The better way to beat Byblos with White Mages is to Grind to about Level 30ish and grind out a ton of elixirs in the wind shrine and just wait out his MP(This is also the strat used for Atomos, that fight is just way worse). Still mind numbingly dull and tedious but it's faster than grinding to the level Cap in World 1.

Wow, I forgot about Byblos. There are plenty of parties who get sandbagged there because Protect drags their damage under the amount he Drains. But to think that his entire moveset debilitates White Mages in particular. That's an *awful* time. Thank you for trying, and thank you for stopping.

@@sam7559 Still wonder which one will go worse between that and Thief given the other two problem child classes are out of the way with Bard and Berserker, Freelancer is decent even without learning from other classes & has excellent equipment selection (since it can equip everything IIRC including Ribbons), and Mime comes so late that it misses most of the game anyway.

FFV would be possible in a reasonable amount of time if white mages could break the elemental rods like every other mage class in the game. Still tedious, mind you, with all the additional money you would need to grind for to afford all the necessary rods, but possible.
@Xephrost_Gaming2 күн бұрын
Yeah, having rods would definitely make it doable, if a bit tight on money. Without that, white mages are just not strong enough to make this feasible.
@Starsoulklr2 күн бұрын
Oh yeah Byblos was awful for a four job fiesta where I got White Mage, Berserker and Ranger for the first three crystals. Pretty much went with one zerk and three mages keeping the party as healthy as possible.

Will we ever have any other FFIII runs? Because fighting the Big Rat without any spells just seems like too much of a pain tbh
@Xephrost_Gaming2 күн бұрын
I will probably still do more runs in FF3. It really is fun for MOST of the playthrough. But yeah, dealing with that rat in the nepto shrine is definitely gonna be an issue in non-caster runs.

Have you thought of doing ff8 with only the magics refined with L-magic refine for White Mage, T-Magic refine for Time mage, and so ?
@TheBlackSeraph16 сағат бұрын
Might be an idea to compare FF3 for DS/PSP as a comparison since the redesign is more than just changing max HPs (Cloud of Darkness has multiple attacks and three parts) and it uses an MP system rather than spell slots.
@Externica2 күн бұрын
So, in other words: FFV White Mages only is like FF3 red Mages only. Except the road block hits you like a truck way before end game and with equipment options that are just as inferior if not worse. Good riddance, that would carve away way worse at my sanity than the Red Mage FF3 run.
@Xephrost_Gaming2 күн бұрын
Yeah, I have never hit a brick wall in a run quite like Byblos. White Mages just have absolutely nothing at that point in the game to make this fight manageable.

Might be interesting if you included the Bravely Default games into the mix. These games feel like the true sucessors to the Final Fantasy turn-based games as opposed to the action rpgs that ended up overtaking the franchise. You could do actual full white mage runs as well as other similar classes as you have with these challenges. The original Bravely Default games might be hard to get recorded as they are stuck on the 3DS, but Bravely Default 2 is easily available on PC.

White mages in ff5 can't use rods
@MusicoftheDamned2 күн бұрын
@@Raziel_The_Soul_ReaverYeah, if they could Rod Smash, then they wouldn't notorious for their lack of damage and being such a slog in a same-class _FFV_ run. (See also: Thief.)
@Xephrost_Gaming2 күн бұрын
Yeah, as others have said, white mages can't break rods. FF5 only lets you use this weapons in combat to cast spells if the character can currently equip them. I only discovered this in my black mages only run when I wanted to use the Masamune to cast haste and discovered I could not.
@GaIeforce2 күн бұрын
The only "rod smashes" they could do is Staff of Light, and that is acquired through rare drops in Galuf's world, and that is _far_ after encountering Byblos. They are also, well, a rare drop. So good luck spending an eternity farming those.

I feel like FF3's endgame is balanced around Ninja, which is why it's easy enough in a normal playthrough but a slog on most single class challenge runs.

Yeah, FF3 is quite fun casually. But any sort of restriction makes the ending section an absolute slog.

@Xephrost_Gaming2 күн бұрын
White mages can't break rods. You can only use items to cast spells in FF5 if the character can actually equip the item. Since white mages can't equip rods, they also can't break them to cast spells, they don't even show up in the item menu in combat.
