On the topic of DoTs at the end, there's a fake boss "DoT" in T7S, Allagan Venom, that ticks every 1.8s or so. Basically it does a raidwide for each player that still has the debuff
@CaetsuChaijiCh9 ай бұрын
Looking it up, it appears 2 players will be affected by it, and it does "pulsing raidwide damage". Is there a possibility that the "1.8 seconds or so" you suggest is actually because there are 2 separate 3 second timers that just seem to randomly intermingle and overlap, causing it to appear as if it is a single timer with a somewhat weird ticking interval?🤔
@Cloud70509 ай бұрын
@@CaetsuChaijiCh The T7S guides out there are not very accurate, a lot of the knowledge has been lost to time. In the second part of the last phase, the debuff applies to 4 players. I have dozens of hours of footage of the fight, so I'm able to go back and analyse the timings very closely. The raidwides happen in bursts, about 1.8s between the start of each burst. The burst hits based on how many players have the debuff, so it could be 1-4 hits of damage. It's not the debuff itself dealing single target damage, instead it seems to be used as a counter that another mech checks. Therefore group mits like reprisal, addle, feint etc also don't snapshot on these raidwides like how they would for normal DoTs.

Esteem's attributes are based on the Dark Knight stats upon summoning. As it counts as another actor, darkside buff doesn't affect him even if kept before his activation, BUT the effects of potions actually buff him if used before his summoning.
@CaetsuChaijiCh9 ай бұрын
Hmm that is quite interesting! I might have to test this particular detail with Tinctures because from prior tests, I only observed that Pets benefit from raid buffs (in real time too, so he loses the buffs when you do of course), and that technically Tinctures would work based on your stats. But I never considered that he checks your stats on summon specifically, which means it matters when you use Tincture! Thank you!
@renycilfay97739 ай бұрын
Hmm. I'm not sure if this is entirely relevant to the myth busting going on, but I don't personally find it worth it to calculate single target potency in AoE pulls. The reality is that when you use moves that do single target damage to one target out of 6, with the exception of mob packs that have one clearly high-HP mob to target with these damage fall-off or single target abilities, you will just end up killing one out of the 6 earlier and still have to make up for the lost time AoEing the other 5 targets. So a lot of the time it's a situation of "Did you do more *damage?* Yes. But did you also still slow down the run? Also yes." And I find that's particularly important to remember with the dragoon AoE calculations you did in this video. You can technically do more damage and still be slower at clearing mob fights. (Because you effectively "overkill" one mob by doing single target damage and following up with AoE on the remaining targets)
@CaetsuChaijiCh9 ай бұрын
This can sometimes be true, however it isn't uncommon for one mob to be healthier than the rest of the pack, in that it simply has more hp. You can also alleviate this by making sure to do the single target damage to different mobs to spread it out, to avoid "over killing" one mob as you suggest 😊 in other words, there are ways to make the single target damage beneficial, and sometimes it is actually quite easy. Again not entirely applicable to the doomspike thing, but in more current dungeons, it is weirdly common to have a few gigantuan mobs that can be difficult to cleave equally with the rest, and pushing some single target damage on them can be helpful 😁 Edit: but in fairness, as you said, might not be the important angle for the particular proof in the video. What I mean by that, is that since I was attempting to demonstrate that disembowel on aoe is not worth it, it is only fair to count every point of potency to give the single target attacks any advantage they can get (just to prove, that it doesn't even matter). If I was trying to prove disembowel was good on aoe, then it might make more sense to take the reverse stance and demonstrate that it still wins without the single target potency if possible (it isn't, but there it would make more sense for this angle I think! 😊)
@dabK3r9 ай бұрын

