commonly seen asked in the fishing community.

cast light is actually very useful, helps my eyes more quicker to caught attention whenever looking on other screen. Also when having other sounds on, hence the sound when fish caught bait weren't noticeable, the light shaking does help catch my attention as well. Yes, in this main example, fishing while watching streams, coz who can stay very long on one of very monotonous activities such as fishing... 😅

Nice guide! Catching big fish is pretty lucrative though, especially ones that desynth into swimsuits, cloths, and sandles. Those fish are up so often that you could catch a few in a day and stockpile on glams.

Thanks Sydney! umed and ahhed about delving into big fish more in gil making as experimented with a few of the classics like giganshark and on multiple occasions I failed to catch 1 within the time threshold that I was using to compare methods (maybe just my bad RNG!), ultimately choosing not to include them. But you are absolutely correct, some of the swimsuits etc.. do sell well (price and semi-decent frequency) if your stars align! why did'nt you try moon aethersands with spearfishing? you can get like 300 1h going for 400k on the Light data center.

It's a great shout and i'll fess up, until more recently i didn't realise there were two spearfishing options for gilled topknots (the fish for moonlights if anyone is unaware) and thought the only option was the one forcing you to get the 10 pre-requiste fsh, which is hideous! Though Endtides from lampsuckers are still holding better value and thus generally more profitable, if looking to repeat regualry i'd recommend mixing it up and getting some endtides and some moonlights as generally its quicker to sell smaller amounts of 2 items, than flooding too many of one!

Yep white script vendor in radz, I think the folklore tomes are the only item specific to radz tho as otherwise there are script vendors in every city.

Yep the quest should still be there for you. I think the only perquisites are having done the inscrutable tastes quest to unlock collectables and I think there's a level 50ish msq quest.

@@SamsonGrey26 Yes, found it and thank you! Once last question, I haven't finished Endwalker yet, and only have lvl 80 fishing gear. When I get to the lumpsuckers (lvl 90 spearfishing nodes), the fish do not have a hit indicator. Is this due to my low level in Gat/Per? Thank you again!

@@mrwhitelight92 oooh, yes I not 100% (chip in anyone who has a better answer) but I'd guess its gear related, needing a bit more of the gathering stat. Ensure you have the collectable ability/buff up as well else you won't be able to use atherial reduction if there not caught as collectables.

technically you can, you still get scrips from that, so you can buy the bait that is only available through scrips and sell that on marketboard

Only for certain fish around ARR and HW and Ocean Fishing. For the most part, they will remain at 3 (they standardized the gathering in ShB and onwards)
