For that dreadful moment when you do have to open your armory I made a macro that sorts every single armory tab by descending item level, that way all the gear will be organized according to their ilvl which makes picking out lower level gear you might no longer have need for a lot easier, as every single time you swap gearsets some of the stuff gets shuffled around a bit. The macro is basically like a defragmentation button for your armory. /isort condition armoury ilv des /isort execute armoury

Here's one I use that I'm not sure if many other people do: When I was first learning some jobs, it annoyed me how mousing over a spell/ability on my hotbar would bring up that tooltip which covered other actions on my hotbar, so I found a way that you can make the "action help" hover boxes slightly transparent. Personally I think this is a major improvement. 1. System -> Character Config -> UI settings -> General Tab -> Help -> Change "Display action help" from "Next to cursor" to "Fixed" (Or disable it entirely if you want), apply the changes 2. Go to System -> HUD layout, click on the Action Help box. Next to where it says "Current UI element / Action Help" click UI element settings which is the little cog next to it. 3. You can change transparency settings & Size, personally I have it at 12% transparency with 100% size. 4. save changes here, and go back into character config and change action help display back to "next to cursor". Now, you'll have slightly transparent tooltips that follow your cursor so you can still fully see your hotbars when you're reading the text :)

One tip that I did for myself quite some time ago and often think that new people would benefit from, when running alliance content, is to change your own party's name color to be something different than the other alliances' colors, so that if there's a "get with your group" mechanic, you'll have an easier time identifying your own party members to get with. For example, my own party names display blue, but other alliances display green, in my settings. So I know whenever there's an add phase in an alliance boss fight and each alliance is supposed to take a separate one, I'm with my blue folks. You can do this under Character Configuration > Display Name Settings > Others, then just change the "Party Members" to whatever color you want, that is different from the others.

More important (for me) as ALT+P makes you write in the party chat (and so on) is ALT+R to replay whispers. Pressing ALT+R 1 time you'll send a message to the last person that has send you a tell. pressing it twice, it jumps to the person before this person and so on. that also works if you had logged out and/or this person isn't online any longer. Some Kind of /tell history. very usefull for me ^^ You also have: ALT+Y -> Yell, ALT+A -> Ally Chat, ALT+C -> Crossworld Linkshell, ALT+L Linkshell. For the last 2 ones: If you press the shortcut again it will switch to the next (crossworld) linkshell if you have more than one. I'm a new player and I had to do this. I found I was running through the world and my eyes were basically deleting the character models in my field of view and focusing solely on names and health bars. The clutter was real. After I turned them off, running from point A to point B was so much more immersive. Enemies look more like they are living in their environment, rather than just being random names I fly by. Sometimes I don't even realize there's a mob or group hidden in the grass, which forces me to keep an eye out for them, further increasing my immersion and awareness. Before my mind was basically glossing over the enemy models because all that mattered was names and health bars, now that I am forced to look at just the enemy,I notice so much more detail.

Here's my tip and trick for folks recording video of FFXIV. In the Chat Log settings, you can enable your 4th channel and only select the things you would be okay with people seeing while you're recording. You can also use that to modify your existing filters. I usually disable stuff like "Other's Synthesis Messages" since if I'm chilling in a city, there's usually an unending stream of those.

Here are the interesting tips and settings that I didn't find out until I was more experienced in the game: There is an option for turning off combat music, which will... turn off combat music so that the zone music doesn't get interrupted. It's nice for immersion. Also it disables some FATE music, but not the boss FATEs. FATE music is way too loud and obnoxious, so I like this setting. You can also turn off mount music. There is a hotkey for returning the camera to default position, which I use frequently. I like to adjust my camera distance to max while fighting. But while moving around/questing I prefer being zoomed in, so I frequently reset my camera with the hotkey, which is nice. There is a hotbar setting that will keep your bar the same even when switching jobs. I find this useful for certain buttons that I use for all my jobs, like emotes, teleport, etc. You can hide the minimap. I find that the minimap is redundant for me, since I use the main, big map most of the time. So I just hide the minimap for extra screen space. You can hide the chat interface by right clicking on it and selecting Hide. I find the chat can be distracting while doing the MSQ, so I like hiding the chat whenever I'm questing.

Standard Type Movement was introduced specifically for Mouse+Keyboard based on the system from World of Warcraft because I guess at the time YoshiP and his team had grown accustomed to that style and knew that MMO players at the time were accustomed to this form of movement while 1.0 used the same system as FFXI which is the legacy system which is based on controller/console controls, basically flight stick controls. It was added to try to make ARR more accommodating to people who came to the game from pre-existing western MMOs. However, right after Heavensward released the developers shifted their focus; They abandoned the WoW-Clone approach to the game and instead shifted it in a direction based entirely on the feedback and desires of FFXIV's community. Basing ARR on WoW saved FFXIV, I won't deny that and both WoW and Blizzard deserve their credit for inspiring YoshiP and his team with the direction they took to save the game; But after that point, they went their own path and FFXIV is far from the WoW clone it begun it's life as to the point where end game boss fights are so far removed from that of the WoW like boss fights of ARR and Heavensward 3.0 base content (the 5 starting dungeons and 3 trials that came at launch), especially so since Stormblood that the combat is so intense at end game that Standard controls hamper players from being able to maximise their own potential at damage output while dodging mechanics. Good luck trying to melee Savage and Ultimate with Standard controls, I don't even think it's possible anymore. Also here's a tip: In WoW you can change the game's movement settings to that of the same as FFXIV's legacy settings but it has to be done manually though hotkey reassignment... which is annoying. Also the double click to cast template abilities immediately on target is a quality of life feature added shortly before Endwalker released. Before then we had to set up Macros. A lot of these features have been added over the years at the request of the fanbase in Japan but a lot of English players are not even aware they even exist because they get brushed over in patch notes and the developers only really discuss them on the live letter in casual conversation and never had them up on the presentation and since before Endwalker the liveletters were exclusively in Japanese and only the presentations got translated, few people knew about it.

I find that having a minimap makes it so I rely on it for travel, and I don't really experience the beauty of the game world because I'm so busy looking at the map. Another setting which isn't on the UI panel but improved greatly my FF14 gameplay : keybinding "target closest enemy" to a button I can use often (in my case I've keybinded it to X on keyboard). It allows me to move around in all the content and easily target the closest enemy all the time without worrying about tab anymore. No more wasted GCD uptime as I'm able to constantly move and throw an attack even when dodging mechanics. That's pretty much mandatory for melee (makes NIN and SAM amazingly fun) or healers (as it allows you to throw in a heal and then with one button resume your dps rotation) in both PvE or PvP content. Makes the game so much fun and dynamic. Just note that the only limitation in that setting is that the enemy you automcatically target must be in the camera area, so if for example you have your camera spotting the floor, the keybind won't find enemies to target even if one happens to be standing just in front of you.