@CaetsuChaijiCh9 ай бұрын
See that also makes perfectly good sense! 😅
@Dw7freak9 ай бұрын
Maybe because Vengeance is a Warrior/Marauder ability, it is prioritized before Arm's Length, which is just a role ability. In this case, it could be similar to how shield pop in a specific order based on who placed them, as an example, DRK that used TBN on themselves and a SGE that placed Eukrasian Diagnosis and Haima on that DRK, the TBN will always break first. That's another good thing to test: Shield priority. I know that self-TBN is prioritized and Galvanize/Eukrasian Diagnosis breaks before Catalyst/Differential Diagnosis, but what about after or if TBN and other shields on another target? Since there can be as many as 10 shields with 5 party members in a normal party (TBN, Shake It Off, Nascent Flash, Eukrasian Diagnosis, Differential Diagnosis, Haima, Panhaima, Neutral Sect, Celestial Intersection, and Radiant Aegis/Arcane Crest [both are self only]. Can also add Divine Veil and Brutal Shell with the other tanks and Seraphic Veil from SCH's big fairy and Divine Benison from WHM added for 8 party members for 13 different shields that can stack). I would assume it would be TBN > Eukrasian Diagnosis 1 > ???. The reason for this is that TBN and Eukrasian Diagnosis both have secondary effects if they break and TBN has the shortest duration, so the game prioritizes it first since it would end sooner. The best way to test this is to get the weird party into synced content, have the RPR get aggro, then apply all the shields and see the order they break. I'd test RPR since Radiant Aegis could be considered an ally buff since Carby is the one that places it, though that could be another test at the same time. If the Arcane Crest pops first, then self shields would always pop first. The crit Eukrasian Diagnosis is the only part that is a variable, since Sage doesn't have a Recitation equivalent. Also, the Differential Diagnosis shield would probably function the same as SCH's Catalyst shield from crit Adlo, so that would be 2 birds with one stone. I'd also test with either SCH's Galvanize from Adlo or Succor or Sage's Eukrasian Prognosis to see how they'd order in the stack of shields since they're mutually exclusive to each other. This would also make testing Catalyst/Differential Diagnosis in the shield pop order since you can guarantee crits on the Adlo with Recitation. Haima and Panhaima are also weird in that they are a stacked buff that applies a shield by reducing the stack. Unfortunately, this is a very annoying thing to test myself since I don't have friends. For a personal guess, after whether the shield itself has an effect on break, it goes by either initial duration, shield size, or role, so shorter duration, smaller shield, or tank/healer/dps first.
@CaetsuChaijiCh9 ай бұрын
I actually have a video in the works exactly also covering the shield priority stuff. I don't cover all of them though, specifically because many of them have no particular reason to be high or low on the priority list, which means it can be extremely hard to know for sure if the order that I might discover was actually dictated by application order, remaining duration, remaining shield health, or something else. I do however cover the most important ones in demonstration! 😊 Still very good idea!

I would always get upset when i spawned him without darkside active because i was under the impression that he would deal less damage for the entire duration. Second, just a minor tidbit. Not complaining as this is just more of a personal preference: A better GCD to use to test for #4 is demolish on monk since he has the fastest GCD and demolish has a long ass wind up animation. Spam form shift and use demolish on both angles. Nevertheless, its good to know that about positional snapshots because ive had many instances where the boss would turn as im trying to land my positionals and i end up unsure if i got the damage off or not.

Here’s a dumb question related to pets and targeted buffs: how do AST cards interact with chocobos? I used to bring my chocobo with me while leveling my healer out in the open world, and to maximize astrodyne I’d give a card or two to my chocobo in case I got the right star sign but didn’t want to override the card I gave to myself. I never really paid attention to if the card actually boosted my chocobo’s damage, though. Do chocobos even have a role, and thus would benefit from +6% damage? Or would they only get the lower +3%? Or neither?

ohh, please do a myth on Earthy Star, i swear sometimes it only applies buffs when it's popped for it's effect, not when it's placed, like it should. if it wants to be placed and popped while buffs are up, it's doable, but only if coordinated a little, because it takes 10 seconds to get max potency, and most party buffs are 15, if it only cares about popping during party buffs, that's fine, and if only during placement, that's excellent.
@CaetsuChaijiCh9 ай бұрын
I believe I have tested this in prior Mythbusters episodes! To my knowledge it is one of the weirdest actions in the game because it tracks your buffs real time (just like a pet does!), but it appears it scales extremely closely to your stats, although it has been known to have its own stat line in some capacity similar to a pet... BUT it benefits from personal buffs (which a pet wouldn't!) Long story short, I am confident the answer to your question is that it checks buffs when it pops, so you should manually pop it if buffs are ending. However I will admit earthly star has always been a footnote in the other myths, so I think it might be a good idea to approach it directly in a future episode! 😊

Like when a gaze attack is about to happen, I’ve heard multiple people advise to both turn away AND click off of the enemy. Then sometimes when they fail the gaze mechanic, they’ll claim that it was the auto attack that caused them to turn towards the target. But I’m like 95% sure that’s not how auto attacks work.

My old name doesn't bother me much, so I don't mind it being in the video, in fact I found it kind of endearing to hear you use the Danish pronounciation. I hadn't thought to test if Living Shadow was effected by darkside, and simply didn't use it in my origial testing to not skew reults. Also hadn't thought to aks the question: "since Living Shadow appears to deal a fair bit more damage than you, if we assume it does't suffer the 4/5 damage multiplier you do, what base pet potency would it need to have to match our results" which I think is a pretty interesting question. I stated my test results gave me an estimated 6/5 multiplier on Living Shadow's damage. Dividing by the assumed 5/4 multiplier gives 24/25, and with the added assumption of having a built in darkside buff we get the even uglier 48/55, which indeed is pretty close to 7/8, as matches your estimates. Taking my average dammage dividend by Living Shadow's and multiplying by 7/8, the presumed darkside, and the presumed lack of tank debuff, I get about 0,9977, which is close enough to 1 that the difference can probably be attributed to random noise.

A potential thing to test in the next episode: Do gaze mechanics need to propagate their snapshot timings? By propagate, I mean get processed in succession for one player each tick. Like how player AoEs, like a tank's AoE damage or a healer's shields/regens don't all occur at once. I used to think that gaze snapshots its check at the same time for all players, like how the enemy's AoEs would. But after seeing the "dodge" flytext appear for me very late in WoD, where there's tons of players to propagate through, and after spending half a year in T7S watching the FX for gaze propagate, I think it does propagate.
@CaetsuChaijiCh9 ай бұрын
This is an interesting idea, but it can be extremely hard to demonstrate given that latency plays a factor. This is also not helped by the fact that gaze mechanics sometimes appear to snapshot at weird times in relation to when the action happens itself (although this itself might suggest that it does indeed propagate?) It is an interesting question though!
@Cloud70509 ай бұрын
Watching back the WoD, looks like the delay between the eye icon disappearing and the effects happening is just quite large since the animation is long. Multiple players appear to have been hit with gaze's effects at the same time, so maybe it normally doesn't propagate. My dodge flytext appears at around the same time, but not always in the same frame. Coils mechs are all around super jank. T7S gaze is more complex in that it also buffs enemies and stones certain adds, so maybe it operates differently under the hood but reuses the same eye icon. This can be supported by how there is no "dodge" flytext when it goes off, only the propagating SFX of rock particles.

If you need something to do. 1) Samurai's higanbana DoT. Does shifu weaponskill buff affect DoT? 2) Do you go eureka? The haste ring and earring doesn't have and secondary stat other than haste +3. Is it really better than other sync gear or il300 gear? Some people overmeld crafted il290 accessories. Blitzring price? surprise. Too lazy to test myself. lol.
@CaetsuChaijiCh9 ай бұрын
Interesting questions! 1) higanbana does not benefit from Shifu, but does benefit from Jinpu (the raw damage buff). The reason is that Shifu's buff explicitly does not include dots at all in its description. This in comparison to skill and spell speed which technically do, but just not for abilities. Another difference here is that Shifu reduces the time between auto attacks, where speed stats increase the damage of auto attacks (although I do recognize that is very counter intuitive!) 2) i do not own a blitzring, and it is a bit expensive.😂 However knowing how much +3 haste is from bozja, which I do sometimes go to, I am pretty confident blitzring is better for most jobs. The only reason why I say most, is because maybe some specific job scales so badly with speed, That it isn't actually worth it, and I didn't go and math it out! Given the price of blitzring over melding would also og course be a much cheaper alternative! Which could explain why some people choose to do that instead 🤔

@huzzahu4149 the simple answer is always use bahamut on cooldown. It is more costly to delay it, than any raid buff can make up for! 😊 In very specific encounters there is a possibility for an exception, but by default always bahamut on cooldown! 😁
@apljack9 ай бұрын
@@CaetsuChaijiCh Honestly, that is a good rule of thumb for any average encounter. Where my rotation as GNB falls in P12S Part 1 right before Limit cut, I don't use Blood Fest for my 3 carts to get out extra burst strikes. I hold it and build up to 2 carts so that I can quickly reopen with pot right after limit break and get those 3 burst strikes in the pot window at the end of my reopening burst. Granted at this point my burst is off from a lot of raid buffs as it PF everyone doing what they o, but after LC there isn't much left of Phase 1 anyhow to worry about it. XD

@CaetsuChaijiCh9 ай бұрын
That is an interesting question. I might test this, but I am like.. 99% certain that snap shotting applies here, meaning that intervention only checks whether you had the buff when it was cast, and does not check again if you put them up later 😅 That is to say, using rampart or sentinel first is probably important! 😊
@KasuAberra9 ай бұрын
I don't recall if you've ever done this one before and a bit curious about it, but if a mit applies after a snapshot but before the damage, does the mit still apply to that damage, or does the mit need to be applied before the snapshot itself?
@CaetsuChaijiCh9 ай бұрын
Excellent question! I think this would depend on the action itself 🤔 I believe the generally accepted way is to always aim for before snapshot, but there are a select few boss mechanics with such a massive delay where that might not even be possible 😅 From a quick test it seems to be possible to use mitigation after a telegraph is disappearing (which is where most snapshots happen). I also tested stepping out of the attack after that same time stamp, which didn't work. This suggests that I was able to use mitigation after the snapshot. I also attempted with reprisal, which notably did NOT work if I used it after the snapshot. So my best guess here is that personal mitigation can be applied after the snapshot, but there might be a point where the game has calculated the damage you take, and it is simply a matter of the animation finishing. Debuffs like reprisal on the other hand appear to need to be on the enemy before the snapshot, as that is when the initial damage would be calculated. I think it would be quite difficult to test this in a satisfactory way because of how hard it can be to spot the exact snap shot on a lot of things. There's also the possibility of latency 😅 Sorry, that is not a suuuper clear answer, but I do hope it helps a bit! 😊

Oh no, it was a great answer, I was curious as I've noticed myself using my mits late sometimes and have wondered if I got and use out of them. XD I will admit though I'm a BLM main and this has likely confirmed to me that assuming Addle is like Reprisal I get no use out of a slightly late Addle. But overall it was a question out of curiosity that would likely not change how anyone plays, because even with the personal mit working as long as its on before the actual damage comes out, due to latency and other possible unknown factors, it would likely be very inconsistent. Thanks for taking the time to test it out and respond! Love your Mythbusters series! ^^

Random thought on the 5 sec DOT from PvP Sage: what if it's not real 5 sec, but 5.9 sec. Since the game does acknowledge decimal seconds and tends to round down decimals in the interface to whole numbers (a 1.75 hour buff from an MGP up script for example would display in the buff timer as 1 hour, for 45 minutes), that would guarantee 2 ticks of three seconds without hitting 3 ticks? On that same note (haven't tested yet) would the mob checking for DoTs, mean that you wouldn't have the tick reapply slide (loss of DPS due to restarting of the DoT timer)? IE - If you reapply before the drop falls off, you do not loose the overall DoT damage (like some other games), because the game is not counting the amount of ticks per DoT cast starting when it's applied, but only if it has the buff up when the mob checks?
@CaetsuChaijiCh8 ай бұрын
The suggestion about sage would work, if it wasn't for the fact the tooltip itself outright says 5 seconds! 😊 Otherwise I see how it makes sense! Hmm, dots are checked every three seconds, so hypothetically, if your dot is off between two ticks, but is active when each tick happens, you still get full dot value! 😊

My friend recently picked AST back up and posed me the question "When does the damage/healing for Earthly Star snapshot" and I realised I've been playing AST all expansions and have no idea. Is it when it's first placed? Does it get re-snapshot when it switches to Giant Dominance? Or does it calculate as it's going off? Anyone know?

It tracks your buffs real time (meaning it checks when it pops), so make sure it pops while your buffs are still up 😊 it is worth noting that it is very unique in this aspect and it is totally understandable that you might not know 😊

The way you compare how vengeance and arms length work to those blue mage abilities work or rather don't work with each other makes me wonder if vengeance does or doesn't work off of the old damage model like blue mage does, though I assume that isn't the case.
@CaetsuChaijiCh8 ай бұрын
I don't quite recall the old damage model you are talking about, but whatever is causing this interaction, I guess is because the game simply doesn't allow more than 1 "retaliation" kind of effect at a time to respond. Something like that? Is that related to the old damage model? :o
@SORROWCODE8 ай бұрын
@@CaetsuChaijiCh So the way it works now for classes that aren't blue mage, is that all we really have is physical and magic, doesn't really matter if it's slashing or piercing, fire or ice, all it is is physical and magic. However, the reason why blue mage can go nova using certain spells/abilities against certain enemies/types of enemies, is because the different damage types under the umbrella types of physical and magic still work on the old damage model in which all of these types of damage actually affected enemies to varying degrees. I'll try to find the info again so I can more specifically and accurately present what I'm talking about, but that should hopefully give you the basic gist of it.

I once heard somewhere that pneuma works more like a hot, because it doesnt propagate, is its healing also affected by spell speed?
@CaetsuChaijiCh9 ай бұрын
This is an interesting question. From some initial testing on my part, it appears to do the same healing as druochole (which is absolutely not affected by speed) I believe kardia is viewed as a hot in other aspects (for example, it generates no enmity like hots also don't), so maybe it scales with speed? Since pneuma is an attack, it would activate kardia too. Maybe this is what it is about? I will write it down to maybe test more later 😊

Anyway, I think there's some weirdness still in EW, but I believe this rumor probably dates from ShB, since it was more prevalent then.
@CaetsuChaijiCh9 ай бұрын
In ShB he attacked every time you cast a spell. In EW he attacks four times, and spread those four attacks over the course of the summon. However, if he is delayed in any way he will speed up, and attack faster 😊 It is possible this claim originates from ShB 😅

@@CaetsuChaijiCh Oh yes. I don't remember when they changed it (I think it was before 6.0, but not sure), but he would also attack (or so the Balance told me at the time) on oGCDs. ANY oGCD that had a target. Meaning SMN used Addle to get in an extra Bahamut hit, along with 4 Ruin IVs (instant) and the other 4 Ruin III's (cast time), weaving their oGCDs to try and get more hits. The EW method is much...calmer, hehe. :)

I kinda wish they'd just merge skill and spell speed. The distinction only matters for, what, 3 jobs? But then again, they definitely designed the kits around that. When I go into Bozja with my haste gear on PLD, fight or flight timing gets super awkward and out of place. So I guess it's fine the way it is
@CaetsuChaijiCh9 ай бұрын
I agree! I hadn't actually considered that detail from bozja, but that makes sense too. I do think it would be easier if it was just one type of speed simply because as you said, it is so much extra for something that doesn't really matter for most jobs! 😊

One thing I'm curious about with the positionals snapshotting, is latency. I play on NA server while in EU, so I have some noticable latency, and I can frequently stand to the side or behind the enemy attacking me when I'm #1 aggro. I'm curious if the snapshotting works client-side or server-side. Could I technically move behind an enemy and use a rear-positional to full effect, despite the enemy attacking me and thus constantly looking at me?

While not about a Mechanic, maybe someone here can answer a question I got. Can FCs be Auto Disbanded? I heard that if a Master isn't online for 35 days straight it moves the Master Rank or disband the FC if there is no one else that qualifies for it. Does the later actually happen? Since we've been told for the better part of 2 years now to take frequent and maybe extended breaks, this should've wrecked quite a few small FCs but I cannot find anyone reporting that and the rules do seem quite harsh so I wonder if they actually apply

When it comes to 7th: is it known how is chocobo classified? I know you can partner with it but i wonder if it does anything. Is companion classified as pet?
@CaetsuChaijiCh9 ай бұрын
Your chocobo is an entirely separate entity with its own hp bar, and is very easily accessible compared to many other pets. After a quick trip I can inform you that the chocobo has its own unique stat line and simply scales with your level and nothing else. This means that if you change to a lower level job, then it will get less stats. But it does not matter whether you are wearing any equipment at all beyond that. The chocobo will do the same dps, have the same hp, and heal the same amount regardless. We can safely assume that any personal buffs on you will not affect the chocobo 😊 From that, I suppose it does not qualify as a "pet" but rather something unique of its own! I hope that is a satisfying answer 😊
@WikiED9 ай бұрын
@@CaetsuChaijiCh I guess my question came up from misunderstanding (or rather not thinking about the logic) of the premise as obviously the point was talking about targeting the player with buffs and pets profiting from the buffs of the owner and NOT giving buffs directly to the pets (obvious if spent a literal second to think). So let me rephrase it with proper wording as my question actually does not fit to 7th myth: Is it known if chocobo actually gets dmg buffs if a player gives them one or is it just UI but does not actually do anything, like they can be dance partners but don't actually profit from it. Assumption would be that they do but i could also see a world where if it's not a player then player buffs don't work on it. If it's not known then i guess i'd have to go test it myself, i've asked as sometimes ppl just know these things from past testings.
@CaetsuChaijiCh9 ай бұрын
@WikiED a quick addendum then: I went and tested with my chocobo and dance partner with standard finish: without it, my chocobo auto attacks do around 2200 damage. With standard finish, it is closer to 2300 on average, which suggests it works 😊

Regarding dots and hots. Where does Pyretic lie? Pyretic ticks extremely quickly under the condition that you are moving or performing another action, though it cannot interrupt spell casts. Its a debuff that does deal damage over time, but tgen...what is it actually? Is it a DoT?
@CaetsuChaijiCh9 ай бұрын
Hard to say, however to my knowledge it has a tendency to tick at very random intervals, so there is a possibility it ticks each time it observes an action, but only every x frames on movement, partly because of how the game tracks movement. But I don't know for sure, and pyretic happens so momentarily and so rarely that it would be really hard to test i feel! 😅

To my knowledge, no. The bosses simply give quite a lot of exp, and the mobs leading up to them are simply in the way nowadays given the trash mobs in a dungeon give no experience now 😅 But I haven't outright TESTED for this specifically so it could be worth a test. If you have a job that is not max level, you could test this simply by going into aurum vale, and killing the first boss leaving as many mobs in the first room alive as possible. After that, go out and re enter, and then clear the entire first room and then kill the boss. I am however extremely confident the bosses give a fixed amount of exp 😊
